Friday Faves…and a Popina Swimsuit Giveaway

March 8, 2014 By Kelle

Happy Friday, Friends.

The babies are in bed, and there’re two new episodes of Impractical Jokers we’ve been saving to watch tonight.

So favorites this week:

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
The Humans of New York IG feed.  Especially this one.
Kelly Corrigan’s new book, Glitter and Glue.  I can’t put it down.
The word serendipity.  I like to say it with a British accent.
Family Bed making a comeback.
Hitting the beach tonight for the perfect combination of blue sky and crashing waves and low tide and happy kids and God high-fivin’ from the clouds.

The boy and the tiny hairs on the back of his head that are teasing me with the possibility of curls.

And Friday.  Friday’s my favorite.

This week’s contributions:

Over at BabyZone, I’ve collected some of our favorite made-up vocabulary phrases for things parents can understand in Baby Balderdash.  Do you know what Ronald McDonald Feet are? Ever accomplished The Italian Job with your kids?  You’ll know what I’m talkin’ about.

And over at eHow, I’m sharing  10 Ways to Get Fab Family Photos With Your Phone –little tips you can start using to create beautiful images using just your phone (and get them off that phone!  print them, display them, frame them!)

And now a little present for you.
I’ve been a huge fan of Popina swimsuits now for three years, and every year they’ve joined with ETST to offer our readers a giveaway.  Timed appropriately for spring break, they’re back this year with another swimsuit giveaway for you.  Specializing in retro swimwear, Jantzen swimsuits and Seafolly swimsuits, Popina has never failed me in delivering well-fitting (ahem–booty-hugging) adorable swimsuits that wear well and hold up in countless pool and beach dates.  Feeling Ester Williams-esque?  Leave a comment sharing the last kind thing someone did for you, and we’ll pick one winner to receive a free Popina swimsuit, reader’s choice.  Leave some sunshine, take some sunshine.
Comments will be closed Sunday evening (4.9) at 9 p.m EST

This giveaway is sponsored by Popina Swimwear.

Thrifted Sisters returns next week.
Now off to watch inappropriate humor.  Happy Friday!

My coworker came over to me and out of no where gave me a hug. He said you are looking really good. (He’s like a dad to me and knows I’ve been working on loosing weight) Then proceeded to ask if that was okay/appropriate in turn I burst out laughing and said it was just fine and thank you. I’ve been working my butt off and just when I thought no one was noticing and i was getting down on myself he said that. It made my whole day…actually week!

I am a teacher, and yesterday was hit midday with a stomach bug. The school quickly arranged a sub and the teacher across the hall made copies and relayed sub plans as I ran out of the building yesterday and stayed home today to recoup! I was so thankful to not have to worry about my little first graders while I was sick–they were in great hands 🙂

I try to recognize the little everyday kind things- no matter how small, because our world runs on these little moments. People don’t always do things like that anymore- and I thanked him many times and it made my day. So much that I made sure I paid it forward with extra kindness to others for the rest of the day. I burst into tears when they told me! And the crazy thing is on the way to take him to school that morning I was actually questioning my faith in God and my life. And then bam! I walk in the door and they tell me the good news! I never prayed and thanked God so hard in my life 🙂

Two ladies got into an accident on the Turnpike during my commute home from work and were stuck in the left lane (no shoulder). Hundreds of cars passed, but no one stopped to offer help. I don’t want to be a hero, I just want people to know that they are loved and cared about. That they aren’t invisible. So I stopped and did as much as I could before the police showed up. I kinda of love showing people Jesus without saying His name (is that bad?).

My 4 year old… We’ve had a rough few weeks. She has been driving me to the brink of my sanity at times. She is an intense boundary pushing, sensory seeking genius. She takes glee in pushing buttons and scientifically studying the most effective ways to drive her sisters nutty.
But with this intensity comes a lot of fun stuff too, she is often dancing around singing her way through the room. Today it was a Daniel Tiger song “Thank You, for every thing you do. thank You! For everything you doo.”
She came over and hugged my leg, “Thank You for all you do for me Mommy.”
I struggle, I often feel invisible… That sincere Thank You was exactly what I needed.

i had no clue it was worth anything.

a friend messaged me and told me that i was selling it for way to low. she said it would be a great deal for $200 for just the camera alone..

Shes aware of why i am selling this camera
and its to help pay for cost of our trip to Vancouver BC Children’s Hospital for my son jacks upcoming surgery on the 13th.

she could have just took advantage of me like 7 other people are trying to do including a couple of friends knowing my situation but she let me no and told me to sell it for more.

I found this to be incredibly kind and heart warming.

im so glad she cared enough to tell me and not just message me and ask if she could buy it herself.

It wasn’t big, it wasn’t dramatic, but when my girlfriend offered to hold the baby so I could sit and enjoy a hot cup of tea, start to finish, I was touched. I have become accustomed to drinking cold tea in stolen sips here and there, so this was such a kind gesture!

I always admire the Popina swimwear so I HAD to comment. Last kind thing someone did for me…yesterday I had to help my sister give up their family cat to the humane society. Due to my sisters health issues they could no longer care for her. As an animal lover I was sad about having to do this, but the adoption counselor at the humane society was SO amazing and made us feel confident the cat would be in compasionate hands that would do their best to find the cat a new home. She was so understanding and wonderful and went out of her way to make us feel happy. So nice.

My mother in law prayed with me the whole time, said a few Hail Mary’s and was my beacon of hope. And, God Bless, baby’s head and spine are perfect! Today, while shopping with my kids (age 11, 5 and 2) at the grocery store an older woman said the nicest thing to me. My oldest was nagging me for Reece’s Puffs, my middle was whining about my oldest looking at her funny, and my toddler had pulled a box of Lucky Charms off the shelf while I was dealing with the other two and had ripped the top off. I was ready to lose it and do the whole “FINE! NO GROCERIES FOR ANYONE!” pissed off stomp to the car with crying and/or screaming kids in tow when above mentioned older woman came up from behind me and put her hand on my shoulder. She said to me (I’m paraphrasing ’cause I can’t recall the specifics) “Oh mama, it’s okay. Someday soon you won’t remember this and someday far from now they’ll only remember how brave their mama was to take all of them out into the world at once.” Instead of the usual nasty glares or under-the-breath parenting critiques I’m used to (being a mom is hard!) she decided to give me encouragement. Her calm demeanor and soft smile managed to draw all of my children’s attention to something other than driving me crazy. That woman was the cat’s pajamas.

She’s a huge flirt waving and giggling with people, you know like DS kids are, ROCKSTARS! But everyone was so kind.. Talking and playing so she was entertained during the long line. Then when this woman, another customer, saw I was getting my coffee, she put the sleeve on and handedit to me. Then an older gentleman got up from his seat and opened the door for us. I got to my car and cried. Happy tears. Those kind acts, will stick with me forever! And now we joke that our Ella is a local celebrity:)

A gentleman at a table next to us saw my husband come in wearing his Army uniform and bought our dinner to thank him for his service. We thanked him and he told us we have a beautiful family and thanked my husband again. It really made our night and brought some happy tears on the drive home.

A week ago today I became a nanny again. I was in sales and after the passing of my grandma and grandpa recently. I rethought things. I knew I needed to go back to what I loved. What I was meant to do. My first week as a revamped nanny has come to a close on the first weeks of so many. When I leave today. The oldest little girl who I’ve questioned if she was really going to like me says “Jess, I love you. I hope you are our forever nanny. Because, well, you’re a really wonderful person” kids are honest. Good and bad. After the past month, coming to the realization of the big change I needed to make. After losin the grandparents that raised me. Hearing this made everything better. I know I’m in the right place and I couldn’t be happier.

I tried going back and forth several times, but couldn’t get unstuck. Then out if nowhere a young couple came towards us and asked if we’d like some help. They pushed the van and quickly got us unstuck. That just made my day! Something as simple as a little help from this nice couple made this Momma go from frustrated, to extremely happy! 🙂

About a month after we moved, I received the most beautiful photo book from my best friend back home. She had gone through the whole hospital, all four floors, taking photos of all the nurses, doctors, everybody so that I could have that memento with me in NY. That book got me through some pretty lonely days and I am forever grateful for such a sweet gesture from my BFF.

My son was just diagnosed with Autism. We have had a lot of great advice and love given. But the nicest gift was when a good friend told my husband and I how awesome we were and how lucky our son was to be in our family. She didn’t do anything special or give us anything monetary, but she gave us so much and we felt so blessed. Oh the power of good friends and positive words!!

The last kind thing someone did for me was getting a card delivered out of the blue from a wonderful friend. She told me how much she appreciated and loved having me as a friend and how much she could trust me and know that I was there for her. It brought happy tears to my eyes as I know she is going through a lot right now and took the time to write me.

People are always leaving things at the coffee shop I work at, so when an older woman came looking for her daughter’s glasses, I jumped into my usual search and rescue mode. When we couldn’t find them, I recommends other resources, like the center’s lost and found. She grabbed my hand and thanked me for being so sweet and so beautiful. It made my day!

Then, she pulled me down and hugged me around my neck and then took my hand, told me to get up and walked me by my hand to go play in the playroom.

Aw I love this question. My three girlies and I were walking home from our weekly Friday breakfast date this morning. It had started raining and one of our former neighbors drove past us, waved, and then backed up a minute later to see if we wanted a ride home! I know she’s busy and doesn’t have kids–in fact we always tried to be on our best, southern-proper behavior when around her. To have her think about it and back up and offer to let my sticky wet kids into her pristine car blew me away!

I was at the Dollar Tree with my 5 yr old and a wonderful “Grandma” came over and gave my daughter a $1 and told my daughter to pick something special out that she wanted. She told us how much she loved my daughters name (Ivy) and was just the happiest, most positive beautiful woman. We thanked her profusely and my daughter happily picked out a flashing clover necklace to wear on St. Patricks Day. Thank you kind stranger! You really made our day by offer up a little bit of sunshine 🙂 Later that night as we discussed what happened my daughter said she would like to do the same thing for someone else and that next time she is at the Dollar Tree she will give another child one of the dollars from her piggy bank. I couldn’t be more proud ♥

One year ago my husband quit his day job to pursue his dream career full time. He travels all the time now and he’s gone a lot. He knows gifts are my love language and that means having a tangible expression of his love. As a year long anny gift for him traveling he gave me a necklace with the outline of tree branches. The branches go in different directions and he said “we are one tree, our branches might go in different directions but we are still connected and growing together”. Cue tears.

Also, we had the opportunity to travel to Florida together. We often stay in host homes while on the road. A woman at a church allowed us to stay in her home and she was going to stay with a friend. When we got there, we realized she lived in a one bedroom studio in someone’s back yard. She was a single mom to two kids. I soon realized she was a recovering alcoholic because her room was covered in prayers and posters surrendering her will and power. Her generosity and hospitality blessed us but so did her amazing spirit and desire for not only sobriety but a full rich life.

Family, friends and neighbors have all pitched in to watch my littles so I can go to my appointments. Just today my niece took my kids so I could go. I love taking the time to appreciate the small moments of kindness. The kind that can easily go unnoticed. Today it was simply a woman letting me merge in front of her on the highway. I live in a crowded city and I’m kind of a foul mouthed person when it comes to traffic. Add to that two unhappy and tired kids in the back, and I was stressed. So to have this woman wave me in front of her, acknowledging that she’s not the only one who has somewhere to be, and she doesn’t mind waiting a car length longer…it warmed my heart

I took my special needs class to see the movie Frozen today and the movie theater we alway go to changed their prices but their website was very misleading about it and led me to believe that the price for lunch was the same as it’s been for the last 8 years that we’ve gone (it’s one of those places where you get to eat your meal and watch a movie at the same time). A couple very wonderful adults who were with us were so very kind and help me out by giving me enough money so that we could make up the difference between what the school gave me, what the kids brought and the actual cost and the kids got to see the movie.
It normally wouldn’t have been a problem but I had forgotten my credit card at home and I don’t normally carry that much cash. In my almost 9 years of teaching I haven’t seen all my kids enjoy a movie as much as they did today.

I’m 24 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I have chronic hypertension, impending preeclampsia, and just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Last night, after lining up all of my medicine and taking it, I couldn’t help but fall into bed and just cry. “This is so much harder than I thought it would be…not the being pregnant, but the being scared. I’m so terrified that every single decision I make is hurting our baby girl,” I sobbed into my husband’s chest. And he held me, and let me cry, and just kept telling me how much he loved me and how perfect our baby was and how I was doing everything right. It was just what this hormonal mama-to-be needed to hear.

My three year old and I both came down with the flu last night (fever, body aches…basically the all around yucks). Neither of us slept at all last night between the sweats and aches. After my 9 month old baby got up this morning I stumbled into her room to nurse her and then handed her off to my husband (informing him in the process that I hadn’t even been up to changing her yet, so he better hop to it). My husband then watched both kids while also working from home so I could sleep another 3 hours. This is not only the kindest thing that anyone has done for me lately, but it is also a prime example of why my husband rocks! Love your blog by the way– just discovered it the other day!

Hey! I’m a barista at my local Target Starbucks, and I’m often amazed by the kindness of other employees who don’t even work in my area, or know me. I had a long backed up line and was stuck doing things solo because someone had called off. An employee in the Verizon Mobile part of the store ordered an iced drink, but I told her it would be an even longer wait because my ice bin was empty. While I made the other drinks that were ordered before hers, she filled my entire ice bin for me! She used her break time to help me, which was more kindness than I would ever expect. I hope to get her back sometime.

2 weeks ago exactly, we got broken into our house while I was quickly running errands. One of our good friend found out and that night gave us a surprise visit with food and a chocolate banana milkshake for myself (he knew it is my current pregnancy craving). I couldn’t believe how thoughtful that was and really made that day better in spite of what had happen.

My cherished houseguests from TN, stayed recently with us, in Iowa. We have had seemingly endless amounts of snow, which their kids have rarely been able to relish. The kids were outside enjoying the white fluffy wonder that blanketed our country landscape, and it started to snow…again. Big, slow, beautiful snowflakes. I rushed outside with my camera(and 25 year old, hooptie of a tripod) to capture their joy. I must have muttered a bit on my way out of the door, because the day after my houseguests left…a brand spanking new tripod arrived on my doorstep! Love my friends!

I was walking into the grocery store and saw an older woman pulling a supply cart overflowing with grocery bags to her apartment across the street. The bags kept falling off and she could not move more than few steps without having to assemble them again. I walked over and asked if I could help her get home. She was so surprised that someone wanted to help her. It broke and blessed my heart at the same time. I put all of her overflowed bags on my arms and pulled her cart all the way home for her.

I babysit a family of 3 amazing kids and tonight, the middle child – a boy – had a weird wheezy sound happening in his chest. I jumped into pretend mom/nurse mode and immediately gave him a nebulizer treatment. After he was finished, he said to me, “I hated that. But you make me feel safe. Thank you.” That right there is what soul burstin’ love feels like. He always makes me feel like I’ll be the best mom someday, and that is the kindest thing anyone could ever do for me.

My 16 month old loooves raspberries and sticks her finger in the top hole of them to eat them. Yesterday she was enjoying a bowl of berries and popped one in her mouth, took it out, gave it a good hard stare, licked it, and then waddled over to me and stuck the slimy, mushy berry right in my mouth. It was the most adorable, sweetest moment of sharing to be a part of. It made my day!

The last kind thing someone did for me…it’s gotta be my mom, yesterday. We went to a semi-annual children’s consignment sale and she bought everything we picked out for my 1 year old son. 🙂 And she also bought lunch for us at Chick-fila. It was really nice of her since my husband and I don’t have a ton of money right now. Super thankful for her 🙂

Secondly, I teach Mother’s Day out at a school a town over from ours and we run with their school’s schedule. Because of weather this week, we were our the first few days, but they went back a day before us leaving me no care for my older child who is first grade. We’ve had to move out while we do the repairs ourselves, in an effort to keep costs down. I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of our friends & family during this time… From folks providing a place to stay, to taking our kiddos (ages 2 & 4) on adventures so we can work, I’m so grateful for these people in my life, and the enormity of their kindness & generosity. Such a reminder to cherish all the little blessings and to choose gratitude and joy beyond my circumstance.

It was shaped into a rough square like shape, hard as a rock, and wrapped in white printer paper. He presented it to me proudly exclaiming he made me a square at school. He gently said Momma it’s very special isn’t it? Yes son, it is very special. I’m a stay at home wife to an active duty service member, serving overseas. Although I have the privilege of staying home, my husband gets up and makes my coffee every morning and spends a little while just enjoying my company before he has to go off to work. As if that isn’t enough, he always asks if my cup needs topped off before he leaves. What a sweet man I have been blessed with.

Amazing how those small things totally changed my mood for the week and outlook moving forward.

Just two days ago I piled my four babes into the van for a mini road trip to a dear friends house two hours away. Of course before hitting the highway I zipped through our local coffee shop drive through to pick up a coffee. When I pulled up the the window to pay I was told that my coffee was already paid for by a kind stranger. I was totally blessed by the thoughtfulness of the mystery man in the silver van, his $2.45 kind gesture made my day.

I had a miscarriage recently at 11 weeks. It was devastating and everyone seemed to move on quickly except for me. When we put together a grandmother basket for a woman at work whose son was having a baby, my co-worker came to me and said that she knew that was hard for me as she knew I was missing my baby. She didn’t know it at the time, but what she said was HUGE to me. Because she REMEMBERED and acknowledged my child when the rest of the world seemed to forget her. It was the little insignificant thing to her that meant the VERY MOST to me.

The CASA worker (child advocate) went above and beyond her job to make my sons adoption finalized just 2 days later. My husband and I are the only grandparents in close proximity to these two boys, ages 3 years and 6 months, and we get called upon a lot when a sitter, or advice, is needed. No thanks is really needed, because the love I receive from these little boys fills me to overflowing, but I have to say, when that(real) grandpa thanked this(step)grandma with such kindness and sincerity, it nearly made her cry.

Last week my son (who’s allergic to peanuts and eggs) went to a birthday party for a little girl and boy in his nursery school class. One of the moms made the birthday cake for her daughter egg and nut free so he could have it too! Even though this was really something nice for him, it was so nice for me to see him enjoying the same cake that everyone else had!

The girls of our family always take our tree trimmings to the dump…in 115 degrees Phoenix summers. Last time, we took 3500 pounds…we’ve been doing it for years, and we’re always the only girls there, but no man has ever offered to help. Last time we went, a young Hispanic man came over and unloaded our entire truck and trailer for us!! We tried to pay him, but he wouldn’t let us. It made me cry!!!

My cousin, a pilot driving to his base in Kansas City from Houston, broke down outside of Dallas (where we live). We just had a new baby five weeks ago, and when he called me to pick him up, I panicked: how would I get to my cousin in an hour when my baby will need to eat in 30 minutes and had just laid down for a nap? I quickly called a sweet lady from our church that we have become friends with, despite our 30+ age difference. She was checking out in the grocery store and immediately stopped what she was doing to come watch our son – for free – while I drove to pick up my cousin and take him to the airport to catch a flight to Kansas City. And, when I came home, she told my husband and me to pick a date night and she would watch our son. It was so sweet I just broke down in tears amazed at the generosity of others, even despite age differences.

Recently, I had someone pay for my daughter to continue her ballet classes, as she overheard that it just wasn’t in my budget, and she thinks my daughter has real talent. I was overwhelmed, and tried to refuse, because of PRIDE, but she insisted.

My daughter and I baked her cookies, and it was a wonderful lesson in both grace and saying thank you. <3

My friends and I truly value small acts of kindness. Whether it be toward each other or strangers, we always make it a goal.

The funny thing about kindness is it can be small, like a cup of coffee, or it can be big… I go to a small school in Florida, less than 600 students. (it’s called Florida College) Having such a small student body makes it possible to have personal relationships with professors and their families. I’ve struggled with anxiety this past year, and one of my Bible professors (and the preacher at my church) has been there for me the whole time. He and his wife are always willing to have me over and I always love the opportunity to spend time with them and their 5 children.
The fact that they obviously care so much is the epitome of kind. They are the true essence of kind.

I ventured out to the library with my son and my new baby who was supposed to be napping. Of course she woke up about five minutes after we got there and started crying inconsolably. After a few minutes of me trying to calm her down, and her becoming increasingly hysterical and half the people in the library giving us dirty looks it was clearly time to go. So I set about trying to convince my son we had to leave (he was not convinced), while tossing random books into the stroller, and trying to soothe my screaming newborn all at once. I felt in that moment like I was failing as a mother. Enter kind hero librarian. She heard baby crying from across the library and sensing I might need help she swooped in to the rescue. She took my stack of random books and checked them out for me. Then she took my sad toddler into her office and gave him a thomas the tank engine that had been sitting in her lost and found for a while and told him he was a pretty cool big brother. I was a hot mess, everyone was starring at me, and she told me “that’s what this stage is all about”. I don’t know why, but that made me feel better. She brought such brightness into my otherwise frazzled day.
Long story short: She taught me, my son, and the people around her a small lesson in kindness. Everyone needs a librarian like that.

I have worked with children for 8 years now, majority of which have been with children who have special needs. The most amazing and kindest things have happened to me working with these precious children. Just recently a little boy (born with autism) I’m a personal aide for gently looked me in the eye one day and said “Miss Aubwee you pretty” with a sweet grin on his face he was so sincere. Little did he know I was having a bad day and when he said that to me I was remined why I work with children born with disabilites because not only am I able to be their friend teach them and help them reach their full potential but they bless my life and teach me more than I could ever give them. They teach me about the pure love of christ which is loving everyone no matter what. They teach me that no matter what everything is possible. They teach me to always see the good in everybody. Their loving spirits fill me with joy and happiness!

Thanks for the giveaway Kelly, I’ve been smitten over your swimsuit for a long time.

Last kind thing someone did for me was this past weekend when I was sick, my husband laid out my pajamas for me on the bed while I was in the shower. Included were 2 shirt options, both long and short sleeve, depending on how cold I was, and his pair of fleece bottoms that I love to steal. Made me sigh at the sweetness of that man.

During a snowstorm a few weeks ago my husband was on a business trip so I had to shovel us out alone. Once the baby was down for a nap, I got started and was soon joined by my neighbor who heard me out there. She’s recently widowed so well within her rights to not be shoveling. We took turns checking on the baby, clearing out cars, and sharing stories. (I promised her that as soon as my son is old enough, he’d be out there shoveling her walkways!)

I had to get up super early one day last week to take my husband to the airport. The kids were with me and I had promised them breakfast through a drive thru if they could come without complaining about the early hour. They did it, so we swung through McDonald’s. There was a construction worker truck that pulled in behind me, so I paid for his meal too. The kids thought it was the greatest thing ever. I’m hoping to act out a ton of “Pay it Forwards” with my children, teaching them kindness and good will.

There have been numerous kind things done for me this year. The last was a friend taking me rock climbing. We packed our 3 year old girls and her infant into her beat up suburban on a spur of the moment phone call. I didn’t expect what happened when I walked into the place. Namely that my friend and the cute guy at the front desk would be giving me a brief introduction to tying a knot that would support my own body weight or I would fall to my death. This was followed by another lesson called: if you don’t do this right, your friend will fall to her death and you will have to adopt her four children. All this was followed by a test. Did I mentioned I had not brushed my hair that day? I had not! Then my friend took my life in her hands and coaxed me 25 feet up a wall: my feet strapped into her climbing shoes. Then, more amazing still, she scrambled like a bug up 60 feet and came down with her life in my hands. That’s trust. Between climbs there was a baby to love and little girls to check on. I never would have had this experience without her. Now she’s woven into my memory of figure eight knots and the lingo of the wall. Climb on, adventure moms!

The most amazing kind deed I’ve known was done when my husband was on furlough from his government job. We had no money coming in and bills to pay. As the weeks stretched on and he was still not back at work, we began to panic. One day there came a knock at our door. Someone had slid an envelope underneath. On the outside was written “For your because I can” and inside was $1000 cash. Kind deeds just because “I can” are amazing gifts because they aren’t “I have to” they are “I want to”. 🙂

Afterwards we stopped for gas and a slurpee, and my 3 year old spilled the entire slurpee on the floor on the way to the register. The lady at the register cleaned it up and then said, “I’m going to buy his slurpee for him.” There are still nice people out there!

My best friend from college days, sent one to us by surprise…right in the midst of me going through lots of testing with my current baby in utero (baby 4). Lots of testing, fears and concerns and prayers and the King Cake came in the midst of that. Loved. That’s how I felt.

The (within the year) last (amazingly) kind thing someone did for me was when I called my dear friend Maggie, in tears because the baby wouldn’t stop crying, and I was suffering PPD. She and her husband had their day off, but she told me to drive to her house right that second. Her husband took my sweet (still crying) baby and she talked to me and let me cry and get it out. I will absolutely never forget her kindness in that moment, when I was feeling like everyone was so far away or too busy working to help me through.

I’ve just finished my first report cards, and got a wonderful e-mail from a parent of a little girl in my class. She not only told me that I’m doing okay, but that since I’ve started her Daughter has so much more confidence and shows a more positive attitude to life and herself. These are not curriculum objectives, I have no lesson plans for this, and it was so nice to know that regardless of what we get done in a day or what I test them on, I’m helping kids see their potential. I’m so grateful for that e-mail!

My husband made spaghetti for me and brought it to me in bed when I wasn’t feeling well. It’s such a blessing to feel so well taken care of! 🙂

My husband was going to be gone for the day so he decided to clean the house for me while I went on a run. 🙂 It was awesome.

My husband took the kids out for a bike ride and then picked up a pizza so I didn’t have to cook!

I was rushed to get to an event yesterday, so I threw on a scarf that I had purchased earlier in the day for this event. When I got there, another guest quietly pulled me aside and informed me that the price tag was still attached. It kept me from walking around with it all night long!

Yesterday, my sixteen year old nephew gave us 40 dollars towards our adoption costs despite saving money for an upcoming trip himself!

Someone secretly bought me a meal at IHOP. It was even more delicious afterwards.

So many people have done so many kind things for me recently, some because my husband has moved out of the state for work (I’m following soon) leaving me with a 2 year old, an old house to sell, and a goofball of a dog. But my most favorite kindness was when I got a flat tire with a dead phone late at night on my way to pick up my kid from “date night babysitting at daycare.” I knocked on the door of the driveway I’d pulled into, and the most kind and lovely people opened their home to me while I used their phone and waited for AAA. I bought them some nice chocolate to thank them, but really, I can’t thank them enough for restoring my faith in humanity.

We had a disastrous plumbing issue last night and our wonderful neighbors gave up their movie night to help fix a broken pipe. A) They are plumbing geniuses B) They saved us so much money. I’ve thought about their generosity all day today.
