Halloween Costume Memory Lane

October 23, 2015 By Kelle

With Halloween one week away, I thought it would be fun to do a memory lane costume post. I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to gather all the photos considering the years span out on several different drives. I started making Halloween cards that we mail out to family every October back in 2009, and realized I missed one year–2011. Our 2013 Halloween card file is on a drive that got corrupted, so a picture of the card is all I have. But here we are…7 years of Halloweens.

I think dressing up should happen more than once a year. Looking back on all these makes me all excited for next week.

…and some more costume fun from an eHow costume article I did last year.

…and finally this year. I asked Lainey if maybe she’d like to have everyone do their own thing this year and thought for sure she’d be all over Taylor Swift or, I don’t know, anything that involved buying something from Justice. But she wanted a group thing again. I suggested woodland creatures after seeing a gorgeous fawn face painting idea, but she wanted farm animals. Actually she wanted to be a cow but couldn’t find a cow costume she liked so pig it is. Nella loves the chicken costume–flapping her wings in particular. And Dash, dear God, won’t be holding that metal rake for long.

Well these are some of the best costumes I have ever seen. The family circus one made me laugh really obnoxiously and I’m in a public place with lots of people judging. They would laugh too if they were seeing these. Ahhh, so much joy in these photos, it can’t help but rub off on me????

Ahhh, how cute!!! You know I love this one! Especially Nella the chick! 🙂 You should get an FFA jacket to wear when you guys go trick-or-treating hahaha 😀

Also, I cracked up at Brett in that family circus picture! Is he a carnie? The mullet wig is so funny!

I wish I could get all of my kids to dress in a theme. One year I wanted to do Snow White and the 7 dwarfs…but no one wanted to. The bigger kids, once they get to be age 8, 9, 10 and beyond usually want to dress up as their friends do, or whatever the “in” character is that year. Such a bummer. You have some excellent costume memories!!

This post is so fun and I cannot believe Dash is getting so big! It’s so fun realizing how long I’ve been following your blog! These costumes are great. My girls are dinosaurs at my oldest daughters request (her sister is too little to argue but seems to love her costume so that’s good! Haha). Great post! 🙂

Oh, my goodness, I’ve followed you for years but this is the first time I’ve commented – I just laughed so hard, I spat coffee over my phone. “And Dash, dear God, wont be holding that metal rake for long.” Possibly the funniest, most heartfelt, throwaway, ‘I’m a mum of a wild boy’ comment that I’ve ever read. You’re coping admirably with a boy, Mrs Hampton, you lipsticked glamour babe, you. Keep up the good work – they stop climbing and destroying things. Eventually. 🙂

Hi Kelle! Love your girls (and your boy 🙂 I really can’t say how much your photography and watching your little ones grow has filled me with joy. Your blog was the one that made me realize DS wasn’t something to be feared and how we should celebrate every unique person! I ran across an Instagram account featuring two beautiful little girls with DS that reminded me of Nella and I wanted to share. I don’t know this family but I feel like deep down Nella, Bailey, and Abby are all soul sisters. So much love and joy from an extra chromosome! http://instagram.com/cjpics

I always love your costumes but have to say the idea of Fraulein Maria sings to me! No pun intended! If only I could talk my 5 year old into this…maybe next year. I will spend the next year bombarding her with Sound of Music to make it more likely.

Oh my goodness! I love that you do a family theme every year. This is my new tradition. (At least w/ the kids….I have yet to con hubby into dressing up, maybe next year.) Happy Halloween!

Aw, this was an extremely nice post. Taking the time and actual effort to create a really good article… but what can I say…
I put things off a lot and never manage to get nearly anything done.
