And We’re Off

August 20, 2010 By Kelle

…to the big city.

Photobucket

Nella and I are making a quick trip to NYC to see some friends. Poppa’s coming with and I do believe we’ll be checking off a bucket list item while we’re there: Picnic in Central Park. Check.

Brett and Lainey will be holding down the fort while we’re gone. Already missing them…but it’s just a couple days.
Jam-packed fun days, that is.
Stay tuned.

I have arrived and Kelle just touched down with Nella so can’t wait to greet them in the Hotel Lobby and grab the Nellabean from her mother! Light rain out but it doesn’t dampen this City’s wild energy. I did the metro bus and subway…the ladies are doing a taxi! I keep humming “New York, New York!” I am the NY Nanny, what can I say!

Kelle, I know you maybe can’t read all of the comments you get (I am amazed), but I just wanted to delurk to say “I love your blog” – your photos are amazing and so are your kids.

I am not sure, if you know Conny Wenk. She is a German Photographer and her daughter is about 10 years now and has “the little extra” chromosome, too.

Conny takes wonderful photos in general, but the most special ones are her pictures of kids and youth with Down Syndrom and their families.
She has published several photo books and calendars all promoting “the little extra”.

If you want to, check her out here:

Oh, Poppa, I love you. You are so loving, kind, and always ready to help your beautiful Kelle. I want you to adopt me, but I’m old enough to be your favorite auntie! You must have been through some tough stuff in your journey, but you still look for the best in people, even to the few who are rude and close-minded on this site. Kelle and Nella are giving our children with “extra magic” such a gift in educating the general public in how delicious our “babies” are. Our almond joy (thanks for that wonderful nickname, Kelle)is 52 yrs old and a joy to us every day of his life. He has taught us to be so much better than we would ever have been without him. He is so funny, sweet, and loving and thinks we are perfect! Poppa and Kelle, thank you for your incredible writings and for teaching the world to love…with tenderness and humor.

I work on Marco Island as a Wedding Coordinator, and the moms in the Food and Beverage Department introduced me to your blog. I fell in love instantly…the writing style, artistic details, and beautiful stories of everyday life as a mom that I hope one day to share. I have been busy lately and getting back to work today, my Monday, I needed some inspiration as everything is a bit slow. No traffic on the way to work, no red light for voice messages, occupancy is low travelers back to reality…..with school starting and a rainy day it’s a different day filled with silence….something I forgot existed at work. So I have to say THANK YOU! I needed some inspiration today, and your blog did just that. As a hopeful future bride/mother/event planner thank you for opening up your world so I can have a peak at what my world maybe like one day! Filled with a JOURNEY OF HAPPINESS that will one day be my present!

Brit Girl, films are generally negotiated in Los Angeles, not NYC. I say it’s a book trip. And I think her agent would handle selling publishing rights to her story, not KH herself. But editors usually need to meet authors in person. Or maybe she isn’t lying and she really is just visiting friends. Can’t see Poppa tagging along for something so mundane, though.

I hope you’re having better weather there than we’re having in Southern CT!! The past couple of days have been miserable! Hopefully the sun will come out tomorrow so that you can picnic in Central Park! Enjoy! It’s an amazing city! Hit Virgil’s BBQ (right by Times Square and Toys R Us!) on West 44th. They have some amazing food not to mention the “knock you off the front porch lemonade” that is out of this world!! Can’t wait for the next post to see the pictures!

Anon a few posts above is jealous jealous jealous! Save it for your own ranting blog sweetie. Yes Kelle is writing a book. It’s awesome that she’s getting her story out there. Your jealousy, however, is not awesome! This is Kelle’s space and we love her. You won’t get any kudos here for accusing her of lying or attacking her appearance just because she puts herself together and can rock it out as a mom. Seriously, go lame it up somewhere else.

Just had to tell you that my 10 month old thinks she and Nella are the best of friends…I usually have your blog open on my laptop while Im making dinner (because I love your playlist so very much), and I put my little in her highchair because she likes to ‘help’, and everytime she sees the pictures of Nella she smiles and waves. Last night she was loving the pic of Nella in the New York hoodie!

    Dear Anonymous,

I wrote that Kelle may be in NY negotiating film rights to a movie of her life as a joke – unfortunately it seems my humour got lost in translation! Also, as someone who has worked in publishing for many years, I’m well aware how the book process works. But thank you for taking the time to explain it for me!

And Kelle? If you choose to tell us about your NYC trip when you’re ready, I will hoover up every word! And if you don’t, that’s fine too! Looking forward to your next post -whatever and whenever it may be!

But I just hope, as I’m sure everyone does I’m sure, that she and Nella Bean and Poppa are having a great time in the Big Apple. And Lainey and Daddy and the boys are having fun back at home.
