do you know what this is?

that, my friends, is steam.
significant steam rising from my coffee cup this morning.
steam that dances upon the surface of its coffee stage because the air around it is slowly cooling, making way for another glorious cold front.
it is a new day.
it is a new time.
it is a new month.
november.
i think my favorite month.
you know what happens in november?
cold fronts. putting up the christmas tree. planning the thanksgiving spread. family. making stocking stuffers. designing the christmas mailer…and the ceremonious evening of handwriting each address, sliding the little gift into that envelope, and preparing it for its journey across the country. fall cleaning. thanksgiving pajama breakfast. newborn clothes–unwrapped, washed and folded into waiting drawers.
ah, november.
welcomed this morning on the lanai with cinnamon rolls and coffee and the jungly sounds in the woods behind us.

and a ‘foot war’, a favorite of hers.

and we kissed october farewell last night with the loveliest of halloweens.
papa arrived, paintbrush in hand ready to transform this mama into the ethereal mother earth i had in mind…

i suddenly felt incredibly powerful…and responsible for world hunger and disease and natural disasters, not to mention a little itchy from a couple layers of acrylic paint.
…and friends soon followed, filling the spaces of our driveway with costumed littles and laughter, good food and the energy these sorts of gatherings bring. it was a family free-for-all and while i feel i lacked a bit in hostessing last night, it didn’t matter because everyone was here for one reason…to soak our littles with a really good time.

thank you, joanie, for the cupcakes!
‘
and that we did.
she totally got it this year. the trick-or-treating. except when the door opened, she said something that sounded like trick-or-treat and then just walked in everyone’s house. past the candy, towards the couch…just kept on walkin’ like she lived there.

and if there was a dog? oh, forget it.

and if there was too much halloween decor at the entrance, she opted to skip that house. we’d point and ask ‘this house?’ and she’d answer, ‘no, scare me.’ …and move on until she found a skeleton-free happy house…with a dog. ‘c’mon,’ she said. and brett & i could not stop smiling.
and as we walked, quietly, hand-in-hand, brett said…‘i love this.‘
i love this too.

oh, happy november.
there is so much good in store.

Yay! I get the first comment. Kelle, you are the epitome of the earth mother…truly. Hold tight to those wonderful moments and traditions…I know you will. Just lovely. And November is pretty darned awesome, I must agree.
I always love the first of every month… November, December, and January especially. Something about new beginnings. I cried in Target yesterday because someone was playing with a snowglobe that played Winter Wonderland. Bring on the holidays.
Oh I love it too! haha about walking into people’s houses – it makes so much sense – completely sensible. You knock, they open the door, of COURSE you go in! Gotta check everything out!
h
I had so much fun last night! Thanks for sharing your neighborhood, your home, and your traditions, we loved it! You are an amazing host. My favorite pic is of your belly getting painted while trying to shove your leafy chest out of the way! HA!
aw…kell you looked so great! love the belly pic and your dad painting on the mountains rocks!!!
lainey in that costume is so stinkin’ cute, can’t take it.
new header rocks too!
xoxo
happy november to you, too!
what a great day! You are your girl both look fabulous. I love that she picked out the houses she wanted to go to. Her little, but willful opinion. I love November too! xo beautiful pregnant mama.
Kelle,
Your Mother EARTH costume ROCKED! I love it. So fun and so creative. I just sent you an email letting you know that we are making the move from Indiana to Naples – full time – come November 22nd. A scary yet exciting decision all at the same time. I can’t wait for the day when we can trick or treat door to door with spaghetti straps on rather then full blown winter coats. It was freezing here in Indiana for Halloween night this past weekend. I’m ready for the beach, fun in the sun, and sand between our toes.
Hope to meet you in person sometime once we are moved and settled in. 🙂
Blessings, Angie Seaman

forgot to mention, i love how you put that baby belly out there for all to see. proud mama you are, love it!!
and lainey’s crazy hair, love that last picture!
All the kids dressed up, how fun! Let me just say the Earth belly got me laughing. You will provide the world to your new little one once she is born so the earth painting is fitting.
P.S. Lainey looks so grown up!
i can’t believe i got to meet you in person and finally see little lainey love. how precious. thanks for posting the pictures of the cupcakes and me and chardy – much love from nashville.
Don’t know if I could ever be as bold to wear a costume like that when I was pregnant, but you SOo rocked it!! Love it all!
