cubby is still overcoming a cold and, while we were sad to miss out on a couple wonderful invitations for some guaranteed new year’s fun, we decided to keep her home and bunker down…
…and it was wonderful.
of all the new years we’ve spent fabulously dressed, shakin’ and shimmyin’ amid horn-blowing and confetti…this was my favorite.
spent in the quiet of our home…in our jammies.
fabulous, it still was with a lovely stash of fruit, brie with toasted candied pecans (props to sister) and bagel chips stacked high with smoked salmon, dill dip, boiled egg, onion and capers.
…and some bubbly.
after a few fireworks, we settled inside.
she fell asleep, runny nose and all, in my arms on the couch next to a fire.
and then i laid with her in bed, listened to the ball drop and thought about just how wonderful this beautiful moment was. and, of course…my first kiss of the new year was to the little wonder breathing in my ear.
there will be years for dancing. for horn-blowing. for confetti.
…but this one belongs to her.
cheers to beginning a new year in the happiest place of all.

Kelle, I agree, sometimes staying at home is the best way to bring in the New Year. My last kiss of 2008 and first of 2009 was for my baby . . . I LOVE the photos of you kissing Lainey’s little head! So perfect! I hope 2009 is good to you and your family!!
ps – LOVE the new hair do!! Very rocker chick turned Mama, in a totally cool way!! 🙂

Happy 2009!
I love how much you love your baby. Although I didn’t stay awake to ring in the new year, I was sleeping soundly next to my littlest!
Oh, life is good …

happy new year!
i agree so much.
there will be years for all that other jazz. but this is the only time that you will have this little … being this little. it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. and you took it.
stella tried so hard to stay up this year … but she only lasted until 10:45. poor darling. she had her “champagne” with breakfast. jeremy was gone … (charlotte NC, i think) … so i went and kissed them both at midnight. but i still missed the husband.

Hello Kelle,
Happy New Year! We also brought in the new year at home – I agree, it really is the happiest place of all. Oh, and a very belated Happy Birthday to you! Glad you have embraced your thirties – I’m 34 and I have to say I’m thoroughly enjoying them. Wishing you and Lainey (and your family and friends) a happy and healthy 2009 filled with love and laughter.

perfect. We had a mellow New Year gathering and it was grand. I think I always want to spend New Year’s Eve with my chicken. It beats bars and lame songs for shiz.
Also, my new favorite band is mgmt and I think you’ll like this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyrfzzUTzFk. xo
