Why hello there, Weekend.
Today, during Nella’s nap, I forgot to turn the monitor on. I was only a closed door and a living room away, but it was enough to induce that piercing pang of guilt when I finally realized she was awake and had been crying for some time. I’m okay with crying, really. I’ve graduated from the parent who impulsively leaps from chairs in outrageous attempts to pacify the slightest whimpers, but today it hit me differently. I couldn’t get to her fast enough. I wanted to save her–needed to save her. To comfort her and feel the sweet victory that comes from watching her shoulders settle when she saw me. And so I ran, knocking into the coffee table, slipping a bit on a tile square where an ice cube had fallen and melted. I ran to the bedroom, hollering “Mama’s coming, Baby!” while I sprinted. And when I got there? Well, it was beautiful. One of those motherhood rites of passage, a moment of which we’re all entitled.
Across the edge of the crib her tiny fingers were hooked, and a sweet head peeked over–just the top half. She stretched up on tippy toes, apparent by the way she bobbed a little higher after I walked in. Her inhalations were loud and drawn-out–necessary intermissions from her dramatic wails–and her cheeks were red and tear-stained, her hair sweaty and swept to the side. But when she saw me, her eyes squinted into a deep, relieved smile. She knew I was there to rescue her and so her laborious cry stopped mid-breath and transformed to a chuckle. An I’m-so-glad-you’re-here chuckle. Up, up went her arms, familiarly reaching for what she knew was to come. The Scoop and Embrace. Kind of like the Bend and Snap but way better. I pulled her close to me and she thanked me, burrowing her head into my chest, locking her arms around my neck. She rested her head calmy on my shoulder for a good seven seconds or so before she finally pulled her head back, locked her gaze with mine and smiled again. Wider and softer. Oh, it was a moment.
It’s so great to let your kids work things out themselves. But sometimes? Sometimes it just feels good to rescue them.
*****
We’ve spent the last couple days trying to find as many opportunities as we can to miserably face the heat. Like we create ways to make hot even hotter. Quilt tents, erected in the thick of the heat and endured much more peaceably by two kids who don’t seem to mind.

It was this or her real ladybug tent, and seeing as there’s only a small window and a zipper gap for breath in the real tent, we figured the open-air blanket tent was the way to go. She begged for a real fire, but it was 95 degrees in the middle of a June Florida drought and we were surrounded by dry sticks and a parched pine needle blanket. A fake fire would do. At least the marshmallows were real.
******
Today was Dot’s birthday, and Lainey wanted to buy her a shirt. She’s very into birthdays now, and there’s nothing that makes me happier than watching my girl make efforts to make other people happy. She cried hard tonight after Dot left when she realized we didn’t sing to her. Everyone should be sung to on their birthdays; yes this is true.
We did take Dot to the mall today though, so Lainey could pick out a shirt for her. We don’t go to the mall very often, so when we do I kind of feel like I have to get in the mall character. Like, for reals, I totes caught Gina who works at the Pretzel Palace leave her kiosk without supervision and walk down to Foot Locker to hit on Danny, the assistant manager, and then I saw them like super making out in front of Orange Julius later. Swear, OMG, totally.
Okay, so we did do the Food Court. And Panda Express.
And maybe I sprayed one too many perfume samples at the Dillards counter. But the best part?
Stairway to Heaven. Also known as…the escalator.
It was the most thrilling part of Lainey’s day. To her, it’s Six Flags theme park. She gets all nervous before we hop on, gripping my hand tighter and carefully eyeing the stair movement, waiting for the perfect time to board–like counting jump rope skips before springing in to a game of double dutch. Once we’re on, she smiles, relieved for all of about five seconds before she starts planning the dismount. When she lands it? It’s victory. And then “Can we do it again?”
The escalator excitement was closely rivaled today by our mall’s new carousel.
And a yellow punch ball.
Who knew malls were so much fun? For the record, I worked at one so I can legitimately make mall jokes. And yes, I gained six pounds from cinnamon sugar pretzel lunch breaks at Auntie Ann’s, so there.
Once we hit JCPenny, Lainey went straight to a rack, pulled a shirt off, walked it over to Dot and, I kid you not, said “Hey look, it’s your color.” And it was. So we bought that very shirt with a “Happy Birthday, Dot. Hope you like it.”
Fun Friday times, Baby.

Thank you for the June challenges you’ve been sharing. I’ve been clicking into the June Challenge Flickr site and enjoying your inspiring words and photos. There have been so many times I’ve made lists in my head and declared great intentions, but it feels good to follow through and make it fun by sharing the challenge and adding a little accountability into the mix.
A few of your challenges:
There’s many more at the June Challenge photostream, and you can share yours there as well. More to be featured on the blog! Thank you for sharing.

Finally, two matters of business.
The Elisalou bag giveaway winner (and drawing from Lainey) is Comment #449, Ginger: I really was wondering when you’d get around to writing about the saddle shoes! SOLD on the bagandkiddrawing combo.
Congratulations, Ginger. Please e-mail your info to kellehamptonblog@comcast.net so I can begin planning my trip to the post office.

And drum roll please for the coolest barrettes Lainey’s currently obsessed with. Our new sponsor, Polkadot Posies, offers a fantastic selection of reasonably priced accessories which happen to include these unique novelty clippies.
Deciding between sweet fairy or little mermaid barrette is now a morning event, and convincing Lainey to let me do her hair is a much easier task indeed when it involves these adorable clips.
Check out the other fine accessories at Polkadot Posies, and use Code “kelleh10” for 10% off your order until June 24. A comment will be randomly selected from this post to win a free hat and flower, winner’s choice.
Happy Father’s Day to all the men we love. Have a great weekend!

Love the pic of Nella on the steps- she looks so big!
Good decision on the fake fire!! I thought we’d get some serious storms again tonight like we did on Wednesday – but it seems we’re still waiting on the summer storms (that I’m so looking forward to!)
It is funny how mall-rats have their own lingo, and how pretzels do become a substantial meal while working there!! I worked at a kiosk in the Danbury Fair Mall (for my mom, with my sister and 2 best friends) for two holiday seasons and it’s amazing how fast that way of life can take over!!
And I agree with Lainey – everyone needs to be sung to on their birthday (desperate attempt of a normal birthday story here http://falling-apart-nicely.blogspot.com/2011/06/celebrating-6th-anniversary-of-my-21st.html )
Happy Weekend Hamptons!!
~Beth
Am I only #2 to comment?! Whoa! There’s a slim chance my family and I will be moving to FL. Scared to death! Hubby’s job is a changin’…only time will tell.
Your posts are always just amazing! Haha and I live your adventures at the mall, isn’t it hilarious what kids day sometimes “this is your color” and those clips are absolutely adorable!
I just want you to know, my husband is not at all enthused by my blog reading- but one day, as I was reading your blog, he stopped and said, “Those are really good photos!” I agreed. 🙂
As yes roasting marshmallows…we introduced that to my girls this week, however we had a proper fire pit so we could actually make them gooey and melty 🙂 Nella. Is. So. Cute. Can I steal her please?
love your post!!
Love this post – just like all the rest! I actually dropped by, to see if I could figure out how you make those templates – with a photo – and a solid color beside them – or sometimes 2 photos……….and I forgot to really check your technique – because as always, I got caught up in the beauty of those 2 little girls of yours! Love Nella with her Carousel tickets – and such a little fashionista – “it’s your colour”!………How cool is she? Loved the sequence of Nella with her blocks – and the “O”, when she knocks her little stack over! Too cute!
Happy Weekend – and Happy Fathers’ Day to your house! Dads are to be treasured – Mine lived a long, wonderful, blessed life – he’s been gone 19 years now – and I still miss his tiny, wise self, at least a dozen times a week!
Thanks for sharing your weekend with us………..Rosemary
Love it all…especially the last picture! Happy Weekend to you!
Escalators are the best fun! 🙂
Im telling u Lainey is lookin more like u everyday!! So….I totally witnessed a Mall Love triangle today too!
oh my goodness the barrets are gorgeous!!! and i am jealous it is so warm- not yet summer ( or really sping) up here in vancouver yet ( and NO i did not go downton on wed night!!!)
That’s an adventure, for sure, that escalator ride!!
Seeing Lainey makes me remember my own childhood feeling.
Oh, but the american malls are to die for! Really. There’s no comparison. Scandinavian malls aren’t even in the contest.
How I love the pic of the three of you!
Happy weekend <3
Long time reader, first time commenter. Love, love, love your sweet family. Very beautiful, indeed.
This comment has been removed by the author.
love your sweet, little quilt tent! makes me want to make my own.
Soon our choir is going to descend on the local mall and do a Flash Mob. I am so excited, I can’t wait!!! But shsssshhhhhhh- it’s a secret!
I haven’t been around much since the twins, but geez…Nella is getting so big. Both girls are beautiful and growing so fast!
I feel the same way if I forget to turn the monitor on or realize I don’t have it turned up!
Beautiful pictures as always 🙂
Oh…what a sweetie pie Lainey is…and “just her color” too! Nella looks so much like a big girl on the steps! Enjoy your weekend!
Hugs!
You never cease to inspire me and encourage me to be a better mom…it’s amazing what a simple story about your day can do to give me perspective. I’ve been reading here for a while now, but just wanted to say thanks for the beautiful words and pictures!! Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
Oh, I’m gonna start a mid-month June challenge, and then a July challenge. Thanks for the inspiration! This new mama’s gonna let some wind blow in our hair all while we laugh ourselves to tears! I’ll let the universe figure out the how & I’ll focus on the wow!
Oh those hair bows, so darn cute! My baby Milanija just turned 1 on monday & has so much hair, those would be great!
Ok…so the time difference between Florida and Switzerland is working in my favour. I don’t think I have ever had such a low number in the comments section! Small victory;-) Thought of you this morning and dragged my tired self out of bed to run again.
Will it ever feel good? Happy Weekend to sunny Florida (late at night) from a rainy Switzerland (early in the morning).
I would have ran too!
“You can never hug and kiss your child(ren) too much….They need to know you love them emotionally and physically”
Have a wonderful weekend Kelle~

Absolutely love the picture of Nella with the spoon in her mouth at the food court! What gorgeous eyes!! Not to mention sweet little fashionista Lainey! Nice to see you are enjoying your summer!!
May your weekend include sun, surf and smiles. Happy Father’s Day.
The fake fire with real marshmallows. Heat usually isn’t the issue in MN, but Snow and Rain are, so I’ll be keeping that one in mind!
Love the Organza flowers on Polkadot Posies.
Happy Weekend!
Lainey is so sweet and thoughtful! Amazing job mama 🙂 and my gosh Nella in jean shorts and the purple strips ‘its her colou’ and she looks so grown up!
It’s lovely that Lainey is already so thoughtful of others. Nella’s eyelashes are so long! So envious. You even make a mall visit sound and look like fun!
You really really make me want to have babies. I can’t believe how perfect and charming your family looks. Can things really be so amazing all the time? I’m so happy for you.
x
Both girls are getting so big!
I challenge myself to do IBI therapy with my son everyday.
I also love going into my little boy’s room and seeing his face light up and arms reach up out of the crib for me…..the best feeling! Happy weekend:))
Holy Moly, those barrettes are adorable.
And, the fake fire with real marshmellows was such a smart idea!
Have a great weekend
Love the “oh” capture with the blocks! Lainey’s picture at the bottom is so sweet. And Nella is growing like a weed. She’s looking like a big girl.
I love the “this is your colour” statement 😀 a see a future sales job in L’s life <3
and the escalators can be very very fun! My son is 14 months, and when I take the stroller on the escalator (with him in of course) he laughs and bounces up and down the way we would on a rollercoaster.. the little things that make them smile 🙂
Love your blog Kelle! Amazing photos, and amazing little pieces of your life you share with us!
Maria

I feel the same way about my babies, especially my youngest. I know he is going to be my last baby so every cry and every time he lets me comfort him is cherished 🙂 There is this distinct happiness in knowing you are needed and you are the only one that can fill that void.
BEAUTIFUL, beautiful family, Kelle
You ARE blessed

Um, Ice cream cones and ballet slippers in my baby girl’s hair?! How could I not order these bows?! I did, like, oh maybe 2 hours ago and it’s already shipped! If anybody’s on the fence about ordering from the new sponsor, jump off and order. Seriously adorable and so nicely priced.
Another precious blog, Kelle…my 5 year old son calls this the “bird in a bombcage” blog with the “2 cutie pie girls”. I told him there are 3 counting their Mama. He agreed. 🙂
Have a wonderful Father’s Day weekend with your fam!
Your faux camping photos are too cute! We have had many many faux camping adventures, and I’m happy to say we just got back back from our first real camping trip. I think the campfire smell is permanently absorbed in our hair and skin, and it feels good.
When did Nella get to be so big? And when did Lainey sprout those long legs? They both suddenly look much taller. They are both so sweet.
I’m right there with ya girl. I love rescuing my girl. There’s nothing like it & that’s what moms do, we rescue. Just knowing they feel secure again & everything is right with their world – makes me smile!
I LOVE my new shirts and so did everyone at my bday dinner where I had to wear a sombrero while everyone sang Happy Birthday 🙂 So thank you to my best friend Lainey being with you was the best part of my birthday…I love you all!!!
You talking about rescuing Nella got me all teary eyed this morning. I know the feeling so well, and I am afraid of the days when my kids no longer want me to scoop them up and make everything better for them, or worse, the days I Can’t make everything better for them.
Love the little clips, I want to head over and buy a few, but from the looks of it I won’t be able to choose.
Your girls are so adorable. What a sweet Momma you are. Love the mall story. 🙂
Crystal
Wow! These are adorable! Love the little rose in Nella’s hair. BTW, I had a dream about her and I got to hold her. I was so disappointed when I woke up and found out it wasn’t real 🙁
~Irene
Oh I hate the forgot to turn the monitor on feeling. Ive done that more than once 😐 I think we are planning a mall trip today but with the boy it makes me scared. He’s so rotten lately!
My Kaish still loves the escalator even though he is 11. When he was little we would ride up and down many times : )
Okay, so Samantha’s 5 now, and I still can’t function without having the monitor on, so loud that I can hear her breathe when she’s sleeping.
Escalators are better than amusement park rides any day!
The fake fire is riot! And please tell me where you found Nella’s pink sandals, in the beginning pictures. Love those!
Stay cool!
Beth in CT
I loved your mall post! My daughter turned 5 this week and she insisted on having a party at the mall! It was a day with her 3 BFFs. We did pedicures, photo booth, mall train (no caroseul at our mall!), a trip to the candy store and then cupcakes on our blanket smack in the middle of the hallway. Little girls + the mall = love 😉
I just love how you capture everyday moments and make them beautiful – both in words and in pictures. (That Little Mermaid clip is the cutest thing ever!)
Nella looks like she has grown over night…gorgeous post and pics as always. Loving the tent camping with fake fires…and I love jamming out to Weezer. I want an island in the sun 🙂
~CC
If I win, do I get a drawing too??
And now I really want an Auntie Anne’s pretzel. You can eat those for breakfast right?
Maura
I love the photobooth pictures – I HAVE to do that with my girls! So sweet!!
Happy Father’s Day to Brett. He seems like such a good, loving, active father. Now off to do family stuff!!!
Ok your mall lingo was hilarious!!! I even read it to my hubby=) I love that everything you do with your girls seems like a grand adventure…and to a 4yr old going to the mall is! I get so caught up in the get in and get out that I forget that there is fun to be had in everyday moments. Thanks for the inspiration!! Heather
I adore the pics of Nella with the blocks and how expression matches what she’s is doing with the blocks in each picture. Oh, and Lainey’s barretts, my little lady would be in heaven with those princess ones!
You have such Beautiful Girls!!!!!! Yes, mall’s can be pretty fun with the kids! Having four girls myself, when making our mall trips, it ends up being an all day event!!! Between the caroseul rides, the monsterous amounts of candy dealers being on just about every corner and they want to try about every unusual looking piece of candy, before I know it I have spent almost $30 on the stuff, to the pretzel bites with icee joint on the corner, makes an all day trip to the mall for us! Not to mention finally the clothes shopping…… Tiring, but all so much fun to see my girls enjoy themselves until their little hearts content!!!!!! Hope you and your lovely family have a Amazing Fathers Day weekend!!!!!!!

You made that trip to the mall sound almost dreamy!
I love your way with words! For a fleeting moment I felt like I was rushing to rescue Nella! Love the flower skirt Lainey wore to the mall.
Your moment with Nella was priceless…If only they could happen just a litte more often:) There is nothing better! Also LOVE the hair clips.
We love our mall carousel! My little one loves how she can ride all by herself now. Too cute!!
Nella is looking so much like her sister these days! Sweetness:)
I love your skirt in the last picture. Those clips make life easier don’t they I love them!!!!!! Hope your family has a wonderful Father’s Day can’t wait to hear all about it.
Happy Summer! Just got back from TN and boy was it 95+ and humid. I hear ya on the heat. Stay cool! Keep eating those yummy summer popsicles-perfect for hot sticky days.
Those clips are adorable. My baby’s hair is just getting thick enough to put a clip in and I am so excited!
You have such a knack for making mundane activities turn magical! Love the newest hair clips.
Love the blanket tent. It looks like so much fun!
Love the blanket tent. It looks like so much fun!
I totally relate to leaving the monitor off. I did it just the other day and felt so bad but lucky for me, my girl was busy playing patty cake when I went in.
That last photo is precious!
I love the, “it’s your color” part 🙂
great song, great post. 🙂
So sweet… Love the hair clips! I would totally wear those myself! 😉
Shaylee
I dig the fake fire! And an Auntie Ann’s pretzel sounds good right about now…
Those mommy moments of guilt that really are not detrimental situations, but they leave a pitted feeling in our stomachs and a need for rescue… yeah, I have had many, many of those. I know exactly what you’re talking about.
Beautiful photos as always! Love the photo booth shots. Is Nella crying in the first one? She cheers up so quickly. Am I weird because I think there is something so sweet about crying baby pictures?
Have a beautiful weekend!
I love the tent and the fake fire. Kids are creative spirits! Have a wonderful weekend!
I totally had that “save the baby” moment the other night when we left him with a babysitter for the first time. he did fine of course, but woke up when we got home. I picked him up and it took him point five seconds to fall back sound asleep on my shoulder. Just needed to hear and feel mama. Thats what being a mama is all about, its great.
LOVE the tent photos. Sweet girlies! I think all Mom’s have the “save baby” moment. Just shows how much we adore them. Happy weekend!
Oh how I remember the thrill of the escalator! Up and down, up and down, until I couldn’t take it anymore. I can’t believe how grown up Nella is looking…turning into a girl right before our eyes, the baby is slowly disappearing!
Just adore your pictures and life story you share! Love those cute little clips as well.
Can’t wait to hear about your Father’s Day. And by the way, this June Challenge is keeping me on track with my summer goals!
What a fun post! I love the fake fire! Have a great weekend!
Birthdays are one of my favorite things too. I always decorate the birthday person’s door (bedroom or front door if i’m feeling bold) with balloons and streamers and Happy Birthday signs.
And I must say my 18 month old has gotten so used to me reading this blog she appropriately points out Nella (pronounced eya) and “Eya’s Dada” lol
Can’t get enough of those rescues either. I try to hold out – especially in the middle of the night – but the rewards are so great, I find I can’t wait! xo
Escalators are my kids favorite things too! They like walking in the opposite direction they r going though and cause me stress about gettin in trouble by the mall cops!
love teh little trio of block photos! my little would love a cute clippie for her hair. otherwise she looks like a sheepdog!
Not sure what it is about Nella in the sleeveless shirt that makes her look so grown up. She is adorable. Love Lainey’s ice cream cone. We are super excited to celebrate our daddy this weekend although he is on some crazy cleaning kick this morning and Momma loves that!
love your mocassins! they remind me of a childhood vacation to gatlinburg, tn where i bought a white pair that i adored!
I can’t believe how big Nella is getting!
Happy Birthday Dot! Your music made my smile on a Saturday morning – thanks!
Happy Weekend!
Totally agree with you on that “rescue mission” 🙂
Nella is the prettiest girl ever. I love those big blue eyes and wispy blonde hair. Y’all create some beauty in the world!
My little girl has the most tender head and it is a chore, every day, to brush and “decorate”- but it is a must (or it will be worse tomorrow!) I always dreamed of having a little girl when I was little- so I could do her hair. It’s not exactly what I imagined, but it’s still a very special time for me… Hopefully she’ll come to think so as time goes on. Maybe barrets will help 🙂
you make me miss those precious baby moments. enjoy them kelle they go away so so fast. we just did the photobooth at the mall and our pictures turned out so dark. bummer!
those barretts are really cute. people are so creative:) happy weekend to ya.
I enjoy reading your post!
Your daughters are very beautiful!
Happy Father’s Day to your husband!
http://www.momfashionworld.com/
I know you like Brandi Carlile, so here is Brandi Carlile and Forever Young.
If she is ever in Florida, you should definitely take the trip to make a concert. Live music at its best!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Awi_KWs1o4
I say this time and time again. Your life is beautiful. I would love to come and stay with you for a week or so and take this love in. My heart is filled with happiness when I read your posts.
Dot and I share a birthday! Happy Day to her!!
Can I just tell you how much I LOVE that you talk about those awesome mom moments?! I feel like people don’t talk about those little things enough and you do it so beautifully. Those are some of the sweetest times of my life!
Love those princess hair clips! My daughter would love those!
I happen to love the scoop and embrace move too! Adorable pictures-as always!
So Cute! Loved the post!
What a great take on hair clips!
I love the difficult choices of childhood…and oh, how you can miss those simpler times.
Happy Weekend!
I love reading your blog! I have seen Nella in those adorable blue overalls a few times now, and I am in love with them. Can you tell me where they are from?
My boyfriend’s youngest daughter was about Nella’s age when I first met her last year. It was such a momentous time for me, to be welcomed into a world he cautiously shared with me. And that little girl along with his older daughter have been one of the best thing to happen to me. Seeing Nella’s smiling face reminds of those moments last year in my life. Happy summer!!
Oh, those clips are just too cute! I don’t know if I could ever decide on just one to order.
And that sweet moment at nap time.. I have had a few of those. Except their nanny moments, but still. I love how the little ones always hesitate for just a second… like “hold on, this is not my mom.. but hey she will rescue me anyways.” It’s just too precious.
Have a wonderful weekend!
I try to avoid the mall. Yuck! I’m glad to know my kids aren’t the only ones infatuated with the escalator. My son approaches slowly while my daughter barrels on. When we get off they beg for me. If I tell them no then they ask to ride in the glass elevator. Crazy kids!
I love this post! So many of the different points you made, I connected with. You are such a beautiful writer, your descriptions of things are so clear that I can picture exactly what you are saying in my mind. I especially liked the part about the escalator. I did the exact same thing when I was a kid, “like counting jump rope skips before springing in to a game of double dutch.” Exactly! I remember my head and shoulders would move back and forth with the movement of the stairs and then I would jump on when I was ready. But sometimes 4 or 5 stairs would pass before I would feel safe enough or ready enough to make the leap (I found it all kinda scarey). My mom would get so impatient. I’ve often wondered if either of my kids would do the same thing, but they are both braver than I was, they just immediately jump right on, with no qualms at all.
Wherever did you find the adorable blue dotted romper with green buttons that Nella is wearing in the block photos? It is so cute!
Your girls are so cute:) And I love the clips! My girl has just recently grown enough hair to wear clips and just this past week has started to leave them in too!
Everyone DOES deserve to be sung to on their birthday! We are eagerly anticipating the birth of our daughter in a couple months, and those hair clips are so cute!! 🙂
My daughter would love to get together with Lainey for playtime in the tent!
couldn’t agree more on the heart-fullness that comes from being the “rescuer” …ahhh, happy sigh..
I always feel so warm and happy looking at your photos and reading the stories about your life with your daughters. I bet lots of people say this, but your girls remind me sooo much of mine (ages 1 and 2). We even call my youngest “Nella” for short sometimes (her name is Penelope).
You wrote the other day about the hundreds of daily mental snapshots a mother takes of magical moments with her children. I do that myself (waaay more often than I actually grab a camera). And when I’m visiting your blog, the love I can see in the pictures you share of your life makes me smile and appreciate even more the love in my own life. Thank you!
My girls would love the clips as well!!
I love those Momma Hero moments!! Have a happy weekend Hamptons 🙂
Will you adopt me??!?
We are having quite a heat wave here in NY as well. We escaped to the mall this afternoon!
Love your “rescue” of Nella. There’s nothing like making it all better by simply entering the room. As long as I’m still able to fix all of their problems that way I’m more than happy to rush in and do it – even if it means slipping on some ice cubes along the way, haha.
Oh! Monitor panic attacks….just had one minutes before getting on here. By the time I remembered to turn it on, she was in a full blown “poop attack.” Since she doesn’t go often, she is scared to death when it does come 🙁 She clenches her chest with both hands, screaming, sweating, looking at me like, ‘finally, you’re here to save me’….saddest sites and sounds, my heart can barely handle it!
How appropriate that Lainey got a blonde pig-tailed cowgirl in her kids meal!!!!! (I’m assuming 🙂
Loves,
Kelly
Thank you for the tent idea. Our son has been begging for a campout, and I’d love to do a tent outside, but the big one is too hot. I have a feeling a sheet tent is in our future for this week…. We usually put a sheet over the dining room table and camp there. It’s great for those snowy–okay, maybe for you, super-hot–days. 🙂
I love the picture of Laney’s feet in the pine needles…I miss the pines 🙁 Living in the desert makes me miss the weirdest things! Love the clips, we are slowly building a large bow collection!!
Loving the June challenge! I’m making art of some kind every day (painting, embroidery, writing, baking, what have you) and it’s been a blast!
you’re such a fun, great mommy to those girls!!! love your adventures!
Did I see a block “oh” in there?
Now I’m kinda hoping my baby would wake up and cry so I can scoop her up and rescue her!
I enjoy reading your blog and wish I was as creative!!! You must tell me where you found those mom/daughter moccassins! They are to die for!!!
Carrie
You do such a great job of playing pretend with your kids. I get so many ideas from your blog like the cute quilt-a-tent; I love the fake fire! Thanks for sharing.
I love your way with words and love the photos…We are experiencing big changes here…moving to Richmond, VA from Wilmington, DE. I can accurately say, I feel like you are a friend “moving” with me. I enjoy watching the girls grow and am impressed with Nella and what a big girl she is! I hope that my Nicholas and Jacob can meet Nella and Lainey someday.
adorable clippies!
love your post! Love all the little moments as a mom that I truly cherish, like the smile that you know is just for you….I like to rescue sometimes too 🙂
love, love, love the clippies and love, love love Polkadot Posies – they are great!!! Everything is $3 or LESS
Is Nella making an “oh” face as she topples her blocks? So cute!
I dread escalators. To me they are just a germy mess. I cannot hold onto one. One time I saw a guy pick his behind and put his hand on the railing of the escalator. I was done. Glad you just embrace it.
I’ve been buying hair accessories for months.. years. When my girl finally gets enough hair (she’s 18 months with about 3 strands), I’m going to put 10 in her hair, all at once!
My 3.5 year old twins love the escalator too. Of course if it’s just me with both of them at the mall trying to take a trip on one, it generally starts and ends with a disaster and/or meltdown. There is something about getting on that is terrifying and yet thrilling to little ones! And my diva would love one of those flowers!
First I’m LOVING those clips so please please PLEASE pick me!! :0) I hope that wasn’t too in your face. Haha!!
I know exactly what you mean when you say that sometimes we like to rescue our kiddo. My son has woken up the past couple of nights crying. I think he loses his pacifier and is upset he can’t find it. My husband says to leave him, meanwhile I’m ready to take off running!! I love those middle of the night snuggles!!!!

Just so you know, you’re blog makes me so happy. Thank you, for being the amazing woman that you are!
i never told you … because um … the moment ended abruptly with the babes crying from his bed … but i got to drink a HOT (seriously?) cup of coffee and read 2 kelle posts the other morning. and yes. it was like 5 am. but still. ’twas the best part of my week.

Super excited to check out the photo stream, and I’m loving Nella’s pink shoes.
I love the bee clip to cute. Looks like Nella is good at stacking those blocks. I couldn’t even do that at her age.lol keep up the good work with her!!!
I loved the fake fire shot!! What a fun idea!!
great post. I love these hair clips. Do you think 32 is too old to wear them? lol
Happy Weekend!
First of all I would like to say I love your blog and read it every day. However, now that there is music added to your blog I have stopped viewing it so often. Not because the music is bad, because it isn’t, but because I can’t sneak a peak at your blog anymore. I can’t sneak a peak at work or everybody turns around wondering what I’m doing. At home the kids always wonder what I’m doing if suddenly music is pouring from my laptop, or my husband starts asking what I’m doing. So in order to look at your blog I first switch off the sound, which is a hassle. So now I no longer look at your blog as much anymore, which I find quite sad really. I wish you would reconsider putting music to your blog. I also feel that the music disturbs the reading process. But maybe it’s just me who doesn’t like music to a blog?
Anyway, keep up the good work, a blog with wonderful pictures of your beautiful children and great writing and positive outlook on life!

Love Polkadot Posies! Here’s hoping I win! 🙂
And that pic of Nella on the front porch is to die for. Her smile is absolutely precious.
Love the hair clips! Beautiful post as usual!
I drove to Tampa last weekend to visit my brother and, even though we’ve never met and I have no idea where in Florida you live, I found myself thinking of you. I love your photos and your take on life. Thanks for sharing.
Love the Scoop and Embrace, one of those Mommy superpowers that feels simply fantastic. And the melt of a little child into your body after the initial scoop…divine. My littlest little will be one in a week and as she is my last, I am trying to etch all those divine mommy moments into my DNA so they are never forgotten.
I love the clips and I LOVE your pictures. I’m new to your blog…do you ever give tips or tutorials on photography?

Fake fire: priceless!

Very creative touch with the fake fire. It rocks! BTW-totally love the clippies! I went to their website…everything is adorable!
Love the father’s day post! Perhaps my almost 3 year old would let me do her hair with those clips!
Love the picture with the blocks. My daughter loves to knock her blocks down with her feet…maybe she’ll play soccer some day. Who knows? The clips are super cute and I’m going to check the site out now. Thanks!
Those clippies are ADORABLE! And oh my goodness what reasonable prices! I see an order for my girl in the very near future! 🙂
Love the fake fire! What fun you have with your girls… It makes me look forward to my Lainey growing older and all of the adventures we will have!
Loved the ‘ode to the mall’. I too worked in the mall in high school…those were the days.
mmmm…mall pretzels! Happy Friday! 🙂
Who’s obsessed with clippies? THIS GUY! I adore the whimsy they add to my lil’ one’s hair, and I’ve been tempted more than once to sport them myself. What else do I adore? Your blog!
I love the homemade tent and fake fire. I’m always wanting to do new and fun things with my kids…this will be fun! Also, the clippies are so adorable. I will have to order some for my little girl.

Your adventures with your girls puts a smile on my face!
Is it too late to try and win one of those cute barrettes? How adorable!!
Kelle, It doesn’t surprise me that Nella knew her Mamma would be there to give her a shoulder to snuggle into. This is when we know how much our precious ones depend on us and need us. I just loved the fake fire for the marshmellows and the quilt tent. Your daughters are going to have such awesome memories. One last thing the pics of Nella setting on the step is Priceless. She is getting so big.
Nella reminds me so much of my Sam…especially the “oh”. Love the fake campfire.
Loving the barretts. Anxiously awaiting our first grandbaby…any day…don’t know what it is…but just in case…I’d love a chance to win. hugs, Margie
Ohhhhh Icee’s are a fav in our house as well! Cute photo of you girls!
It’s like everyday they are new people! Your blog is one of the many joys in my life. Thanks!
Wish our mall had a carousel–we just have a huge fountain that intermittendly leaps up. Brooke still loves it though!
oh, I just love it all, as always. And I love the mall excursion. And I Love the giveaway too!!
You’re children are beautiful!! My daughter would love one of those clips:)
As always, the most stylish girls on the planet! I continue to enjoy reading about your adventures with the girlies…
Those clips are beyond cute, and it looks like they work great with fine hair, which is what my niece has. I only have boys, so if I’m the lucky winner, Rachel is going to be getting some new clippies!
i can’t believe how big nella is getting. she just looks so long in the pics on the stairs. my little guy just turned 17 months today- and yesterday- he walks! i can’t believe they’re so big already!
Although its hard to see Nella grow up at the same time its wonderful. She is so precious. Lainey as well. They are beautiful.
Right now I am loving having the whole summer off. It’s great being a teacher. 🙂
Not sure if you’ve heard the song “the best day” by taylor swift, but its a TOTAL love song to mommas who give parenting everything they’ve got in every stage of the kiddos life.
Its the perfect love song from a daughter to her mom. Its beautiful.
Check it out!!
I am inspired by your writing and your photography. Thank you for sharing your life and thoughts.
