I’m Loving…
The Makings of a Smile (minus the fact that my rapid head movements and obnoxious deet-deet-deet-ling make me appear quite crazy) seen here: Click it. I’ve watched it a trillion times already because the crescendo to her smile and the clouds-parting-and-angels-singing thing that happens when it finally comes…it makes me crazy. Even crazier than whiplashing my head and deet-deet-deetling.
The Itsy Bitsy Spider with Dot (and how she happens to A: find a way to add the word “Beckham” into every song, and B: get stuck on “Come Down and Washed the–“ over and over and can’t move on) seen here: Click it.
Brett, the Cook
Suddenly, out of nowhere, he thinks he’s Bobby Flay, and I’m loving it. He never cooks. But now, I guess he does. I walked into the kitchen to this yesterday:
And today, after some delicious and suspicious wafting scents, I opened a crock pot lid to find a hot mess of pork tenderloin. And fresh lemon wedges. And tender jalepenos soaking in a glaze of yellowy stuff that smelled amazing. Wow. Brett’s a cook.
Junk Drawer Challenge
I once said something along the lines of kids are entertained by anything and I bet you could find some amazing thing to do with them if you opened your junk drawer and dug through it. This was after reading some article in a Martha Stewart magazine about a great craft to do with your kids and all you need is like some Peruvian wool, a loom, a blow torch, some unkinked Spanish moss, one egg from a black swan, a 1/16 inch drill bit, some hard-to-find natural clay dyed some hard-to-reach color and, um, a spoon.
Anyway, we did the drunk drawer challenge…mainly just to prove myself right.
(Hmmm…I spy a Marilyn Monroe refrigerator magnet, a Polly Pocket dress, a wooden knob and an outlet cover.)
We found a spool of wire and a handful of loose beads left over from her hospital Big Sister crown. I set her to work stringing beads for a bracelet and she was in heaven. The girl craves hand-eye coordination tasks like McGyver.
And, Voila:

Take that, Martha (not that I don’t love you). I see your drill bit and your Peruvian wool and I raise you a spool o’ wire and some plastic beads. Yeah.
The Holy Grail has Arrived.
The Book, The Book, oh The Book. I touched its pages like they were made of gold leaf, caressed its binding like–ew, I just said caressed. Regardless, Lainey loves it. Like loves it, loves it. Laughs at all the pictures of Latte she can find in it.
And, I’m working on some minor blog make-overs where I’ll answer some F.A.Q.s which will include lots of camera/photo/memory book answers along with some other stuff readers have expressed interest in. So, good stuff to come.
Happy Wednesday. Can I say it one more time? There is beauty in the world.
Go find some.

Oh!!! First comment!!!!
Going to watch videos!!! Love you and Lainey peeking over the top of the book….you gals are so gorgeous <3
Yay for new posts! Loved watching your crazy mama video just to get baby smiles! I do these same crazy things with my 8 month old! Can’t wait for the FAQs!

Okay that video of Nella’s smile just brought sunshine to this gloomy spring California day.
Okay, I am so hoping and praying that my husband goes through a similar revolution like Brett’s!
I’ve been making a book for my granddaughter Cassidy after every birthday. Recently delivered Volume 6 (I live in Oregon, she lives in Colorado). The picture you posted of you with Lainey and her book took me back a few weeks to what I posted on my blog at: http://www.mauriandsherry.com/2010/03/23/volume-6/
I create Cass’s books in InDesign and have them printed locally. I haven’t set the high standard of Lainey’s books, but I’m still pleased with the outcome. Cassidy now asks her mama to take pictures of certain events so they can go in her next book. Love it! A wonderful connection we’ll have for all time!
I’m a faithful reader, though I don’t often (ever) comment. Thanks for the lovely photojournal of your life.
That book looks amazing!
Deet-deet-deet-deet!
Oh Kelle…Oh my goodness, oh my goodness(said in the voice of Annie’s friend in Little Orphan Annie!)
Seriously!!?! That smile?!! I can’t take it…heart..going..to…burst. And I LOVE how she thinks you messed up the song, lol!! I can’t say it enough…your girls are so beyond sweet it’s ridiculous!!
xoxo-nicole
You have to love it when the husband wants to cook. Mine loves to cook, he probably does it better then me and I’m the one who went to cooking school. Does Brett clean up his mess when he’s done?? That’s usually what I get left with!! Love the book, such a great idea….I wish I had done that with all my kiddies. Baby smiles are so great….my nieces are almost 6 weeks old now (but were 4 months early) and I saw smiles the other day…..I love it!!!
Your posts always uplift me….I’m behind in posting on my blog and you have given me inspiration to catch up!!! Thanks!!
Dinner at your house? Yum! You don’t mind that I invite myself do you?
I love Shutterfly books! love em! I have never ordered one that large… what a work of art. That is stunning!
That picture book looks BIG!!! 🙂 I wish I could make one for my Mateo soon!
Your girls are adorable 🙂
Patiently waiting for your FAQs 🙂
Great picture of Brett and Nella!
I am not speaking to my junk drawer!
:o)
I love your photo book. I’ve made a few and they always bring a smile when I re-read them.
I have been following your blog for a few months and I am finding myself becoming very territorial. I have a 25 year old daughter with Downs. I have blogging friends who do not have children with DS and when I hear of them spreading the word about your blog I think, ‘Hey, you can’t do that, Kelle’s in MY club!’ 🙂
Love your blog!
What an amazing book!!!
Your whole post has put a huge smile on my face…
Your daughters are beautiful blessings from God.
I am so thankful that there is beauty in the world. And I often find so much of it here : ) Here at this wonderful blog filled with blessings.
The book looks AMAZING!
just heard myself saying today … i’m in desperate need of an “i’m loving …” post.
because in the midst of getting ready to present at a conference next week and taking care of all 3 kids by myself ALL week … i’m at a low.
thanks for reminding me to take the time tonight to search for beauty.
Love the vidoes! Only other moms can understand the crazy arm waving, silly noises that we seem to sqeek with a little one in the house.
Lovely! I really love the book idea, I assume you make one every year? What a great collection she will have to show her friends and future spouse (can I say that when she’s only 3?) when she’s older. How sweet!
beautiful post! I love your joyful attitude… its infectious.
big breath and a sighhhhh****
I am smitten by your beautiful world!!
Hugs,
Valerie + Madigan
Take that Martha indeed!
OMG, those videos are AMAZING!
And I LOVE that you said “drunk drawer challenge” ha!!! In your pic, I spy a hair claw thingie, but no scrunchie, shucks.
Three posts in three days, I’m in heaven!

There is NOTHING more beautiful than the husband cooking dinner!!!OK, besides those two cutie patootie girls you have! Man, that Nella just gets cuter every time you post on her! I am in love…..never met her, never held her, never laid an eye on her, but I am IN LOVE with her. If you don’t keep posting on her and Lainey Love, then the hubby and I will have to move to Naples and join the neighborhood fun! 😉
Have a wonderful, beautiful week! XO
I say this over and over again: your pictures are breathtakingly beautiful. I am forever inspired by your words and pictures. Thank you for reminding me to find joy in the little things. 🙂
We all have then don’t we…junk drawers! I love Lainy’s book, my daughter just ordered hers and I need to do it too. So sweet daddy and Nella…sending xoxox’s 😀
Once again you have brought joy to my day. I am sitting my my 16 month old (16 months, how did that happen) looking at your photos. He keeps pointing at each one, telling me whole baby babble stories about them.
all i have to say is…you bring beauty into the world in how you express it! thanks for the inspiration.
i love the music but i have a really good song that I think would match your blog! The Best Day By:Taylor Swift I can totlly relate to your junck drawer
Love the junk-drawer challenge! Martha Stewart’s world is very beautiful, but, alas, not the one most of us inhabit…
Love, love, love the book…..You and Lainey peeking over it is just beautiful. And the vidoes are amazing……Nella is so beautiful and when she smiles my heart melts. Oh and your junk drawer looks just like mine, I even had to show my husband the picture of yours cause he’s always trying to clean it. Now he will never ever bug me about it again, so thanks for that!!!!
that last picture of a girl and her daddy is quite possibly the sweetest thing i’ve ever seen. what a special moment you captured. it will truly be a treasure in the future.
you have just inspired me to order a 12 x 12 instead of the 8 x10 book. Shutterfly should seriously cut you a deal from all the business you are sending their way! 🙂 That book is perfect! PS my Junk drawer looks very similar, happy de-junking!
Just when think a new post couldn’t be better than the last, you outdo yourself again!
Thanks Kelle for making me smile today!
Love the I Spy aka Junk drawer! My kids loved those books….
Keep em comin!!
Sue
thanks for posting new stories more often now. it’s the highlight of my day that, more often that not, is kinda crazy. your blog reminds me that in this imperfect world, miracles and love still happen. your family is beautiful!
Love the I-spy drawer. I know who should be your first blog sponser–shutterfly! You are giving them more business than any other website out there. That book looks amazing, beautiful, vibrant and perfect! I am so excited you are going to answer more photography and memory book questions. I almost sent you an email today asking about your page layouts on Lainey’s book. Time to go watch some videos. 🙂
xoxo
This post is absolutely delicious to watch!!! Your girls are quite the performers – love Lainey’s voice- especially the “pider” and Nella- I can see how her smile melts your heart as I am sure she has melted so many others including mine!!!!
Kudos to you for getting all your photos and memories from one year into ONE book!! I have it down to four a year, one for each season! Ha ha! And I’m not even a photographer! I would LOVE to read info about your photography/camera/editing software and memory books… I have a love of photography and making digital scrapbooks too! Your scrapbooks look like you use something different than me! Your photography is obviously natural talent, but how did you learn photoshop? Is there a good training you recommend? I look forward to that post. Thank you for sharing and helping others in our quest to capture our families! You have beautiful daughters!
Hey Kelle
I’m new here(in the comments). My name is Natasha, brazilian and I don’t know how I
arrived here. So, I am grateful to have known this blog, you and your family.
I love the special way what you talk about your family. Your photos?…I only can say Wow, Wow, Wow. You’re fantastic! I am delighted on this side of the screen viewing your photos.
Well..this is it!
Congratulations for your talent and your family! The girls are lovely!
You’ve won a reader.
Ah….I loved the book! I make scrapbooking and had some books too.
XoXo
Hugs
Natasha
SO FUN! love junk drawers.. love the videos and nella’s big huge smile! the best!!!! and lainey’s itsy bitsy… PRECIOUS!!!
xo
Loving this–that bracelet? Super cute!
And I love, love, LOVE the picture of the two of you peeking over the book!
ps-that food? Looks delish…
i see your one junk drawer and i up you a second huge additional junk drawer. I swear they are mutating and are in several rooms of my house at this point. when i want to talk on the phone and need to keep gracee busy i send her deep into the unexplored territory of the junk drawer and throw her a rope to get back out. every bad choice lipstick is in there and always looks much better on gracee when she discovers it and says “finders keepers.” but she always finds a way to get out of the finders keepers deal when i find one of her long lost polly pockets and say it is mine. I am going to show my husband your junk drawer to PROVE to him that there is not one house in the world without a junk drawer…well..with the exception of his mother’s house…ha!
wow, how much do I love seeing the junk drawer! I feel so much better, mine looks just like that and it’s like my dirty little secret! I always want my house to look perfect, nothing out of place and then you open a drawer…and snakes could pop out! I have never thought of doing the craft thing though, it’s a great “earth day” thing to do!
That picture of you and Lainey peeking over the top of your photo-book is priceless!!!! It brought so much joy to my heart! And those videos stopped my heart!!! Thank you for sharing your family, your joy, and your love of life with us!
can’t wait for FAQ’s! and another thank you for your playlist, seriously I’m on your site like eight hours a day cause my baby loves this music!
I never do, but because it was on during a quick lunch in front of the TV, I watched Martha’s show. While I really do admire her sense of style and appreciation for the tried and true tedious way over the quick and convenient, she was demonstrating how to launder fine linen napkins. The woman had long rubber gloves that made her look like a forensic specialist on a Bones episode. She washed these fine linens by hand, then hung them to dry on a large wooden device, reminding viewers to first cover the wooden rungs with parchment paper lest (I like lest) they leave marks on the linens. Then, they were placed in gentle sunlight. And I think I’m stepping it up to buy the nicer, more elegant paper napkins! Yes, let me dive in a junk drawer for treasures. It was always called the “Fibber Magee Drawer” by my mother and it was always the last chance for finding the misplaced and the lost. Yes, there is a beauty in the comfortable. The soft leather stuff of life that is gloriously acceptable to us. Living real, authentically…the best that we can but also embracing the blemishes. The world has perfected and polished everything to the point we forget there is beauty in the “less than perfect.” Like my well worn leather back pack that is even nicer with its darkened tone that tells of a long life and lots of handling or my dad’s Bible I inherited, with margin notes and underlined verses, crinkled pages and a peeling cover that reminds me it was a trusted map guiding a long voyage. These things are more perfect than the pristeen. I think I find the secrets and surprises of a junk drawer more alluring than the well ordered. And I seem to draw nearer to the ragged and the raw in the swift current of life than those who are too carefully kept. I am sure they have never reached a giggling crescendo with “Deet, Deet, Deet!”
And the sun still comes to dry up all the rain…it really, really does.
I just have to tell you, I’m sitting here with my middle son (4.5 yrs old). He says ‘that baby’s cute’ to every picture. And, my oldest (6) LOVES your music. I put your blog on at night to help mellow everyone down.
,,,,she tickles me,,,a perfect “vogue” shot,,,palms smashing her cheeks which make her lips purse like a fish all the while her eyes rolling in the back of her head,,,isn’t this how all super models begin their careers?,,,how i would give my left arm to be amused like you are,,,lovely lainey takes the cake!,,,nella-vanilla is yummy too!,,,thanks for introducing me to nici holt-cline, triple “dig this chick”,,,can’t wait to wear my az t-shirt that she is making as a result of seeing lainey and nella wearing her couture,,,
I almost peed my pants watching the deet-deet-deet-ling video! Nella loving all that action and stimulation! Such a precious smile.
Can’t wait to check out your work of art (aka – “the book”). ~ Jen
Three posts in three days!!! Nice work!
Nella is just getting cuter by the minute and Lainey is beyond adorable! Can’t wait to see you answers to the questions and mini blog make over…I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!
Allison in Australia! :o)
I love the picture of Nella looking at daddy like he is the best thing in the world. There is nothing better in life than daddy’s and their little girls!!
Girl, you seriously rock! You make me laugh and cry at the same time!!! Nella is an angel!!!! Lainey is such a doll!!! Another heartwarming post that I am so thankful for!! I am SO excited to see the FAQ’s!!! I have so much I’d like to ask. I actually was wishing we were “real” girlfriends and I could have grabbed my cell and called you to ask you a craft question while in Michael’s searching for party favors! 🙂 Happy Wednesday to you!
Love,
Tara
I wanted to say that the those videos are precious. 🙂 Every time I read your blog it brings a smile to my face. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Love the picture of you and Lainey peeking over the book!
Loving the videos! Nella is the most precious thing and her smile could light up the night. And I was seriously laughing out loud to Laineys rendition of the Itsy Bitsy Spider, look out American Idol!
I also have a camera question…
Any reccomendations for a good “starter” camera? I want to get into taking photos (have for a while, but until now havent gotten serious enough). Right now I have just a basic digital.
I am hooked on your blog, your beautiful girls, your amazing photography and writing skills and most of all your inspiration!! Thank you for sharing this with the world.
omg love the videos!
Lainey reminds me so much of my Liliana singing the itsy bitsy spider… I just love almost-3-year-olds, what a fun age =)
My heart is happy right now! Loving your videos, Nella’s flashing smile, Lainey’s singing and creativity, the last two beautiful pictures and Fisher’s Beautiful Life song!
I have my techniques to get baby smiles and trust me I look crazier than you. Lately, I’m into imitating all types of animals. I’ll admit the sound & movement need a bit of coordination and I’m not getting as many smiles as I would like but I’m working on it. =))
“Contentment is natural wealth…” -Socrates
Happy Wed! Hump day. Need I say more? Sorry- too far.
love the smiles on the video how adorable. the pictures of you and Lainey with her beautiful book just perfect.
love the smiles on the video how adorable. the pictures of you and Lainey with her beautiful book just perfect.
Looking forward to your Photography tips 🙂
How do you organize your photos on your computer? This has been a challenge for me ever since I bought an SLR and started taking LOTS of pictures.
So today I got my Kelle’s blog fix, got my Poppa’s blog fix (well, close). All is well in the world. I can go to sleep now 🙂
Oh, and you’re going to laugh, but I absolutely adore the pictures of you with your hair in braided pigtails, so I wore mine like that the other day and my husband loved it. I couldn’t bear to tell him I got the idea from someone’s blog; he’d think I was nuts.
Can’t wait for the F.A.Q.s on photography!
Totally makes my day when I make the blog…It’s a beautiful day…Love you all xoxo. BTW tell Brett I have a new screen saver…lol
Dot, I heard your voice on the video, and, in the words of Randy Jackson, “A little pitchy, but you made it your own, Dawg!” You are my American Idol! Thanks for being such a wonderful auntie to my giddles!
I play your music almost all day, so if you see someone constantly hanging out on yoru blog, its because I LUUUV the music!
Great post, I love all your posts, but this one really got me!
There is beauty in the world~
That book for lainey looks fantastic. I previewed it online but it looks so much more beautiful and meaningfull in you & your daughters hands. I also love the pic of daddy & daughter. You are a cutest little family.
Hope you have a lovely week!
oh my what can I say about your post? I can remember the first time my grandson laughed out loud when his granny clapped his hands together, what a amazing thing that was. The last pic of Brett and Nella is breath taking… she loves her daddy so much.
I just love Nella’s body language in the picture with her daddy.
Ok the pictures of you two looking at Lainey’s book are like scrapbooking pictures of you scrapbooking! I love it! I dare you to include those pictures in next years album!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Kelle!
I have just spent a whole night (I’m in Norway) reading your blog, and I just wanted you to know that I think it’s the most beautiful thing I have ever read. I don’t have children, so there are many things that I cannot fully relate to, but I know what it is like to have your life changed. I have been sick for many years, and wondering why did this happen to me? But I really do believe that I am meant to learn from this, all the days at various hospitals, doctors, nurses, medicines… I am now beginning to accept that it is what it is. There are some things in life you cannot change, that hits you like “a bus” wether you are prepared or not. But when that bus hits you, it is also leaving you with a choice, to deal with it or not.
Though I sometimes wish I could just go to sleep and wake up and everything would be “fine” again, I also know that given the choice, I would do it all over again. I have been blessed with laughter, tears, days spent in the woods screaming and kicking some poor trees that just got in my way, and some wonderful friendships. I like you, didn’t want to be in any “family” or “club”, nothing to remind me of the reality I was, and still am, living in. But to laugh and cry with people who know what you are going through, who urge you to continue when you just want to give up, that is one of the most beautiful thing in the world.
I wish you and your family all the best, and just as you tell your daughter that she can change lives, do great things, I want you to know that so can you! It takes a lot of wisdom and courage to see how even the rainy days has a special purpose in ones life.
Ida, Norway
You are a lucky woman.
Speaking as someone who adopted two perfectly beautiful children who are not your average bears, I’ve had people, including doctors and other professionals, tell my girls how lucky they are to have been adopted, which I’m sure is well intentioned but I always want to say, “No, dumba$$, you don’t get it. I am the absolute luckiest person in world. My girls are God’s grace.”
Your blog says it so much better, and you don’t even have to call anyone a dumba$$.
Kelle, you are a lucky woman.
Hi Kelle,
Your little girls are so adorable! There really is nothing better than a baby’s smiles or a little one singing. I love it! I love the book! I’ve used My Publisher in the past but might have to try out shutterfly now. Does it take a long time to upload photos being such high resolution? Also, have you ever tried to print your blog? I want to print mine as a record and don’t know what company to use.
Thanks for brightening, an otherwise really overwhelming day! It always makes me happy to read your blog!
Summer
My oldest two boys love looking over my shoulder as I read your posts. They have come to know who “Lainey” and “Nella” are, and ask how they are doing anytime I am on the computer.
Tonight was the best – upon launching the video of Nella laughing, the boys wanted to try “deet-deet-deet-ling” to our own almost-15-week-old. After some wide eyes and a look that initially said “uh, what are you doing with my hands” the little man started to smile and then giggle too. The older boys, myself, and the baby were all laughing, laying on the floor watching our new deet-ling game together. I loved it! A picture that I didn’t capture on firm, but will stay in my mind forever.
Thanks so much for sharing Kelle!
-Jenny
P.S. The boys also giggled tonight when they informed me our baby boy has a girlfriend – Nella! 🙂
that ispy photo was a big hit with me. i spent like, 7 whole minutes just looking at it. : ) and that one of you and lainey looking over the book is PERFECT!! the lighting rocks!! who took it?
Oh my gosh! You’ve added a video of those precious little girls! Now, we’ll fall in love with them all over again!
I think Nella fully intends to break into her big grin and giggle – from the very first ‘deet’ she hears from her Mom – but, she makes you work for it…..”just how many ‘deets’ can I get out my Mom, before I break myself up laughing?” she seems to be asking! She’s so wise!…..And your sweet Lainey – and her ‘pider – who can resist her?!
Thank-you for sharing with us – and I’m another one looking forward to your FAQs…
Thanks……Rosemary
This is my 15 month old daughter’s favorite blog ~ she LOVES looking at “Baby Nella”. We visit every night, while the rest of the house is sleeping.
You had to go and add icing on the cake by adding her favorite song to your playlist (Beautiful Life)
And – your sweet Lainey & my (just turned 3) Lily look similar, with their blond hair (although Lil’s is curly)and dark eyes. It’s not uncommon for her to ask, “Is that ME?” when she sees a picture of Lainey.
thanks for sharing your beautiful love of life with the world!
I saw you had a new post earlier in the day but saved it to read until the house was quiet, both of my littles tucked in bed dreaming their sweet dreams. Your words & pictures are my favorite dessert… a perfect ending to the day.
You have such a gift for shining a light on the ordinary, everyday things and revealing their secrets. Seriously, I keep waiting for a so-so post… one where I walk away saying “oh, that was nice.” But instead, you blow me away, every-single-time.
Cheers,
Kate
p.s. That last picture of Daddy & Nella is just dreamy… I think it is my new favorite!
Ummm… can I just say? I LOVE your Dad’s comments. Its like, I read your precious blog posts.. and while still on the “high” from that.. I scroll down to put the cherry on top with your Poppa’s comments! Its ridiculous how much I “get” what you two say. Like we’re just sitting across the table from one another shooting the breeze on a very routine Wednesday. What the heck??
I am pregnant.. and my husband asked me the other day what makes a baby have Down’s Syndrome. I started to explain it to him.. and while I was.. I found myself smiling and thinking of Nella. If I had never found your blog.. his question would have sparked fear in me.. making me think.. “why is he asking me this?” “Does he think we’ll have one of THOSE babies?”
But, you show the world that there is nothing to fear. In fact.. Nella makes Down’s look fun and beautiful and amazing to the point to where it really doesnt even scare me??!! How cool is that!!
That is quite a feat girl!!! =D
Keep on bein’ yourself Kelle!! I love your down to earth attitude.. its what drew so many people to you before you had a bazillion followers on this blog! Lol..
God bless you and your precious family!!
XOXO
You inject a little happiness into my life with every post Kelle. I love, love, love the picture of Nella with Brett. Being able to watch the video of your girls was just like sitting down with a cup of coffee and enjoying the moment there…Hugs
I cant believe how cute those videos are! 😀 Oh my, they gave me a huge smile on my face. 🙂 Thank you.
You seem like a super creative mom, I’d definitely go here for inspiration if I were a mom. 🙂 and surely will do i ever get to be one. Thanks for enjoying life!
All the best from Norway.
Love love love the deet-deet-deet video. That slow-blooming smile is priceless! I’m thrilled that you are going to write some info about taking photos as I look at yours and wish that mine looked even half as good. Oh to get the colours so vivid and crisp.
xx from Invercargill, New Zealand
If your posts are my long awaited nice dinner out, then Poppa’s comments are it’s dessert! My Enjoying the Small Things cup is overflowing this week! And we had a “Kelle” moment at home last night when we dropped everything, crawled onto our bed and jumped, tickled, and laughed til we couldn’t breathe with our almost two year old little boy. Thank you!! Oh and the way Lainey says spider is seriously adorable! I hope she never adds the “S”!!!
WOW the book is huge! I dodn’t think they were so big, that’s awesome, I want to make one myself, but I imagine they are really expensive? And I don’t live in America 😛
Can’t you show us what programme you use and how you make the pages to pretty with the colors and background and everything else? Your layouts with the text and pictures are wonderful 🙂
oh kelle, you are my happy place.i get a little thrill when there is a new post from you.
lainey love is a precious little pixie+nella…words fail me when i see her beautiful eyes+little rosebud mouth.you have opened my eyes to the gorgeousness of that extra chromosone, she is perfection.

sam(tallulah belle violette’s and scarlett ruby rose’s very proud mama)xxxx
I think that I can speak for myself and all of us above when I say that you have become like family. I look forward to every post and feel like I’ve known you guys for years. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful family with us and hopefully some day we will meet in person. And as my older girls told me a long time ago “We are so glad that Noah was born with Down syndrome, do you know how boring life would be if he weren’t, and how many people we wouldn’t know”. This was when they were 7 years old. Very wise children, very wise!!! Nella also has that little something extra and if she didn’t none of us would probably be here. Amazing!!!
i forgot!to see your girls on video+hear your voice too…that was just the icing on the cupcake!
that is the cutest song ever, love lainey love, she is a darling little poppet(my scarlett has just turned 3,isn’t it a lovely age?)+nella smiling brings tears to my eyes(your ‘deeting’ is too cute!)
if you get time, would love more videos, they brightened my day:0)
love sam(it says chris cos it’s my hubby’s google account)
i will have you know that i totally sat there looking for the items you pointed out in your junk drawer! 🙂
Ah, the fools we make of ourselves to get smiles out of our children. 🙂
Good Gravy….give little Lainey and Nella a bravo for me…videos were better than the best seats at the theater! So very sweet…and to hear your laughter…your voice… filled with pure “night before vacation” excitement…so COOL!!!
Keep deet-deet-deet-ling with that little “Fibber Magee” treasure (thanks Poppa)….Nella is your “drawer” full of treasures..you can always find something in her that you need …nothing is ever lost when you look in her deep soulful eyes..you can always create beauty from her many “drawer contents”. Did I just compare Nella to your junk drawer? Well…yes…yes I did. 3 cheers for that little Fibber Magee!!!!!!!!
Tell Chef Brett we eat dinner around 6:30 and we’re not picky eaters. The only request I have is big ice cream bowl filled with “Nella” Wafers and “Lainey” Lorna Doones for dessert!
one more thing…watched (again and again) a photo DVD that was made for me of my girls and forgot the most perfect song was on there…..you should listen to it….it is so Nella and Lainey……so Nella and Lainey. So worth saying that twice…..
Hope you love this song as much as I do…sisters are special.
Carly Simon – Two Little Sisters (Theme from “Marvin’s Room)
Two little sisters gazing at the sea,
Imagining what their futures will be.
The older one says, as her eyes look around,
“I will go as far as the corners of the town.
I’ll plant a little garden, flowers everywhere.
And pluck the most fragrant for my hair.”
Two little sisters gazing at the sea,
Imagining what their futures will be.
The younger one stands with her eyes open wide.
And says, “I’ll go as far as the corners of the sky.
I’ll gather all the stars each night as they appear,
And pick the very brightest one to wear in my ear.”
I didn’t choose you and you didn’t choose me.
I didn’t choose you, who would guess we’re from the same family?
But, what will you do when the nights get cold?
When the stars grow dim and your dreams seem old.
Watcha gonna do when winter calls,
And your flowers fall from the garden walls?
I’ll come home to you, you’ll come home to me.
My love will be your remedy.
I’ll choose you and you’ll choose me.
We’ll be two daughters dancing by the edge of the sea.
ok one more..one more thing….Yes Brett….she loves you…loves you to that big pizza pie of a moon and back. That’s Amore.
Right now, I am loving Kelle’s posts back to back.
Your blog has inspired me in so many ways since I was introduced to it several weeks ago. I’m 23 and don’t have children yet (but since I was about 10 have wanted a little girl in Oshkosh and red keds –I couldn’t believe when I saw that in one of your old posts!) Your beautiful photograpy has inspired me to pull out my Nikon that’s been sitting in my closet since I came home from Africa this time last year, to finally start delving through my thousands of photos to make a book of my 8 months there, and as I discovered last night — your great playlists make wonderful study music. You amaze me, as I don’t know how you do it all! Your girls are beautiful, and I hope with more practice my photos will capture the emotion that yours seem to do effortlessly. Keep the inspriation comin’!
Those last two photos? They are hit-the-pause button beautiful…your little family should create a magazine called LOVE. Hello Martha? There’s this new thing in town called “to hell with ironing linens (crazy kitten)and organizing your underwear…we’d rather cuddle and rub cute button noses.”
These rapid posts are like Fourth of July Fireworks finales…a rush of joy…but this isn’t a finale, it is just a glorious beginning of posts and pics and stories and giggles and deet, deet, deets…whatever the heck those are. My heart may burst. Yes, my heart may burst. Nella…again I ask, where are we going, Poppa can’t keep up with you!
Now these videos are the essence of loving life…..soak it all up!
Maybe Brett can give my husband some lessons? Please? lol
And I think every mother has done the deet-deet-deet dance at least once…but girl, you and Nella do it with styel! 😉 As I sit at my desk with my face pressed up against my screen so I can hear…I’m smiling from ear to ear, hoping that no one walks by.
Thank you for sharing. She’s a doll baby! I just love her!
And Lainey! I don’t think she could get cuter if she tried. How sweet is her voice? *melting*
Is it bad that our house has like THREE junk drawers?
I’m thrilled to hear that you will be doing FAQ’s. Will be fun to read. I’m in the market for my first DSLR!
Lainey’s book is awesome. I love that size!!
( and P.S…. I adore Poppa!)
xo
Kris
What a wonderful post! It made my day…that video of Nella is pricesless…it made me happy so so happy inside. How can it be that I love that little girl and have never held or smelled her and yet I love her? My favorite pic? You and Lainey peaking from the book, how cute! I didn’t realize that its so big! I love it..have to make one for my girls. Thanks Kelle…have a wonderful day. Can’t wait to see more about your photography knowledge…I am ordering a new lense today and I am excited like no other! XOXO
ok i could watch that video of nella smiling all day. seriously, i have to tear myself away from it just to write this comment.
i may have to do my own junk drawer challenge myself.
nope mid- comment had to go back and watch nella again.

Those videos are too cute for words and the photo of you and Lainey with the book is gorgeous 🙂
I really needed this post today. I’m at home alone with my 14 month old son, my husbands is working very long hours, I was bored and lonely and thought to myself, ‘I need a Kelle Post’ so I log on and yay a new post!!
Thank you for making me smile 🙂 x
Megan, you must sell Arbonne…Holy Eagle Eyes. That made me laugh out loud.

OMG! Nella is absolutley adorable! I love that smile. I am at work w/o my Preston and that makes my heart melt. And Lainey…oh I love the blonde hair and her smile too. Your blog gets me through the days sometimes. I love reading it. Thank you for letting us into your lives!
Kelle – just wanted to let you know that your blog brings a smile to my face everyday. Thank you for allowing us into your life and for sharing so much with us.
Your babie girls are absolutely darling!
God, I love that you are just so real!!!!!!
It makes me feel better about myself!!!
Great videos!!!
Darling babes you have!!
An yeah Brett for cooking….You’re a rockstar too!!
Your posts always put a smile on my face! Over-the-top work drama has left me a little overwhelmed lately but slipping away from reality for even 5 minutes to read your tidbits of life always helps.
It’s my first time visiting and I have to so you are one inspirational mama! Both your daughters are just beautiful. And that book…What an amazing idea!
HA! The lengths to which we will go to get our babies to smile! I’m one of those crazies myself. And even if I’m not directly in the shot, you can almost hear me snickering in the background (even if nothing is happening, it’s the *anticipation*!).
Wow… that book is some serious eye candy! I like the one of you two peeping over the pages.
Husbands who cook (or at least help in the kitchen) ROCK!
I just love reading your blogs….there is real, genuine beauty in them and they ALWAYS leave me feeling refreshed. The one today made me cry……when I came to the photo of you and sweet Lainey reading HER book…. Man…I know that love. I am currently expecting my second daughter in 15 short days. I have the same emotions you did towards the birth of Nella. I look at my sweet Abigail, just over two years old, and I am doing my best to just soak her up…all I can….the Mommy and me moments. I’m crying as I write this thinking of how amazing she is and how it’s all going to be so different….not in a bad way….but you know what I mean. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your life with me. Thank you for your encouraging words. Thank you for your positive outlook in a world that is so dark most of the time. Thank you for allowing us to love your family from a distance! God bless you, Kelle!
Another fabulous post.
Thank you, thank you.
The world looks more beautiful through your eyes, and Im learning to open mine.
The videos of the girls are just too precious!! Love Nella’s smiles and giggles, and Lainey’s singing is just lovely!! Yay for hubby making dinner for the fam!! Like that!! Maybe he can talk to my hubby and get him to do that, too! 😉 Great post, and I am looking forward to the FAQs!
XOXO
Deanna

Your words and photos are so amazing-my boys(3yrs and 7 months)are both in bed–I want to go up and cuddle them both right now! You truly do inspire!
You are hilarious. I want to be you. This line was perfectt: Take that, Martha (not that I don’t love you). I see your drill bit and your Peruvian wool and I raise you a spool o’ wire and some plastic beads. Yeah.
wow! I’ve been following your blog for some time now.. I came across it and decided that I would read from the very very beginning and I did! With every post you really do inspire me. Lainey is gorgeous and she seems like she has to most beautiful soul. Nella is just absolutely precious! Her little smile is heart warming. I look at your little ones and think that maybe one day I can be as blessed as you are and have children of my own that I can be so proud of. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for every post for every comment. I love reading your blog!
Haha! Love how you said “drunk drawer”. Maybe a typo… but maybe not! From this day forward in our house it will be the DRUNK DRAWER!
Miss Deetly Mommy, lol…Ohhh Yes Nella’s smiles and giggles are surely worth all the deetling and hand clapping, I love how she looks at you with her eyes so big, almost saying; what crazy nutty thing ya gonna do today MOM …lol …just kidding really …*winks* …and when you say at the end that “you are soooo cute, and her serious look comes back, as if to say, well Mom I won’t say what I think of you …giggles …No but seriously, she is soo loving you in the looks she gives you, so much, she is concentrating so hard on what you are doing, and what your gonna do next, she is soo just loving you up with them eyes …priceless…Now I wonder if Daddy has to do silly deetlings too to get His smiles ?…
Love You, all of Ya’s, but especially, the lil giggling one and the lil singing spidder one too…
Deborah the Canadian Nurse
The book is lovely and the videos are priceless! You are blessed.

love LOVE your blog. Nella’s birth story brought me here but it’s your life and words that keep me anxiously waiting for more. Thanks for being so inspirational. Tonight I took my camera to the ice cream shop with us. You’ve inspired me to capture SO much more of our lives and breathe in every moment with my precious littles and for that I could never thank you enough.
Omg, that video of Nella…I wanted to bite her head off. PRECIOUS!!!!
I love your blog, I love your pictures – you have inspired me to take more pictures, and you have also inspired me to get more out of life. I too was brought here by Nella’s birth story – what a beautiful family you have.
I heard a song today and thought of you and your blog – Sarah McLachlan (Loving you is easy). I often have your blog up in the background while I am working, so I can listen to the music you have chosen so perfectly. (I also refresh to see if you have updated).
I look forward to your posts, and sometimes ‘save’ them for a relaxing coffee/reading event. I do not have kids yet, but have been trying for what seems like forever. My entire world has changed since reading your blog, and I often find myself just saying ‘It’s OK’ now. So THANK YOU for that.
Love the books, and I can not wait to see sweet Nella’s first one. Please do write that book you talked about, and please continue to inspire all of us with your stories. (And please do put an FAQ section!)
I love Nella’s little smile. I love that picture of Lainey, with her bracelet looking all “another picture, come on already”. I love junk drawers. I love having anyplace that I can just shove random things without feeling guilty about it! And I love Brett being Bobby Flay! Yeah for you!
all lovely pics, of course!
but I have to say, the best is daddy and his baby girl in the last pic! priceless!!!
OK, Kathy1898…a line was crossed with “I wanted to bite her head off.” We are quite accepting of “I want to chew on those cheeks” and can even handle, “I could just eat her up” but anyone wanting to bite her head off we are filing for personal protection orders…just kidding. It’s Friday, folks, kick out the jams!
Thank you for your posts, Kelle! I love reading what you and your family are up to. I’m also very excited that you will be posting FAQ’s about the photo book, cameras, etc. I look forward reading all of that.
I love the junk drawer. I think every household has to have one. I have such a love/hate relationship with mine. I could easily empty everything out and find a home for the items, but that drawer is just part of our house.

Your blog brings so much joy!! Sweet baby Nella is so very precious, and Ms. Lainey is quite the beauty herself!! I love reading about their adventures and seeing their beautiful pictures!! I’ve been wanting a special tattoo for my little guy (with a little something extra) for awhile now and just didn’t know what I wanted until I saw your beautiful necklace that your Dad gave you. I hope your not upset, but my husband used it for his inspiration and I now have a beautiful tattoo for my little rock star!!
Look how cute this video about kids with down syndrome.

I sometimes come back to your blog to read it a second time, sometimes a third, and well, shamefully, sometimes a fourth. Reading your words and viewing the pics of your sweet, little babes gives me a sense of peace and perspective.
I love that you are documenting her life through hardbound books. It’s something she will treasure when she gets older and that you will be looking upon when she’s at prom or out on a date and wonder where time has gone I’m sure!
Both of your daughters are as precious as ever, and are growing up so fast!!!
Keep doing the wonderful job you are doing with them! 🙂
<3
Hi Kelle–I love this blog so much! Not only do I love reading it, but now I put it on for the music. I’m a SAHM here in Naples and my friends and I are addicted to your blog. We joke and say if we ever saw you at the park, (which we frequent a lot),we’d think you were a celebrity and wouldn’t know what to do, hahaha. You are so inspiring! Tomorrow is my 31st b-day and we’re headed out to get my first “big girl” camera because of this blog. Have a great weekend. 🙂
Love love love your blog. I’m wondering about your picture wall…are they canvas? I love them. Would love to do something like that with some of my pictures.
Absolutely love checking in on your blog after learning of you from Rosie’s blog. Your photos capture the joy in your life in such beautiful, colorful images. You look like a glamour girl wearing your retro suit in the picture of you and Nella on the beach. Since you take song recommendations try this one: Ben Rector, After All. He’s one of my college age daughter’s favorites and I’m enjoying the many song she added to my computer.
Continued blessings and happiness to you all.
Shawn
She is beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this story, it’s wonderful, and you’re really good writing about it.
Love from Norway
Ah yes, the infamous junk drawer. Can’t live without it.
That is an incredibly beautiful child, by the way.

Your blog is beautiful.
Your pictures are beautiful.
Your daughters are beautiful.
YOU are beautiful.
I am in love with your blog, it’s so amazing. And when I read Nella’s birthstory, it was like I could feel what you felt. Obviously I can’t, I am only a child. But it was so.. Magical to read it! Keep on the good work, ’cause that’s enough.
Thank you, for giving me this. It’s really inspiring.
Oh good grief..I just cannot stop watching the “making of a smile” video. Brings back such memories.
I often wonder if our little ones are saying in their heads “I wonder what dumb thing I can make mommy or daddy do today to make me laugh…”
Love Lainey’s version of Itsy Bitsy Spider. Just precious!
Thank you for sharing your JOYS!

Your blog inspires me to keep a positive outlook even when it seems impossible. Where did you order the beautiful scrapbook from? I am inspired to catch up on my photo albums after seeing it!!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful life with us!
