i’ll take ‘fits and fury’ for $100, alex

July 14, 2008 By Kelle

first of all, i’m breaking my own rule by posting this picture because i don’t believe in photographing your child when they’re behaving “itchy.” but, these shots were semi-accidental not to mention she may just still be little enough not to realize her negative behavior is being merited attention.

enter exhibit a: the fit.
Photobucket
(gotta love the hands-in-the-air. her future drama teacher, i’m sure, would give her an “a” for effort.)

the fits are coming full-force these days and, although they certainly aren’t scathing her overall personality (there’s just too much sweetness to make up for these small bumps on an otherwise perfectly paved road), they can’t be ignored. when they were fewer and further between, i would tell her she mommy was not happy with her fit and put her in her crib to “fit” it out. but, now that they are happening a little more frequently, i realized the crib makes no sense at all as we are right in the midst of trying to make her crib a secure, happy place for her to fall asleep. i don’t want crib = punishment.

so, we decided today to designate a “time-out” chair, one i will venture out tomorrow to find and eventually paint all cute (not that “time-out” is cute…ha!). so, we’ll see where that goes.

in the meantime, lainey and i are getting ready to go see brett’s parents up in the chicago area, and we’re excited to go, but we’ll miss daddy too. there’s been lots of small things to enjoy, but i’ll admit miss enjoying-the-small-things herself is sick and tired of this depressing rain (cozy? begging for tea to be made? sorry…i’m over it).

so, i promise a really good enjoying-the-small-things post tomorrow…laden with yummy pics too!

oh, here’s my sweetie not throwing a fit. see…she’s precious!

Her fits are about as tame as a ladybug crawling on your arm!! Probably feels like a bee sting to you tho!!
I can’t wait to see your time out chair…I’m know I’m going to want to sit there too!! You’re an amazing mother and handle her ladybug fits with such ease and patience!!

    Aaaahhhh, that’s better.
    Got my ETST fix.

Oh, do I remember “the fits”!!
    Too well!!

My favorite part of her pictures is how she is in the middle of an “I-am-so-mad-frustrated-angry-at-this-moment-and-I’m letting-you-know-all-about-it” outburst…
and yet seems to have no idea how stinkin’ cute the patchwork whale with a stiched blowhole looks with her color coordinated hat, pants, and sneakers.

The two extremes just don’t go together…it’s like the cute outfit gives her away or something!

She would be more believable in just a dirty face and soggy diaper.
    LOL!

    xoxo

I think you mean “scratchy”, if you’re referring to the words of my eldest who, at the time, was just nearing a fit of her own.

good luck never taking pictures of her feeling scratchy. they make rather classic photos, I’m afraid.

So funny that you don’t believe in taking pics of your kiddo as they scream. I agree and made my first ever post of bug with a sad face just yesterday! It is just that the sad faces are cute too and it isn’t like you were all, “Lainey, cry so I can capture it on film.” She chose to document that moment, you just had the camera…right? Right.

And even if you are being punished, you should still look cute.

Hope you get your sunshine soon or afternoon tea could turn to afternoon gin and tonic.

PS You’re a nice Mommy to give her a chair, painted to boot!!

All my kids got was a tile on the floor of the hallway.

Oh the fits…I can’t help but laugh, she looks so adorable! I love that she kept her hat on during the fit.

One would think just saying the word “no” wouldn’t cause such an uproar. Let me know how the time out chair works, I think Mr. J would climb out. I’d have to get one with buckles, but then it might look like a torture device.

    Hi Kelle,
I have missed you and Lainey so much! I can’t believe she is having fits, but I guess that just means she is finding herself. I can’t wait to talk to you as to how you are dealing with them because you are such a calm, collected mommy that I look up to in so many ways. Give that little girl a big hug from AJ and I…see you soon.

I love that little fit she threw!! The hands up in the air are priceless. More of that to come. Wait till she does it in the middle of Publix!! I STILL have my kids’ timeout chair. The seat was hand-stitched by a friend with little bunnies on it. I’ll keep it forever.
