finally.
a full 10.
not the shortened five.
not the lazy stream-of-consciousness (although i do love a good stream-of-consciousness)
enjoying the small things…
10. the latest lovelies in front of the lens…
andy and allison…freshly engaged and planning an october wedding.

and my friend and beautiful mama, colleen and her boys…

9. breaking my record for best deal ever. like these brand new fabulous shoes i picked up at marshalls…regularly $98…and a steal at…ready?… five. dollars. that’s right. five.

8. being tricked into feeling like i actually want to clean the house when i wear these fabulous dish gloves. (thank you, heidi).

cleaning has never been more beautiful.
7. smooshy shower door faces. sweet milky sumptuous-cheeked baby face pressed into a foggy door. oh, there ain’t nothin’ better.

6. and speakin of showers…

wet lashes. seriously…i don’t know how she got so blessed in the lash department.
5. getting daisies today from a friend. as kathleen kelly says…daisies are the friendliest flower.
4. watching her spin and spin and spin like mad…

…and then laughing hard when she transforms into a drunken weeble wobble. thankfully, we haven’t been hurt.

3. watching her take off with my photo prop tonight…in just a diaper. oh, and some very pretty silver shoes.

2. pouring a cold glass of milk from not a storebought carton…but this. this lovely little piece of art. milk begs to be stored within the cold walls of a glass carafe. it’s vintage. nostalgic. now if only we had milkmen.

1. the beauty of words. just really delicious words. i’ve made a list in a little book over the years of words–adjectives, adverbs, meaty verbs–that i love. and i’ve found myself adding to it more these days. i love words.
so, there you have it.
and if you wish…when you leave a comment. leave me with your five little things you are enjoying these days. i always love reading them. even if it is…oh, what was it? armpits and puke that you love.

…enjoying the small things. ~k

What I’m lovin’ in no particular order:
1. Modestly accepting words of praise at what a terrific soccer player Ellie belly is.
2. Seeing my brothers number on caller i.d.
3. Feeling that butterfly feeling in my stomach (like the kind when your dating) when I get a text from my husband. He swore he would never text.
4. Listening to my ten year old belt out that song on the radio about “marry me Juliet” and then getting teary knowing someday she will marry….
5. “October Road” by James Taylor playing softly through my computer. Oh JT, how I love you so.
I just have three gratitudes tonight… but they are big ones…
1) Jamie’s strength and creativity in this recession…
He has a backbone for our family that I never knew existed. It’s sexy and reassuring.
2) Katie’s resilience…
She is able to make friends with all types of kids, and I know this quality will save her from the ugliness of mean-girlness. I am beyond grateful and I stand in awe of her confidence.
3) Jordan’s humor…
example: he has been extra “sarcastic/eye rolling/sooo-over his mother” lately.
Part of that breaks my heart, but the other part is extra ecstatic when he lets me back in and smells my neck like he used to and tells me how much he loves me….but I digress!!
Anyway…he was being extra irritating last night, and instead of lashing back, I finally said out of desperation,
“do they have a secret class in sarcasm for thirteen-year-olds or something?”
to which he answered,
“yep” ( little smile)
me: “and what about an eye-rolling class?”
him: (shy smile)
“it’s an elective”
…after which we had a nice laugh and playful hug. Happy sigh.
I love the humor we share, and it will see us through the teens. I just know it.

Oh you so did NOT get those awesome shoes THAT cheap!! YEAH for you!
1. My husband who would rather be with the girls and I, then anyplace else. And he tells me that daily.
2. Darby, when hearing me tell her big sisters it’s time to get jammies on, escapes for several minutes, only to come back with HER jammies on…standing so proudly to show me. I love that she wants to be big too.
3. My girls happy in school, with lots of friends and no drama whatsover..especially my 5th grader who seems to be liked by everyone.
4. My folks living three doors down, I get to see them daily and more importantly, the girls can escape to grandmas anytime they want..I love that special bond they are making, because I didn’t ever really have that.
5. My early excerise mornings. It’s crazy, but thats MY time, and I feel so awesome when I’m done…and that I can eat whatever I want because of it!!
Five little things I am enjoying these days:
– I know spring is close. We may have gotten fresh snow on the ground yesterday — but I know spring is near.
– My mother is coming to visit next week. Looking forward to some family time with her and my bro!
– The excitement of a possible upcoming Asian trip. Even if it doesn’t happen, I love the excitment of the possibility….
– The thanks expressed by my bf for his birthday surprises… I know how much he appreciates the little things 🙂
– My recent involvement in my community…. There are so many people here that share my interests in living sustainability, etc. I’m glad to become more a part of that.
1) Our Nanny K! To know Lily is being loved on when we’re not there gives us more comfort than you can ever ever ever ever possibly know! Happy sigh.
2) Feeling like I have an extra spring in my step today with my red toenails which I’ve NEVER had (the red that is)
3) Seeing Lily’s puffy cloth diapered butt from behind as she crawls away.
4) Seeing her crawl towards me yesterday cutting through the couches, pushing everything out of the way to get to me, grunting the happy grunt the whole way! Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it!
5) Seeing Andrea with Lily knowing that’ll be her very soon one day and knowing that Lily gives her more hope for that!
6) David’s work ethic during the hardest time in his work life.
7) Having friends who love me and would be there for me in a moment’s notice for anything.
8) Swiffer wetjet that has reignited my mopping desire.
9) Thankful Thursday and keeping up with it even when we’re not in the mood.
10) Lily. Plain and simple. Just Lily! More thankful for her than anything in my life. She she put a giant band aid over my broken heart, stitched it back together so it’s whole again and stretched it further than I ever knew possible.
