It’s November 4th. You know what that means? It means Game On. Suck the Marrow 2013 has commenced. And by marrow, I mean twinkly lights.
And those who admirably picket and rally for Thanksgiving, don’t you worry. It won’t get lost in the shuffle. We hang twinkly lights for Thanksgiving too. In fact I think I’ll cook our turkey this year by the heat of twinkle bulbs because then I would have legitimate reason to buy more.
I like these last months so much, and I like them even more now that this weekend has brought a cold front and we’re experiencing the most delightful Florida weather–open windows, fluttery curtains, cardigans at night.
Before we twinkle this place out, a few photos from our Halloween. ‘Twas fun.
Clown, ring master, lion, strong man and carnie who was thrilled to pull out his greasy Bulls 3-Peat shirt for the event.
Nella was obsessed with her tail all night, twisting around to see its shadow in street lamp glow and watching it drag on the sidewalk. We finally had to tie it up.
As for trick-or-treating, Lainey took Nella’s hand and walked her up to doors while Brett and I coaxed from the end of the driveways–“It’s okay, you can do it.” She followed her sister’s lead with a quiet little “tickerteet” and a good “thank you,” and we smiled and shared one of those “aren’t our kids the cutest things in the universe?!” moments.
And after bragging to my father-in-law the other night that our kids haven’t even bothered to ask for any of their candy, he chuckled and said, “Well, Lainey showed me a secret stash she’s keeping in her wagon.” Apparently, that whole hide-stuff-from-your-parents thing has begun.
Happy holiday things to come. This blog is a nice little cellar to store the overflow that happens from November on.
Happy Monday.

Your costumes are the bomb diggity!
Oh Em Gee. I die. Fabulous costumes!!!!
Great pictures. And I can’t wait for the onslaught of holiday happiness! Let it begin!!
Brett as a carnie made me LOL!! Love the individuality and creativity of all your costumes.
That was adorable! My hubby would never dress up for Halloween.
Love all the costumes! But Dash’s is my favorite!!
I just loved this post. Very, very cute! Your children are adorable 🙂
ooh awesome!! I was in the circus as well, although I literally could not find a leotard at good will (I was an aerial artist) BUT I did find this amazing victoria secret lingeree thing for 2 dollars IN MY SIZE so I paired that with some tights, a little skirt, sparkly ballet flats. I looked…..well, kind of like a sex worker. So, I put hometeam in a little tu-tu as my dancing side kick, bought a hoola hoop to hold as a prop, and had dave paint my face elaborately. I looked like….a bizzare lady of the night. I wrapped a big silk sheet around my whole costume the whole time I handed out candy. but you know what, I tried. xoxoxo
Oh! I love your costumes. : ). You do it so great. Every year. The kids in the neighborhood decided to go trick or treating about ten minutes before 6. Jonny wore a old suit he had and took a plastic gun and said he was a russian hit man. Kaishon wore a dress he found in my closet and said he was an Amish girl. : ) They got a ton of candy.
Fabulous, just fabulous!!! The originality and cuteness is to die for. Dash and his tiny mustache will keep me smiling all day! BTW my vote….keep the bangs lol!
Beautiful photos! I love the fact that you and Brent dress up too and you all go out as a family. Special times for those little ones for sure!
So amazing. What a great family costume!!!! Nella is PRECIOUS!
Best costumes I’ve ever seen! Especially the red neck circus goer 😉
So ready for Suck the Marrow 2013!:)
You all were an adorable little circus family. Love it!
OMG… how adorable ~ right down to the wagon. HAHA…Brett cracks me up!!!
So adorable & so fun!! Bring on the twinkly lights!:)
I spit out my coffee when I read that part about Lainey’s secret stash…hilarious.
You guys are quite lovely in your circusness.
I wonder where Lainey is stashing her wrappers?? Ha ha ha!
I love this. My husband and I share the “Isn’t our son the most adorable little guy in the universe?!?” look daily!!
And I’m totally with you on the loving the last months of the year. The music, movies, smells…..everything Christmas makes me giddy.
Love. That’s how I feel about your costumes. 🙂
AMAZING costumes! How fun!
an idea- I haven’t bought twinkle lights for 8 years (I’ve been saving my stash….hoping they don’t break) because I just can’t support the working conditions in Chinese light factories- maybe one of your readers knows alternatives- or will open a fair trade factory somewhere…

We were a circus family 2 years ago but we had a trapeze artist (6 year old girl), young clown (4 year old girl), bear (1 1/2 year old boy), animal trainer (me), and a male ringmaster (my husband)! Such fun!
This time of year is my favorite in life and on your blog! Our new little is due in March, and that has prompted a whole host of holiday spirit in me this year…not that it wasn’t there before. I want to cherish this season with my four bigs!!
Just wonderful. X
this is such a fun post. I love the costumes!!!
Those costumes are beyond perfect! You all look so amazing. LOVE. Love. LOVE. Love. LOVE!!!!! Such a sweet and lovely family you are.
Oh my gosh, Lainey and her candy stash.
I keep buying little Christmas things at Target. I mean, I’m really going for soap and stuff, I just HAPPEN to notice Santa hands with sequins begging to go home with me in the dollar section 🙂
I loved all the costumes you came up with, but somehow, Nella as the lion just creates this special place in my heart. You write so beautifully and the little details, like the picture of her tail and the story behind make it seem like I “tickerteeted” with you all. Love it!
Girl, you got it going on !!! You are some super mom, and have “the know” !! Might i add, you have one special man, husband, dad ……and the rest of the world drools ! ! !
I love when families go as one cohesive costume! Yours are adorable and perfect to a tee! Our daughter was snow white and we were both dwarves (bashful and dopey to be exact :D)

OMG!!! I know exactly what you mean….we had those “aren’t our kids the cutest?” moments too! I tried to video at almost every house, but it got too dark. I will try my hardest to never ever forget Nora’s reaction, and the boys’ reaction to her….so proud of them 🙂
Oh I love love the costumes!! Nicely done. I am SO happy that all 3 of my at-home kids still trick-or-treated this year. There’s always that moment in junior high when they’re not sure if it’s still cool, but here in our small town you basically do it all through high school and I love it – watching them run from house to house, disappearing with their friends and knowing they’re okay. All of the adults milling around downtown. 🙂 No more homemade costumes for us, now they dig through the dress-up box and find something a few hours before. And yes, my youngest are nearly 15 and we still have a dress-up box. I hope we always have one. Thanks for the peek into your beautiful Halloween, now bring on the twinkly lights!
Kelle,
It is so wonderful that you continue to share your life and you family with us. You have a beautiful family and a fun searching and loving soul.
I just wanted to tell you that it is NATIONAL DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS WEEK IN CANADA. It is on right now and in Toronto, Canada they have lit the CN TOWER ( think Seattle needle) up blue in honour of this week
Have a great rest of the week

Costumes are amazing! I love how you always make everything look magical!! 🙂

EEK! Adorableness!!! Now THATS the way to do halloween!!
Let the twinkle light extravaganza begin!
Aw, beautiful pictures! Looks like a fun Halloween! Cutest kids!!
I havent ever used this word before, but your costumes merit it: AMAZEBALLS! Oh my gosh. I just hope I’m half as cool as mom as you and my kids are half as great someday. You guys are just the coolest and the cutest!!! <3
-Lots of love from CT!
How fun!! I love the costumes 🙂

I know this is so random! BUT I’m going to do circus theme Halloween costumes for my 3 babes. this blog post came to mind! You wouldn’t happen to have any of that still that you would want to sell? Any props or costumes?! Is so please email me! 🙂 tricia_spitzer@yahoo.com
i remembered you did this theme from way back when! Where did you find the little strongest man muscles?!?!?!?
I made them with a long sleeve onesie I died skin color and then pushed some cotton batting in the arms to make them puff up.
