September is Here! A Fall Favorite Round-up

September 3, 2021 By Kelle

Happy September! As fall approaches, we’re looking forward to seasonal fun, decorating the house and enjoying our favorite fall traditions. Adding little bits of fall decor and planning gatherings in September always helps get me out of the rut that back-to-school monotony can bring. A round-up of some of our fall favorites today:

1 – Zombie Pops
How cute are these zombie popsicles? We have them, and the silicone molds are super easy to slide off, revealing spooktacular little zombies complete with legs (and rib bones inside!).

2 – Ghost Stories
Prepare for an October full of frights with Roald Dahl’s book of short ghost stories.

3 – Skull Earrings
Want to add some fun Halloween flair without going full Ms. Frizzle? This simple little skull studs are the perfect match.

4 – Hello, Harvest Moon
I love a good fall read-aloud that evokes all the cozy feelings of the kind of midwest Autumn nights I miss. This one’s a treasure for both the prose and the illustrations.

5 –Vintage Crew Socks
The perfect boot sock with some retro camp vibes.

6 – Sweater Weather Banner
Looking for a subtler way to add fall love to your wall without going full on Hobby Lobby “HARVEST” plaque? This sweet little banner is the answer.

7 – Felt Ghost Garland
One of my favorite ways to decorate for any season or holiday in the kids’ bedrooms is adding garland across their headboard. This wool felt ghost one can be saved and reused for years.

8 – Wall Bats
Our inexpensive go-to for Halloween decor. We add these every year up and around our fireplace, and it instantly transforms it into an October masterpiece.

9 – Frankenstein Pillow
Such a cute and easy way to decorate kids’ room for Halloween.

10 – Personal Pumpkin Bread Pans
Everyone in our family loves pumpkin bread, and I only make it in the fall. These little individual loaf pans are such a cute way to make it special for your kids, or wrap up and deliver to friends.

11 – Poems of Gratitude
I love a good pocket poetry anthology, and a gratitude-themed one feels appropriate for the coming season. This one features poems from Rumi, Rilke and Yeats to Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, Anne Sexton and Robert Frost. Leave it on the nightstand for a reminder to end the day with poetry.

12 – Scary Bingo
We started seasonal Bingo a few years ago with a Christmas themed one in December, and it was a huge hit. We make a big deal out of it with dollar store prizes and Friday Bingo pizza nights. This monster version is adorable and perfect for some fall fun. It’s been sitting on my dining room table, and the kids keep asking when we can officially start Monster Bingo nights (I’m waiting a couple more weeks to build the excitement :o)

13 – Fall in Love Grace Effect Candle Collection
It’s candle season, and I’m very passionate about candle scents–so much, I created four perfect fall scents with my friends at The Grace Effect. I smelled and tested oils and whittled them down to four scents I’ll be burning all fall–from a warm “Nancy Meyers Kitchen” scent to a sophisticated vetiver scent Kathleen Kelly might light in the Shop Around the Corner. All the Autumn feels in this Fall in Love collection of four candles.

14 – Witch Hats (to hang from the ceiling!)
Last year, I hung these witch hats from our living room ceiling with fish line, and it was a huge hit–a dramatic Hogwarts transformation that brought so much October delight.

Love the hats! How do you get the fishing line to stay on the hats? I’ve tried zots and velcro so far 🙂
