Enjoying: November Beach and Small Things

November 6, 2013 By Kelle

I’m practicing restraint, and I’m going to unleash holiday cheer in a slow monitored stream. Baby Steps. But only for the next two weeks, and then I’m not promising anything. I won’t tell you that I stood in front of a six-foot Santa at Costco today and pictured what he’d look like strapped to my roof. Oh wait,  I just did.  Starbucks unleashed their red cups, so I think it’s only fair that I set free one holiday photo from the shackles of my bursting heart.

Psst.  I found my kids’ special ornaments for this year, and I love them.  They make me want to do a holiday jig.  Or at least a festive herkie like that little ornament there on the left.

 photo blog2_zps67d093a0.jpg

I am in good company though.  Brett took Lainey to Lowe’s last night to pick up a sprinkler part–a 20-minute job–and finally called me an hour later.  “Oh my God, you’ve got to see this place.  It’s like Christmas blew up in here.  You’re going to love it.”  He went on to describe the trees and the inflatable snowmen and the lights that blinked to the tune of “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” and all I could think was, “My God, what seven years of marriage will do to you.”  He’s been Christmastized, and I love it.  He even hinted around, waiting for my approval, that he really, really wanted to buy a new piece for our snow village.

“You know,” I said, “if you would have given me a snow village piece instead of an engagement ring, I totally would have said yes and you could have saved some money.”

Moving on.

I won a bet the other day, so I got to pick what we did for the evening.  No brainer: beach sunset.  Happy little things naturally unroll.

 photo beach15_zps0cd6a8f4.jpg

The family on the blanket next to us brought a boom box and played Frank Sinatra.  I should have told them how happy it made me.  I forgot.

Dash ate sand.  Like handfuls of it.

And other little things enjoyed this week:

Post sunset ice cream shop.

*****

Their magnetic connection through crib bars when he wakes up from a nap.

*****

Blue Q socks.  (Blue Q is returning as a sponsor this holiday season, and they’ve stocked their shop with new socks like these.  I love them.  And listen.  The stressful experience of the annual family Christmas photo would not have gone near as smoothly this year had I not used Blue Q’s Control Your Family Breath Spray.  Lifesaver, I tell ya.)  They’re so pretty, I don’t want to put shoes on.  Stuff the stockings with stockings this year.  They have socks with fun naughty sayings too.

 photo beach28_zpsf7875011.jpg

*****

After ballet pretzels.
She likes her snacks in little bags, and she’s very possessive of the snack bag.  Pirate’s booty ranks higher than pretzels, pretzels rank higher than popcorn. But the most prized snack bag award goes to the almighty Saltine.

 photo blog1_zps3ecbe5d2.jpg

*****

Baby Son.
Yep.  Eight months in, and I cannot not smile when I say “baby son.”  With his Chicklet teeth.  First holidays are the best, and–why yes, we have some rad plaid and bow ties set aside for the coming weeks.

 photo beach25_zps88357e9b.jpg

*****

Water trumps all baby toys.

 photo beach26_zps68715737.jpg

 photo beach27_zps48ec67d2.jpg

And a little video of a dog and her girl (pardon my shaky filming hands).

Love the mid-week burst of happiness that your posts bring! We do the ornament thing too – each of us left home with a box full of treasured ornaments when we moved into our own homes. My kids already know which ornaments are THEIRS and why each one is put on our tree.

He/she could be a stuffed robot masquerading as a real dog. :o) Seriously cute video. Absolutely felt the love (and patience) between the two. PRECIOUS.

I wanted to tell you that the first runner with DS finished the NYC marathon on Sunday. As a marathon runner, who has run NY, I can tell you that I cried for sheer happiness for this man and his running partner. It had nothing to do with the fact that he had DS. I cried because he is a runner who had a dream to finish a marathon and did it. I hope you heard about him. Remarkable. Thank you, too, for helping this 50-year old momma of three teenage girls learn to see the remarkable in everyone!

. . . “a 20-minute job–and finally called me an hour later. “Oh my God, you’ve got to see this place. It’s like Christmas blew up in here. You’re going to love it.”

OMG… I love it. I bet Lainey was loving it too!!! Adorable photos. Love the one of you and Dash. Love ~ Love the video…. cracks me up how the lil dog just hangs out in her car… and when she reads to him.

These are the things I walk away with from this post:
    1. Be more excited about the holidays. Its been a rough year and holiday cheer isn’t exactly exuding from me…
    2. Record more videos of my kids…they are precious memories.
    3. Thank a mama for inspiration…thank you, Ms. Kelle 🙂 xo

    Kelle….
My Dad is adamantly opposed to Christmas before Thanksgiving. He is such a Grinch. {Smirk, smirk!!} This, of course, only encourages us. We listen to Christmas music around here earlier and earlier every year!! But, hey!! Hallmark Channel has already been playing Christmas-themed films!! This reminds me. It is 9AM my time, on November eighth, and I am going to play me some Christmas music!! Oh. If you are a Bruce Springsteen fanatic. I highly recommend any YouTube version of “Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town”!! Yeah. I turned my Down syndrome brother into a fanatic!! He sings it word-for-word, and even does an amazing Clarence Clemons impersonation!! ;-D
I love, love, love your childrens’ ornaments!! 😉

I couldn’t comment on your most recent post, but Gripe water was the best thing for our child that had colic. 🙂

Been reading since the beginning here in Ct. Could not not comment on that video. I think that is the cutest thing that I have seen on my computer in quite some time. 2 sweeties…Nella and Latte. And the ears on that pup just sent me over the edge. Hugs to both!

Kelle, I love your blog! I started reading a few months ago but wanted to start at the beginning of the road. I have laughed and cried with you and your family! I adore your pictures and astounding words! I too have a little (will be 9 yrs old December 10th) boy who has Down Syndrome. We live not too far from you in Miami. It would be one of my wishes or an item on my Bucket List to be able to meet you and your wonderful family one day, as I think Nella and Peter would wind up being best of friends! Did I mention he also loves little girls, babies and dogs!
I love love love the video of Nella in “a Girl with her Dog”! Peter loves to see all the pictures when I am reading your blog! You are such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your lives with us all!
