the same

December 6, 2008 By Kelle

i don’t know if it’s from being so busy or from this time of year just making me so much more aware of traditions and rituals in our home that are so close to my heart, but…

nevertheless, i have been drinking in our morning routine lately.

it’s the same, every day, and as much as i love to change my hair color, my blog header, lainey’s clothes in one day…the same is comforting and good.

we wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. and i hug her the same way. i hold her in the same nook of my arm while i pour my coffee in the same mug and drink it the same way…with just enough cream to make it the color of latte’s fur.

she sits on my lap in the same trance, drinking her bottle while i turn on the same morning show and sip my coffee.

and then, after a lot of pajama leisure and laziness, we take a shower together. every morning. and for the first two or three minutes of our shower, she lays her head on my shoulder while the warm water falls on her back. and it’s quiet. and close. and her skin against mine and her needing me to hold her reminds me of when she was new and tiny and we did our showers the same way then too. ‘cuz it’s always the same.

and then she brushes her teeth while i wash my hair. and she keeps brushing her teeth for a good ten minutes after. …because she likes to brush her teeth.

i love our showers…and i love the same.

…enjoying the-same-as-everyday things. ~k

bonus:
a little fun from poppa’s christmas party last night where we bathed in fabulousness…and laughed so loud from playing catch phrase, i thought the babies were going to go deaf.

ohhhh…yeah you’ve discovered early on how beautiful routine is..and SO good for them. Then later in the day, when things fall apart, or when you need some spontanaeity (sp?)…it’s okay for them – they know the next morning it will be….
the same. love that you sense this.

Also, the last pic of Lainey, the b/w with toothbrush in mouth…her eyes are SO you once upon a time – amazing!!

Last night was so very fun…your friends, Kelly and Heidi, are like “extra daughters” to me…I hope they know how much I love them! It just made my heart happy to have everyone together…people that normally wouldn’t “connect” and we all did. Thank you for including it in your schedule…oh, and you really should have commented on my faaabulous tree!!!!! Lainey clearly loves a party!

I can’t believe the amazing Rik considers me another daughter! WOW! Those are some big shoesies to fill!! I’m always in awe watching him with Lily…he truly is the baby whisperer and you can tell Lily loves him like her 3rd Poppa!

Love the pictures in the shower and can’t believe she loves to brush her teeth so much! Dr. Boe would be so proud!

The pictures from the party are priceless. I look like I’m going to jump across the table; baby in tow; and rip the words right out of Jess’ mouth!!

My belly is still sore from the laughter from last night!!

Rik, (or should I say “daddy”) since Kelle didn’t mention it, your tree was fabulous with a capital “F”. I especially like the sea urchins over the lights. I guess your other daughter doesn’t notices beauty like me.

    I know I’m your favorite.

Also, I like the watch The Tony Awards too. Just sayin.

Yeah, you’ll laugh when they read the will and Kelly with the y walks off with the farm, or at least the tree.

can i just say how impressively hair-free your shower drain is? my son took a shower with me the other day and kept refusing to get under the water. i asked why, he said, “because the drain is YUCKY!!!” i could donate a wig to locks of love with all the hair stuck in mine.
