enjoying the (abbreviated) small things

November 5, 2008 By Kelle

5. date night…at home.
so, the economy’s in the crapper and going out to a fancy dinner just isn’t in the cards for us lately, but i’ll be darned if we don’t have a little ambience. so, i surprised the daddy last night with a full-out fancy meal. it started simple, but as it went along, i got more and more excited to make it special. i am envigorated…inspired…roused to the challenge of making life as beautiful as it can be for everyone around me.

4. she gets in her book suitcase now to read books.

she’s such a cool, funny kid.

3. these absolutely fantabulous shoes i picked up a few weeks ago on clearance at marshalls for…twenty dollars. that’s right. twenty. i had done four photo shoots that week and come sunday, i grabbed my purse and said to brett, “i’m going to buy a pair of shoes.” that’s it. and i left. didn’t know where i was going or that i’d come home with something quite this fabulous, but i knew in the end, i at least was coming home with a pair of shoes. when i saw these, all by their lonesome on the size 9 rack, the heavens parted, the angels sang, and i think i almost caught a glimpse of my grandma. they’re delicious, and i haven’t had a chance to wear them out, but girl’s night is this friday so….

2. upon dig’s fabulous suggestion that i start a series of these mommy/baby self-portrait things…

1. to pull out all her clothes in her second drawer that’s just a little too high for her, she has to stand on her tippy tippy toes…and it’s just about the cutest thing i’ve ever seen…

…enjoying the positively delicious things. ~k

Oh, the tippy toes…she has begun her reach on things beyond! I want to see a picture of Lainey with the funny hat I bought her…and maybe the knee pad gardening set! I actually like those shoes–bad sign! Great dinner…it was Carabba’s loss!

Baby pointe slippers, that’s all I’m going to say!!!

Oh and can I skip out on my life and come to dinner tonight? That looks so much more appetizing than the maruchan ramen hot&sour noodles in a cup I am scarfing down.

Okay so many things to comment on:

1st – I love that expression “the economy’s in the crapper” – it is just hilarious and I don’t know why, definitely not a funny situation, why is it so funny though?

2nd – tippy toes are SUPER cute!!!

3rd – you are totally gourmet! I second Emma’s nomination to skip out on my life and join you for dinner! Of course if we both joined you guys, it probably wouldn’t be too romantic – haha, sorry Brett

4th – you called Brett “daddy” in the post hahaha

5th – love you guys and wish I was in Florida with you all!!!

dinner…divine. the tablescape was beautiful. well done. so sweet!

LOVE those DELICIOUS heels. they are works of art. can not wait to see you workin’ them on friday.

self-portraits are the BEST. jeff and i have a collection from when we first started dating and those are the ones we pick up, look at, remember, and laugh about.

    And I,

am impressed with the fresh basil.
Perfect, like a little bow hair ribbon for the meal.

    🙂

I think it’s neat that you included Lainey on your date night!

    Those shoes ROCK.

I love that you saw your grandma! ha! New shoes are the greatest.

And you definitely not the only one of my comments who made a different choice than me. I am just so proud that my fellow peeps voted…I personally know two adults (51 and 38 years old) who voted for the first time in this election. cool.

And the song says “we are all in this together…” yup.

Love Lainey in striped things. One of my readers sent me a tutorial for making babylegs out of adult socks…I tell you how it works out.

love the “in the house” date night.
great idea. (and so much more fun when babies are invited, don’t you think??)

    stripy socks. love ’em.

cora has realized that using the bottom drawer enables her to reach things up so much higher. she just pulls it open and jumps on in. ready made step stool.
