I wrote a poem last year for Easter, comparing the Easters of my childhood with what we celebrate now with our kids. The gist is that the common denominator is love, love, love–something I believe in without hesitation and can clearly teach to my kids.
There is no wrong way to believe in love because love is right no matter what.
If life were a football game, holidays are halftime. Rest, recover from the work, recap on how you’re playing…and then get your frickin’ pom-poms because it’s time to have some fun.
Oh, I can do pom-poms.
This is what our high kick and herkie looked like this weekend.
Dash eats hard-boiled eggs like apples. He bites right through the shell.
And sugar cookies are the best way to commemorate any and all out-of-the-ordinary days. I’m looking for a dollar sign cookie cutter to celebrate income taxes.
Lainey decided this year she wanted eggs hidden inside and outside.
If looks could kill, then this face? I’m gone.
This is Easter love, right here.
Also, I should note that taking the kids outside now means eventually taking them back inside. Let me try to describe what it looks like to transfer Dash from happily playing outside to inside where walls limit his adventurous little spirit. It’s like wrangling a dinosaur. It’s like trying to stay on one of those mechanical bulls. It’s like hanging on to a slippery fish–a catfish with barbs. It’s like catching a wild boar with your bare Vaseline’d hands.
And it also looks like bribery.
We made fresh flower crowns that the girls wore for all of 2.5 minutes. I realize the whole Easter dress thing is more about nostalgia and less about practicality. But the bunnies were a huge hit. They’re in a “cage” this morning with grass and a bowl of dog food.
I love halftime.
Feeling grateful for family and love, and ready to get back in the game.
We can still highkick while we play.
Hoping you all had a happy weekend, celebrating the loves you believe in.

Please, where did you find the bunny pajamas? I love them!
I love all these pics. I had a quiet weekend at a woman’s retreat which refreshed my soul. May Gd continue to bless you.

What a beautiful way to start this week – reading this blog post. I love how you celebrate life. Our holidays are looking a bit different these days and there was no egg hunt this year (for the first time). I cried only a little bit, but enjoyed a day of reading together, making art and really good talks about life and growing up. Renewal, indeed. xo
Love “the look” from Nella – adorable!
When I think back to my childhood Easter holidays…I think I can smell the color of pink and chocolate, and I can recall the feel of new maryjanes and ruffle ankle socks. I love Easter and celebrating HE gave his life so I could have mine…
Love is a Verb. Love Does.
As for dollar cookie sign…. Large S shape and frost in the lines?
So adorable.. so different Easter in your part of the world compared to ours!
The Littles are beautiful:)
I have a dollar sign cookie cutter you can have if you want it. I’ve never used it and probably never will 🙂
So I totally forgot about easter this year. It’s easy to do when you have no kids, no religion and you’re traveling a lot the few days beforehand with no reminder. BUT, I did buy a kid’s book in the seattle airport called Busy Bunny Days on Saturday. I bought it because I fell in love with it. Kelle, it’s the best kids book I’ve ever seen it. And the illustrations were so beautiful and festive and fun that I looked at it for two straight hours on the plane. Which was a bit awkward for a moment because we were sharing our plane row with a model who talked the entire time about being a model and kept showing dave photos of her international bikini shot, no kidding, and I was all like, “you talk to her Dave, I have to see what these crazy bunnies are up to!”
Anyway, now I realize it was my inner something- inner kid? inner future mom? knowing it was easter and steering me towards something pretty and rabbit filled.
Anyway, that one picture of Dash propping himself in the light and LL holding a colored egg…amazing light right there. I’d print that one!
xoxo

All hree of your children are beautiful but I have a spexial soft spot in my heart for that little boy – he reminds me so of my son at that age. My son is now 32. Sigh
I just recently discovered your blog and like it very much, I’ve been reading your old posts for the past couple weeks to get caught up and the way you view things in life is so positive, I love it. Thanks for your writing and photographs, both are beautiful as are your gorgeous children. I too would love to know where you got the bunny pj’s!
I love that picture of Nella and the flower wreaths! All your kids are adorable 🙂 Happy Easter (a little late)!
Easter is SO much more than just easter bunnies and chocolate. You are absolutely right though about it being about LOVE – and there’s no greater love than the love God showed when Jesus died on the cross for us – sinners, now saved by grace! What a gift! Praying for you. – Bonnie
So very sweet. Beautiful family and photos. I love those bunny pancakes. Nice job momma!
Beautiful. I love to see the world through your eyes.
Happy Easter, I love your photos, with the photograph I can feel your happiness with your children when Easter. Hopefully in the next year Easter, the moment was repeated. God Bless your family.
