Hello There, Random

October 6, 2011 By Kelle

Sometimes when I speak, I talk fast–barely pausing to take breaths and certainly not breaking at obvious places for thought consumption. I’m realizing the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree because my girl’s mind gives her mouth a run for its money. When Lainey tells stories, they often come out in an enthusiastic string of words–a race of thoughts that get jumbled and are finally interrupted with the longest, most dramatic inhalation you’ve ever heard. Like a kid who’s been under water too long and breaks the surface with a theatrical gasp for breath.
And then she continues on.

Photobucket

This is all to say this post is me speaking fast. Breath will come at the end.

*****

“Mama, come look! Nella blows bubbles!” Lainey was holding a dripping bubble wand this morning and motioning me to follow her toward where she and Nella were sitting by the front door. And I recognized her enthusiasm as the same exaggerated kind that delivered the news the other day that Nella said SophieandLatte. “Perfectly,” as Lainey described, wide-eyed. So I, of course, expect to walk in and pretend to be overly excited when really Lainey’s just very generous with her praise for her sister. But this time she was right. Sister purses her lips and gently blows when Lainey holds up the wand. Perfectly. Iridescent bubbles grow and float. And I am laughing and clapping and praising not only the little sister but the big one whose lavish praise means something, you know?

Photobucket

Bravo, little bubble blower.

I got super twitchy tonight. I realized I hadn’t had alone time in over a week and suddenly the walls of my house were closing in. And I don’t know if Brett was just overly understanding or if maybe it was obvious I needed an hour, but I barely raised an eyebrow early this evening and he was all “Just go, babe.” I decide, five minutes out of my driveway, that the great mission of my outing will be finding the perfect sexy red for my lips. Because, even if you’ve found the perfect red for your lips, you should never give up the challenge of finding a better one. Got the meaning of life figured out? Great. Keep seeking. The joy lies in the search, KWIM?

I find what is the perfect red for the time being. At a make-up counter in Kohls, of all places–between one aisle of granny panties and one aisle of men’s polos that are eternally “on sale.” And I think this red is so fabulous that I generously smear my lips with it once I get to the car. We’re talking multiple layers of thick and sticky, and I am feeling sexy. So sexy that I walk in three more stores to run some errands and don’t realize until I get home that my teeth look like I just stepped out of the ring. I might as well have just scribbled on my teeth with a red Sharpie.

I still love this gloss though.

Photobucket
Within seconds of picking her up when I got home, Sister smiled, noticing my lip gloss, and tried to swipe it off.

Photobucket

*****

Insert random picture of Lainey in a moment of “Stop getting into my stuff.”

Photobucket

*****

The little Ginette doll my mom found when Lainey was a baby has made a comeback–and all the clothes my mom made for her.

Photobucket

My new favorite thing to do is sit and watch Nella attempt to dress this doll. It reminds me of these precious days, not so long ago.

Photobucket

And I have a feeling it won’t be long before Lainey comes running. “Mama, Nella dressed the doll all by herself…perfectly.”

Photobucket

Found this adorable talented girl yesterday after my cousin saw her on Nate Berkus. And her Instagram frame idea was so awesome, I printed 60 of my favorite phone dump photos today and am thinking how we’re going to transform her idea into something that works for us. To come, to come.

*****

I am in need of a deep inhalation.

But first.

My girl’s got moves.

Photobucket

Poor girl is aching to figure out this hula hoop thing. She throws that hoop and gyrates and nothing happens.

Photobucket

Soon. It will happen. Perfectly.

Photobucket

Tonight, under a clear blue Florida sky and entranced by fall’s preview breezes, I watched, smiling, as two people I love had a moment.

Photobucket

You can’t plan that. You can’t pose them. It’s just….magic.

Photobucket

He is humble and pretends it’s no big deal when I swoon.

*****

Loving our October breezes.

October’s going to be crazy for us. But good crazy. We’ll be in San Diego later this month for something I’m really excited about. Check out the Just BeCause campaign being launched by Infantino and Step 2 Toys. I’ll be guest shooting for them, and I couldn’t be more honored to be a part of this. They are supporting children of ALL abilities in an inspiring way. If you are in the SoCal area and are interested in your child being a part of the shoot, check out the casting call here. More to come.

*****

Finally, welcome back to a familiar friend now, Independent Scentsy Consultant, Jessica Clough, who returns for another month in sponsorship. Girlfriend’s got it on! She has me hooked, and this season’s just begging for candles and scents and the art of home. Jessica has done an amazing job communicating with her clients, and every time I get one of her cards in the mail with a new sample scent, I’m on line checking it out minutes later. Case in point: Autumn Stroll and Cozy Fireside. Contact Jessica at jessicaaclough@gmail.com about her specials.

Loving my new Bamboo Tali warmer.

Photobucket

’tis the season.

*****

It is time for deep inhalation. It will come in the form of cold sheets and warm babies.

Photobucket

Good Night. Happy Wednesday.

I just taught my 5 year old how to hula hoop on our Labor Day weekend vacation to Park City. They were having a big hula hoop thing on Main Street. The trick? Have her start with the hula hoop against her back and then swing it around. Griffin was so excited after I showed him that he taught Mia and she caught on and could get it to swing around a few times. Give it a try!

    Hey Kelle!
    Sweet post. :o)
BTW, I had researched ways to create some sort of wall art (eventually) with all of my morning school pix of the monkeys and came across this:
    http://printsgram.com/layouts.php
Of course, I haven’t been using Instagram for my a.m. shots, so I’ll have to do things the hard way, like in your attachment. But I would probably do some sort of triptych with the A3 size posters on this site if I had Instagram pix to work with. Much easier. Anyhoo, that’s my two cents.
(Perhaps we can all get together soon to take our crazies to see the new Muppet movie?)
    Talk soon.
    xo

Kelle…I had a baby Ginette doll…loved her! After all I am a baby from the 1950’s as well! I can’t remember if I gave her to Nici or not…will have to ask! When you mentioned the doll, I clicked back and discovered a whole new beautiful world of your blogging…preNella…I have some reading to do!

Oh, the fast talking….the need to get it all out….I know! When my Gabey was very little, he did the same thing (hhhmmm, wonder where he gets it?). And if we interrupted him or tried to finish his sentences, he would start ALL the way over. Precious.

*Bubble blowing baby! Amazing photo and HURRAY for little sister!

*Laughed a hearty out loud laugh at Swiper swiping at the gloss! And even louder at your sharpie image….hahahaha! Once again, your writing described it “perfectly”.

*Okay, lots of laughing today: Random pic of Lainey & quote–LOL!

*Looks like Nella plays so tenderly with her baby doll. Nora? Not so much. She’s a “poke-the-eye-out and throw her overboard” kind of pretend mommy.

*MAN! I need an iphone. Just so I can take “polaroid” pics and frame ’em! Coolest project ever. And I was just lying in bed the other night wondering if instagram pics could be printed at Costco. Thank you tons for the link!

It’s a sweet potato soup day today,
    Kelly πŸ™‚

Curse you, hula hoop! Curse you! You never were a friend of mine!

Still to this day I swear all of my hula hoops were “broken.” They never whirled around me as I expected them to.

Master it, Sweet Girl. Show it who is boss!

Oh, and also the red stripey top you are wearing with your red lipstick – simply smashing πŸ˜‰

Hi Kelle. Ever since a friend sent me the link to Nella’s birth story, to which I cried my eyes out, I’ve found myself periodically pouring through your blog and living vicariously through your super mom life! I’m not a mamma yet but I did just get engaged so maybe sometime in the near future I will be- but I just love your honesty, your impeccable knack for finding beauty in everything, and your creativeness. I’m a fellow Michigander myself, Traverse City, and can relate to adjusting to a life away from our humble Midwest upbringing as I now live in Oregon. I came across this article the other day and it made me think of you and little Nella so I thought I’d share it.

My mom had a doll like that when she was little and gave it to my sister (her first daughter) when she was little. The first day she had it my sister pulled out markers and scribbled all over it. From that day on my sister called her “Tattoo”!

Ha! Lainey is so cute with that hula hoop. I am in my late 30’s and just trying to get my hula hoop back on after many years with out it. πŸ˜‰ It is a good work out for the tummy. I have a long way to go there. Haha! And… I am in So. Cal., San Diego area. I answered the call. πŸ™‚ Wouldn’t that be a hoot to be picked out of the thousands. πŸ™‚

    Swiper, no swiping!

I loved hearing about Nella blowing bubbles perfectly. And to see Nella playing and kissing the doll. Ugh! Alex recently dragged out my Snoopy wardrobe and struggles to get that big dog dressed. And I laugh, remembering how many hundreds of hours I spent with that dog and his wardrobe.

Thanks for sharing those wonderful swooning, dramatic breath-taking moments of your girls.

And yet another reason why my next phone is going to be an Iphone.

You remind me so much of my mom (that’s a huge compliment!). While other moms were probably critical, thinking their housekeeping skills were far superior, all the kids wanted to play at my house. Now (no lie!) they are all her Facebook friends πŸ™‚

Also, I love Kohl’s cosmetic counter. I find myself there whenever those sweet $10 gift cards arrive in the mail. A little higher quality, IMO, than drugstore stuff but at a great price. I’ll keep it our secret….

Lainey is such a good big sister, teaching lil’ Nella all sorts of new things! Blowing bubbles is such a HUGE milestone! Chloe and I are still working on that skill, so maybe now is a good time to ask if I can borrow Lainey to teach her. HA! πŸ˜‰ So proud of both girls!

    Happy Weekend!

Just wanted to say that I love your blog. I love your birth story about Nella. I must admit as an OB/GYN, the words you wrote about when you found out about Nella are perfect and I have used them when I must tell a patient of some unexpected news about their new child. I know that they will have an incredible journey because of all that you share about your sweet Nella. Thank you.

Funny, I do the same thing when I talk, especially if I’m telling a story and yes, my daughter (she’s 20 now) does it too.

What an awesome big sister Laniey is. You can just feel the bond between them by looking at the pictures. They’ll always be best friends πŸ™‚

And I so wish I could rock the red like you. Love it.

I am not a fan of red lipstick on me. Or pink lipstick. Or any lipstick. I am not a pretty girl like you. I am plain.

    No lipstick for me.

Congratulations on all of the great things that are happening to you. Have fun in San Francisco.

LOVE the kite pictures with bare feet. Some things about Florida in the fall are fantastic.
