I hate them. Hopefully, she never asks for one. Their boobs scare me. And I think it’s weird that you have to “become” the Barbie to play with her. I won’t refuse one if she wants one…I’ll just use every tactic I know to distract her away from them. Don’t get me wrong…I know plenty of girls who played with Barbies that turned out lovely…it’s just a personal thing.
…but I LOVE baby dolls. With baby dolls, you still get to be you, but you get to be a mommy version of you. I bought her first baby doll when she was two months old. And I have dreamed of playing baby dolls with her for years…little doll clothes, strollers, bottles, the whole nine yards. I think it makes little girls nurturing and loving and motherly, and I love that. (not that I won’t love her just the same if she chooses to be a liberal non-child-producing Mattel CEO).
Today, the lightbulb went off. Out of the blue, she became a baby doll mommy. Kisses them, feeds them, holds them. For the first time, she even took her pacifier out of her mouth, put it in her baby’s mouth and made little sucking noises. I can’t get over how much fun it’s been today to see her as a mommy.

I love this pic…just peekin’ over the cradle tendin’ to her baby… oh, this dolly thing is heaven.
…and we had our 12 month appointment today…big saddies with 2 shots and 2 vials of blood drawn. Two words: Heart. Wrenching. I hate that she doesn’t know why this is all happening, but Lainey Love is a trooper and was smiling in no time! We love our pediatrician too…so loving and caring and always pushes the natural route. We’ve been through so much with her! Why I love her today: not pushing me to switch to a sippy. “It’ll come when it comes.” Lainey thanks you. She loves her ba-ba.

Precious! :o)
How sweet…so many things are blooming in her little mind’s garden. It is her splendor of spring! Enjoy! Marvel! Watch! Celebrate!
I’ve never been a fan of barbies eiether!! It’s more bc I liked the Tonka trucks as a little girl, but Barbies always annoyed me with their perfection!
Love the picture of her with Dr. Foley…she looks like she feels so safe!!
xoxo
What an adorable shot at Gap?! Are you kidding as to how sweet Lainey is with her baby doll, I love it. She’s practicing what you do with her!
It’s amazing how girls and boys develop differently. In an area (Ann Arbor) where people are so scared of “gendering” their children it’s so refreshing to see both of you embracing her “girlyness” whole heartedly. I know you’d love her just the same if she loved cars and trucks. She looks so grown up in these pics.
“liberal non-child-producing mattel ceo” – very funny!
went back and looked at that Dr. Foley pic and laughing…she looks like she could be her daughter! Green eyes and strawberry blonde hair! Ha!
As a liberal child-producing future ceo who never played with barbies, I challenge the provincial armchair analysis. That said, your freaking adorable kid gets cuter by the moment!
poor baby…i hate shot days. I’m on the fence on the Barbies…but i definitely like baby dolls better. K, do you remember that you bought Peyton’s first baby dolly??!!
xoxo
So fun to see her growing up. Chloe was 20 months when Tessa was born and soon after started feeding her babydolls from her belly button! (Her version of nursing. ha!) And Barbies shmarbies! Who needs em?!
Kell- did you take a shot of Lainey and Lily’s husband with the toddler sign? I would love to have that if you did, I can’t remember. You can Snap it to me…Snapfish that is:)
OK I have to admit I was a Barbie lover. BUT loved dolls way more and loved acting as mommy I think I played with dolls until in high school. LOL
How adorable! That is too cute for words! She takes after her mother FOR SURE!
I have to admit I was a Barbie lover too. But I played like “dollhouse style”. They were always an ordinary family, mommy, daddy, kids.
My kid loves barbies too… I find it funny, because I did not encourage it!
hugs from Brazil!
Awwwww! Thanks for the throwback!
