I Lied.

March 6, 2010 By Kelle

Some book pages I’ve been catching up on. I always order Lainey’s book at the end of April so she can have it for her birthday, so we’re almost done!

Some catch up on Lainey’s book:

***********************************************************

*************************************************************

*************************************************************

**************************************************************

**************************************************************

**************************************************************

And, a First Year Book has been started for the bunny:

**************************************************************

***************************************************************

For those who have asked, we make 12 x 12 hardcover books through Shutterfly (they’re affordable, fantastic and hold up to 100 pages), and I use an old program, Microsoft Digital Image Suite, to make my scrapbook pages. I don’t use a lot of Scrapbook stuff…just basically drop pictures in, arrange into a collage and throw some text in to keep it simple and time-manageable.

I can’t wait to watch my grown-up girls look through their books someday.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much for sharing your story us. I have an amazing little girl who has also routed us to Holland. She was born healthy and contracted Group B Strep Meningitis at 3 weeks old. She has a resulting brain injury. She is such an amazing little girl and has overcome so much.

Your blog reminds me to get out there and forget about my worries for today. I still have many (worries) but I’m learning that if I can let them go, even for a day, I have the life I always wanted.

The love you feel for your girls & family in general just radiates through your words and photos! I appreciate your honesty and it is refreshing. Your Lainey looks a lot like my Audrey. I look forward to more posts and the book that I hope to see on shelves soon. God Bless!

I love these pages–all about the pictures and your thoughts. Perfect. Thanks for sharing these pages. Loved seeing them.

And the best book you are making is not of pages and pictures, colors and collages–it is the book you are making with the tiny moments you frame with a smile or a tear, the little conversations where tiny lips form new words of wonder and those occasions where words aren’t even needed–hearts connect silently and sweetly. That’s the book I love most of all.
I want to read and relish that book’s every chapter. It will be richly illustrated with love and hope…I want to write in it too!

Your story continues to amaze me. I was especially intrigued by your post about going to Italy; I have two children with bipolar disorder and relate to being routed to Holland later in life by your child when you originally started in Italy. Your analogy put into words some feelings I have had for a very long time. Thank you for showing me the ways you move forward, a bit at a time. I’m beginning to learn to do the same. Blessings to you and your family.

Thank you so much for posting your story and sharing the pictures of your beautiful girls. I have two girls, too. My second was born only 12 days before sweet Nella. I read Nella’s birth story a few weeks ago with tears streaming down my cheeks onto my baby’s head. Since that day a very close family member discovered half way through her pregnancy that she, too, had a DS baby. She chose to terminate the pregnancy this week. My heart is broken for her and her baby. I wish I could have directed her to your blog before it happened. I tried, but I have no idea if she read it. Thank you for giving a beautiful face to Down’s Syndrome and being so honest with your emotions. No doubt God will use you to save little lives. I’ve enjoyed watching your Nella grow alongside my Isla already and will continue to do so. By the way, Nella is already much better at her “tummy time” than Isla!

    Hi Kelle,
Those pages are amazing and so is everything you post on this blog! I get so excited when I check in and see that there is a new post. I hope this doesn’t sound weird but I find myself wanting to know more about you. I feel like I know so much about your life now just from reading over the last few weeks but nothing about you before your had Lainey…your upbringing, where you grew up and went to school and how you met your husband, your wedding, your life before you had your girls, etc. Maybe you want to save all that info for when you write your book 🙂 but if not I’d love to see a little bio on the writer! (and I’m sure lots of other readers would too)

Also…how do you make the pictures on your blog so big? Why are mine just the boring little squares? I love how yours take up the whole page. All of your pictures are beautiful as are you and your daughters!

My daughter Abigail who also has ds who is 10 years old loves looking at the pictures of your daughters. We were talking about Nella and I asked her if she knew why Nella was special and she responded with ” 3 chromosones?” That is how I have explained things to her for she is pretty bright. She also wanted to know if Nella pinkies were crooked. Both of hers are and I have seen this in several other children that I have met.

    Just curious…

Your blog is so beautiful, every…single…day. The color, the composition, the sentiments, the words. Go you. You are the highlight of my Google reader.

I also want to say–never had a chance to comment yesterday on “Happy Pipe”–that you will always revisit the day of Nella’s birth with tears and grief and joy. And the fact that you fell in love with your daughter so quickly is to your credit, and should never be held against you as denial, or whatever it was people were saying. Those who haven’t been through the experience of giving birth to a child with special needs don’t know the dramedy that is our life. For the first few days after Julianna was born, I was shellshocked, in crisis/survival mode. I fell in love with my daughter when she was five days old and I got an email praying that God would take away her Down syndrome, since there is no Down syndrome in Heaven. I wanted to tear the head off that woman, and that was the moment when Julianna became mine by choice. And although sometimes I still grieve for the difficulty of teaching her some of the things that come so easily to my other children, I spend much, much more time laughing at her, with her, and with her siblings. It’s been that way since she was just a few weeks old, and I think it always will be.

as always an amazing post!! What a bonus for us followers that you “lied”!! I love that! and love the pages for the book… your girls and in turn their children and so forth will thank you one day! what an amazing gift you’re giving your family and in turn the following generations. that’s something many of use do not have from parents/grandparents and wish we did!

question for you — you say here you use microsoft digital image suite (which I don’t think is made anymore sadly) and in another post you said you use Lightroom… are those the same? are they both imaging/editing software?

    Kelle,
After several attemps, I finally read your story of Nella’s birth. I’m not sure I’d ever be able to read it without tears, so I just kept going till I couldn’t see through them anymore, then I’d start again. As I see several other have said, this could have been my story. My son, Kellan, was born Oct. 2, 2009, with Down syndrome. I, too, knew it as soon as I held him. I too waited for someone to tell me I was wrong. I too spent that first night in agony, unsure I’d ever be able to bond with this baby. The baby I’d been pregnant with was gone, and he was replaced with one I hadn’t signed up for. I too am sad that I missed out on feeling so much happiness. I too love, love, love this baby now like crazy. I wouldn’t trade him for anything. Nella is beautiful, so are you, inside and out! Thank you for sharing your honest, heart-wrenching story.

Beautiful photos, books, girls, and blog. I’m addicted to it. I just wanted to point out (proofreader that I am) that one of your book pages has an error in it. Normally I wouldn’t say anything, but as you are going to print it for your daughter, I thought I’d point it out so you can correct it (hopefully) before you print it.

On Lainey’s carnival page you wrote “delighted to indulge in a your carnival treats”. The “a” should not be there. Just evidence in a change of thoughts . . .

All in all – just beautiful!

OK, obviously you don’t need to solve publishing issues, but I am curious if you know of a self-publsiher that allows you to publish 12 by 12 books created on our OWN software, instead of shutterfly’s or snapfish’s, etc. You said you use Shutterfly…but can you publish with them using your Digital Image suite layouts? Seriously, I have googled this and checked out SO many different publishers and can’t find ONE that does 12×12 with my elements layouts! I love your pages, by the way.

I too can’t wait to see these books on my girls’ shelves when they are older. I am honored to spend time with you and your thoughts–by experiencing your feelings, I become better connected to my own.
I found a quote many years ago that has helped me through many trials these past years.I i hope it does the same for you. It goes like this…
    .
“The same Everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and everyday.
Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginings.”

He has obviously given you unfailing strength…so go bravely forward on this path, for you are not alone.
