Dearly Beloveds, we are gathered here today to witness the marriage of two of our favorite things–food and crafting. This little D.I.Y. does both with one simple food item, plus there’s a bonus–a parting take-home favor for every kid. Is it sorcery? Nope, just our favorite Stonyfield yogurt. Their snack packs and yogurt pouches (their Spinach Pear Mango pouch is our favorite–so creamy!) were a staple in lunches throughout the school year, and now they make for easy grab-and-go snacks for our summer adventures.

Kids love to have their own little place to store their stuff, and these little pouches are the perfect size to store kid treasures like little sunglasses, spending money, lip balm, crayons, Calico critters (Mama Hedgehog!), gum, hand sanitizer, sunscreen sticks, etc.
Here’s how we made ours.
1. Snip off the top of the pouch, just above the logo.
2. Paint the pouches a base color. We figured out a fast and smudge-proof method by staking a paint stick into the ground, sliding the pouch over the stick and spray painting it. They dry quickly in the sun.
3. Once the base color is dry, use acrylic paints to draw designs. Summer cherries, rainbows, dinosaurs, abstract art–whatever delights your creative heart.
4. Once designs are dry, using a hole punch, punch a hole about 1/2 inch down from the top of the pouch on each side. Thread a strap for the crossbody pouch through the holes and knot it to secure it. We used leather lacing (found in jewelry aisle of craft store), but you could use hemp twine, braided yarn, ribbon, etc.
5. Stuff pouches with necessary treasures for adventuring.
6. Embark on adventure looking too cute.
One more way to repurpose! The pouches are liquid-friendly, so they make perfect little wall display vases for flowers! Secure the string shorter, fill with water and add your latest wildflower picks.
I absolutely love this and cannot wait to try it at home with my younger siblings! Maybe even do one for myself while I’m at it. So cute and innovative and helps save the environment! Amazing post!!
Quick question, Kelle. What kind of spray paint do you use? I noticed that you do a lot with spray paint and I’m always impressed by the smooth and shiny finish but just have no idea which brands work well and which brands you wouldn’t recommend. Would this be the same kind of spray paint you would use for wood furniture?

I usually use Rustoleum or Krylon. They have lots of different finishes–satin, matte, glossy, depending on what you want and how you’re using it for. They also have different spray paints for different materials–plastic, metal, wood, etc. You can look online for Low or No-VOC spray paints as well. I know Benjamin Moore will actually make a spray paint for you with any color you want and in low-VOC paint (costs quite a bit though).
