My heart is happy.
Because my day has commenced and closed with little moments of goodness like two equally delicious bookends, propping up a smattering of middle chapters that happen to include similar goodness. A Goodness Sandwich, if you will.
Beginning with hot coffee hugged in the perfect mug as we leisurely readied for our day that included…
Full of sugary pastels and best-dressed littles holding baskets on the outside and anticipation for egg hunting and candy finding on the inside.
Lainey herded us along all morning, trying to get our butts out the door because she was so excited to see the Easter Bunny. Of course, one sighting of him transformed her innocent excitement to horror movie-like terror. As soon as she saw him through the glass panes of the door, she ran like hell to her daddy.
…and only lifted her head off his shoulder for a glance if she had the door as a barrier.
She kept her hands over her eyes believing that whole If-I-can’t-see-him-maybe-he-can’t-see-me thing. Kids are so funny.
And when, and only when, she was thorougly ensured that the Bunny had left the building, she agreed to venture outside for my favorite part. What is it about egg hunts that make me so freaking high on life?
Maybe it’s the way she works hard to hide her smile. Like she’s way too cool to let you know she’s totally enjoying it all. No, she forces seriousness, tediousness, total focus as she scours the dewy grass for jewel tone hints. But, even through the straight face, the intently masked shy smile, the finger-in-her-mouth concentration, you can see it. …Bliss. And I can’t hide the fact that it just gets me. Her. Spring. Little kids in ruffled dresses and perfectly-parted braids happy squealing and mad-dashing to fill their baskets.
And the little bunny who slept through it all.
She wasn’t quite so frightened of the Easter Bunny so proper introductions were made.
Big Bunny, Little Bunny. Little Bunny, Big Bunny.
And they became fast friends…even though, after I put a baby in his arms for a picture, the Big Bunny looked at me through those giant mesh eyes like he didn’t know what the heck he was doing. I just saw two strange eyes peeking through those huge mesh holes, our gazes met and it was really awkward. I wanted to say, “I see you in there” and I think he wanted to say something maybe along the lines of “I don’t hold babies,” but there were throngs of children around him and if we shared a conversation and the kids heard a recognizable man’s voice squeaking out of the tiny fur hole in the giant bunny costume, I guess the jig is kinda up.
Moral of the story: Giant Costumes for Grown-Ups are kind of freaky.
Needless to say, our morning was perfectly festive. Followed by an intermission of inhaling every breath of heavenly goodness these eight pounds and fifteen ounces of magic gifts me with.
Brett is known for his series of nicknames for his kids. He takes nickname-giving a very serious sport indeed, pondering his choices, making sure they “fit,” sometimes altering them a bit until they are perfect and organically worn-in. Lainey’s “Baby Bee” took a whole year of cultivating (and shortening from Binkywinky to Binkywinks to Binky to Binks to finally, just “Bee”) not to mention the handful of other names she was referred to in the process.
With that said, I’ve been wondering what Nella will be called. She’s all of two months and I’ve been waiting to hear mention of a nickname, but haven’t wanted to badger or pressure the arrival of such name without it happening naturally just the way Daddy likes to do it.
Well, this week, it’s happened. It’s been dropped several times now and, although it’s subject to change I’m sure, she has a Daddy-given name.
…and every time I hear him whisper it to her, it makes me want to cry. What a present she is.

Spring = Bonnet Wearing. Because I love bonnets so very much.
And the last chapters of our day arrived with a beautiful evening with friends sipping plastic cups of beer poolside…
…and an outdoor movie. Lainey was thrilled to drag her pillow outside and curl up under the stars with a blanket, a bag of popcorn and some tiki torch glow for some Saturday night perfection.
…while Nella slept through the entire thing.
And somewhere between tying my wet hair into a sloppy ponytail this morning to make it out the door on time to satisfy a begging toddler waiting to see the Easter Bunny to settling into patio chairs under the stars to watch my girls experience the cozy joy of watching a movie outside, it arrived again–that feeling of perfect contentment. Because, no matter what stresses lie on our plate, what challenges we face ahead, what unpleasant feelings we temporarily harbor, the Bigger Picture of what really matters? It’s perfect and beautiful and unscathed.
And our conclusion today? After the last chapter, we closed with our pre-bed Easter Eve ritual…putting out the Easter Bunny’s food–because, apparently, despite the fact the mesh-eyed giant terror traumatized her a bit this morning, she’s over it and is okay with the fact that he’s comin’ to our house tonight.
Lainey chose celery and water and scripted my note to him, verbatim, as follows:
Easter Bunny, Come to my house.
At nine.
Hello.
Bring me a basket and chocolate.
Please. I love you. Love, Lainey
Tomorrow brings good things.
Have a wonderful Easter.
And a total tangent, but many have asked about the absence of the hospital bracelet. It fell off. Just fell off while I was running out the door one day. I didn’t get to cut it myself or have a moment when it happened. I looked down and saw it lying there and thought maybe I’d cry or fall apart but, nope. Just tucked it in the pocket of a diaper bag and moved on. Because life moves on and we’re all okay.

Glad to hear you had a fun day! Loved “hearing” about it and seeing your pics! Lainey is so precious – that smile is amazing!
Enjoy your holiday!
Aww, everything looked so fun and cute, especially the girls!!!
xx
Weelllllllll……..I thought I might be first! 🙂 And – even though I said earlier that I don’t post so very often – who could miss the opportunity to be first???? But, I’m 2nd – and that’s OK – because I got to stop and take in your beautiful pictures and story just a little longer!
Loved hearing about Lainey and her reaction to the Easter Bunny. My daughter (who’s a little older than you(!) was petrified of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny – all of ’em…. I’m really glad the tooth fairy never woke her up, during her nocturnal offerings! Thank-you for sharing your day with us!…Rosemary
Well, I’m 3rd – cuz, I wrote too much! 🙂
you have the best neighborhood! so envious – what a fantastic place to live and for these girls to grow up. have a wonderful easter 🙂
Ahhh!!! So not fair!! You just chimed on my blackberry, and I thought.. oh my god..it’s so late…I could totally be first comment!! The page wasnt’ even done loading and I’m already #4…probably #7 by the time I’m done typing.
I have issues. Going to read now and relish your bits of Easter yumminess….
Happy Easter…be back soon!!
beautiful and heart warming. Easter is my favorite holiday because its about warmer weather, bright colors, rebirth, family and friends. Its the start to night walks, camping trips and smores. My you all have a Happy Easter. Luvs&Hugs
I love the traditions in your family, and the way your pictures truly tell a story. You have inspired me and so many readers to pick up a camera and not sweat the things that don’t matter, and to love the things that do.
PS, I have a pretty big obsession with bonnets myself, I can’t stop buying them:)
I love to read this ongoing story of your life before I go to bed at night. For some reason it gives me a sense of peace and you just have a way of lulling me into dreamland with your majestic pictures and words about life.
*sigh* …. goodbye 2 tons of bricks that have been sitting on my shoulders all day long. I may pick you back up tomorrow and I may not.. but for now.. I am just content. To be who I am, where I am, how I am..
Thank you Kelle for the breath of fresh air and new perspective that you give me. Thank you for the complimentary pair of rose colored *Special Edition* Kelle Hampton glasses that I am reminded to put on whenever life turns back into.. well… real life. =) What did I ever do before I owned a pair of these glasses??? I dont remember.. I think I’d like to keep it that way!
God Bless you sweet girl.
XOXO
Happy Easter! Thanks for letting all of us follow and enjoy your journey, Dana
I want to live in your neighbourhood! It looks like so much fun!
Happy Easter! xxx
Kelle~ I love this post so much! I love Easter and little girls in dresses and lace and bonnets too! I’m so sad that my little girl (7 1/2 now!) won’t let me dress her up anymore. In fact, just today I went to get her an Easter dress and I had a hard time even getting her to wear a dressy blouse and skirt!! But, when she was Lainey’s age, I had her in lace socks and bonnets and frilly dresses ALL the time. Thank you for your honesty and for sharing your beautiful family. I have loved your blog so much and can relate to much to much of your life. ((HUGS)) and Happy Easter!
Kelle, I am incredibly envious of the neighborhood you live in! I hope someday when I have my own children that I will be lucky enough to live in a community that is as tight-knit as yours seems to be. Another person who posted above me said something about the rose-colored glasses they have found since beginning to read your blog and I couldn’t agree more. I had found myself so downtrodden lately with my own struggles in life but since I’ve begun reading your blog I have been completely inspired to find my own pair of rose-colored glasses and begin enjoying the little things in life. Thank you for being that inspiration! Keep on writing and sharing pictures of your beautiful family!! =) -Tracey
So happy to see spring and Easter and all of the hope and joy that comes with it so beautifully portrayed.
The sleeveless dresses and flip-flops make me miss FL just a little bit. My daughter had her first swim lesson today. In an indoor pool. Ah well…afterward the three of us were all wearing our jackets for a 3 hour walk around the city even though it was a clear, sunny day here!
Easter to look forward to tomorrow. If it’s nice we may go watch the egg hunt in Golden Gate Park. Ada is too little to join but even still it seems fun to watch.
Happy Easter and Happy Spring!
Whew. Ok, done.
LOVE the new banner…just perfect. And I don’t what it is…I swear I can’t put my finger on it, about LL burying her face in your shoulder, and your sweet mama smile saying, “I know you’re scared, but it’s really pretty stinkin’ cute that you’re scared of the Easter bunny,” totally made me tear up.
Took me right back to my days as a toddler teacher…when they’d bring in Santa or the Easter Bunny, and those littles, who I swear to god I loved on like they were my own, would (like 6 at a time mind you) cling to me for dear life…and it’s all you can do to love them back, keep ’em safe, and just laugh.
Happy Easter Hamptons,
xoxo-nicole
beautiful! those pics. that header. yum.
love you. happy easter!
My dad calls me “Baby Bee” too. I’m 22 years old and he still calls me it. I’m sure it will be a nickname that Lainey will love throughout her life like I do. That nickname always brings a smile to my face even if it was given to me as a child. 🙂
Have a beautiful Easter with your family 🙂 I love your writing… soul touching.
your blog is incredible… i am obsessed with your pictures…
Kelle,
It truly is a blessing to be able to come and read about your journey with your beautiful girls. Almost 5 years ago, I was lucky enough to meet my best friend’s little sister Kaitlyn, who has Down Syndrome as well, and it has transformed me just seeing her growing up, though I don’t get to see her nearly as much as I would like to. Your husband is exactly right for calling Nella “Little Present.” That is exactly what she is, and my, is she gorgeous. Lainey too. You are wonderful for giving the rest of the world a snapshot of your everyday life with your little family. Every time I get the chance to read this I love you and the girls just a little bit more. Thank you so much 🙂
Your neighborhood is such a fun one. Your pictures are beautiful.
Hope you and yours have a Blessed Easter! 🙂
I LOVE Nella’s nickname. Not only because she is a present (I always refer to Morgan as “a gift” to our family) but because the biggest thing Morgan has taught me is to live in the present. I spent so much time that first year worrying about the future and unknowns with her. It was such a waste of time. I missed out on what was happening at that time, not completely but still, too much energy was spent on it. I’ve learned to not do that anymore. I focus on today, the present, with her because it’s the known and it makes the journey a happy one for me.
P.S. Thanks for reminding me that I have some of those cute bunny ears too. Gotta go find where we put them. Happy Easter:)
And thanks for dropping by my blog to say hi! It made my day!!!
I love the new banner! And of course I teared up when I read “little present” so I can only imagine how you feel when you hear it!
I just posted our Easter egg hunt tradition as well. Have a happy Easter my friend. Thanks for taking us for the ride with you!
I have just found your blog and I think I am in love! You have an amazing way of telling your story. Thank you for sharing! Happy Easter!
Happy Easter!!! My own very brave, social and outgoing three and half year old looked completely stricken when asked to sit on the Easter Bunny’s lap this year. Two other moms of toddlers asked her to show their sons how to do it and I guess she felt the pressure…like the quintessential good sport she is, she sat on his lap with some serious “deer-in-the-headlights” eyes. It simultaneously broke my heart and made me roar with laughter…
I absolutely love your new banner…and wish that all of our neighborhoods were as neighborly as yours. You know this, but I will again tell you: you are beyond blessed. Enjoy your special Sunday! Families are such blessings! <3 Beth
Oh how magical your entries always are! What a beautiful easter weekend for a beautiful family. I must say though…you HAVE to stop putting up such delicious photos of Miss Nella…it’s making me baby hungry!
and as always you write an amazing blog.
Love the picture of Lainey “hiding” from the Easter Bunny.
Love the pictures of Nella….as always.
and her nickname is the most precious thing I have ever heard.
I hope you guys have an amazing Easter tomorrow
Katy
I’m in love with this blog, if one can be in love with a blog 🙂 Beautiful photography. Beautiful family. Beautiful stories. Happy Easter ♥
Thank you for your beautiful life stories! I feel so blessed to have come across your blog. I’m a first time mommy to a 5 month old daughter and you inspire me to make every day and every situation special. Thank you thank you!
Oh my God, those air-borne tootsies are just too much cuteness for any one person to handle!! Swoon!
I’m glad you found contentment today Kelle. May you find contentment each and every day to follow. (:
“Love is the master key that opens the gates of happiness.” ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes.
My husband is big into coming up with nicknames as well. I love the ones he has for our little girls. Daddies and their girls… so much fun to watch!
I think I say it every time I comment on your blog, but your girls are just beautiful. Your family is beautiful. Reading your blog makes me appreciate life so much more and strive to be a better mother. My children will thank you one day for inspiring me to come up with fun and creative things to do with them!
Hope you have a fantastic Easter!
Claire
Too funny about the nicknames! And we use the same names for our daughter Brianna. She is known as Binky and Bee. She was a thumb sucker so Binky it was and Bee as Brianna Bee flowed! She gets called both 12 years later! Love Nella’s too!
Happy Easter!
:o)
Jennifer
This must be the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen! You brighten up my day with your stories and pictures! Thanks for sharing
I never comment on blogs, but I had to thank you for shaping life so beautifully with your words and photos. Thank you for sharing your stunning days and insights. I’ve only been reading for a few weeks, but life already looks more textured. Thank you.
I love love this post!!! 🙂 Happy Easter!
I LOVE LOVe all the thing you neighborhood does and hope that in our next home we find a community like that.
Thank you for your beautiful pictures and uplifting words. Reading your blog has truly inspired me to start letting stuff go and enjoying the beauty in the life.
Happy Easter!
“it just fell off”. Yum- that’s a book waiting to happen.
I’m taking a photography class- you just spur people to do great things, you know that? Well you should.
love your photos and words- thank you for sharing your life-
jq
I wish my neighborhood would do things like that. Heck if my neighbors even smiled at one another it would be like the skies open up and angels singing, and we’d need to call the church to report a miracle has occurred. Our neighbors are more the “write nasty notes to each other” kind. Oh well. You make me think twice about wanting another boy, I think I may need to have a girl! And my son will be 3 months on the 9th and he is already almost 12 lbs!! You are so lucky to get to have your tiny baby just a little bit longer!
I love the photo of Nella with her pink hat on, she is truly beautiful, and you are an inspiration. Thank you
my heart hurts reading your Easter story. but it’s a good hurt. you have described our neighborhood back home so perfectly. we are living in Dubai right now..our first Easter away… i managed to find a coloring kit so at least we can do colored eggs to keep up our tradition. Easter isn’t celebrated in quite the same way in the middle east…but while I wouldn’t trade the experience we are having now for the world, i do miss all those neighborhood things we used to do for Easter and for “just because” weekends. thanks for letting me live this fun day through your post.
I found your blog just yesterday and have to tell you how inspiring everything is you write. How you deal with everyday life, the photos you take, how you enjoy all moments, and cry sometimes and still treasure everything. I’m not in any situation like yours but I hope that someday I’ll be more content with my life and truly happy. You inspired me, so thank you a lot.
haha, i can understand her, that bunny was scary!
I try every time I read a Kelle post to not have a little tiny tear – and I so nearly did it until I read the bit about the ‘little present’ nickname. And then I was gone! You posts are so bittersweet – the way you notice things, the observation of life in its simplest form. Its just a pleasure to read and to follow your blog. And oh how it makes me miss Florida – even just the light in your shots is sooo pretty. Happy Easter xx
Love the new header, Kelle. Gives us a sense of peace, freedom, love and beauty. Just like you and your blog. Perfection!
Happy Easter to all of you!
Xoxo
Happy Easter! What a beautiful entry. Your words always make me cry. The type of stuck in your throat, Oh my goodness, she does it too! type of lump you get when you are profoundly touched. When you wrote about the anticipation of Nellas nickname and of it finally being spoken …. wow. It’s universal and special and God given emotion. You have the gift of expressing that Kelle. It moves us, sometimes to tears …
B E A U T I F U L !
Happy happy easter to you all!
Gosh, I’m in love with Nella’s gorgeous blue eyes! And Lainey with a finger in her mouth – pure innocence!
Yes, Kelle, everything’s perfect! 🙂
Georgeous Easter, have a great one!
I must say that I loved your bookend idea. This year I am doing everything I can to live in the moment and I think it just gave me a new way to think about it.
Love your new header!
Happy Easter!
I love the new header…and when I saw it, I was reminded of a little phrase my Catholic friends taught me years ago. When something unexpected happened…something you first saw as not a good thing…they always said “Offer it up!” They meant, “Give it to God” because He knows how to seemingly sprinkle it with His mystery and magic and give it back to you as a blessing. So when I saw my sweet Nella’s feet held high in the sky in her fathers hands…I remembered again, “We offered her up!” And she is just blessing now…blessing, blessing, blessing! The neighborhood event looked wonderful…and to all those commenters who wish they lived there, the wonderful things are because of a few wonderful people who make them happen…and those people can be us in our neighborhoods. Little things like surprising a neighbor with an Easter Basket who may not have had one in years…I cannot wait for your call this morning to tell me what happened with Easter’s arrival. I must agree with Lainey’s little fears…a giant rabbit can be scarey…us dads almost enjoy that, because it makes our arms a strong fortress that we hope you never leave. Feel mine around you, sweet one, for I still hold you there. Happy Easter…He is Risen and lifts us too!
Happy Easter Hampton family! Your post was a breath of fresh air this morning.
Happy Easter! Hope your littles, as well as you and your hubby, enjoy the day!
Happy Easter! Hope your littles, as well as you and your hubby, enjoy the day!
How cool that your neighborhood does that!!
How cool that your neighborhood does that!!
Got a teary eye too when I read “Little present”. She’s the present that will keep you present. She’s the gift that will keep you in the “now”.
Happy Easter! We just came back from Disney and one of the first things I did was come to your blog and read the happy posts and updates. It might seem funny to say this but I thought of you when we were in “It’s A Small World” . . . there’s the “Holland” area with ducks and a boy and girl wearing wooden clog shoes and every time we went by (we rode it at least three times) my son would quack, quack with the ducks and I sent a little happy thought of Nella your way. It IS a small world after all . . . it’s a world of laughter and a world of tears, a world of LOVE and a world of fears and I can’t remember the rest, but it’s always been my favorite ride. I found it ironic and funny . . . I think I could see the Eiffel tower from Holland. 🙂 Disney really is where dreams come true, right?
Hope you and your family is having a very Hoppy Day!!!
Enjoy the day, love the pictures, Happy Easter to you and yours : )
ps- Love how you shed the bracelet. So as it should be.
Adorable post!!!! One of my favorites:) You just blow me away with your words, Kelle! I mean to say, as in completely talk to myself as I’m reading this blog and say to myself, “Are you kidding me??? How can she say something so totally awesome like THAT???!!” . . and what you write makes perfect sense and I never have to say to myself, “Now, that’s a little deep! What the heck is she trying to say?”. I loved the way you describe Lainey’s shyness, but yet excitement combined. That is my six year old son to a “T”!!!! But, of course, I never knew how to describe it and you did it just perfect!!! I want to live in your neighborhood, too. I love what your Poppa wrote about your neighborhood;) That it is the people who make it and ANY neighborhood can be that cool! Thanks Poppa:) HAPPY EASTER!!!:)
Little Present…..perfect.
Happy Easter!!!!!!!!
Kara Brown
I need to know where Lainey’s dress came from!!! It’s so precious!
I, too, love the new header. Perfect for this time of year.
I’m all with Miss Lainey about the Easter Bunny….costumes like that are just scary!
Poppa I loved the comment about “offer it up”. I also loved how you, in such a generous and gentle way, said that this could be anyone’s neighborhood with a bit of effort.
Happy Easter.
I love your story and how you share glimpses of your day. Isn’t it amazing how our hearts heal and rejoice in the beauty of life. So, happy to hear your heart is well. That’s the best Easter gift of all.
Happy Easter!
You have such an inspiring story & I’m thankful you share your life with other bloggers.
Your neighborhood seems so close-knit. It’s great!
:]

Love you.
I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoy your blog posts! my husband gives our children nicknames as well. Little Present is perfect for Nella : D
Looks like so much fun!!!! Happy Easter
Well, I’m 69th or 70th, depending if someone beats me to the post button. We still don’t have any kiddies, but thankfully my niece and nephew visited Friday, and I held TWO easter egg hunts for them! It was a blast watching my little red-headed nephew zip here and there with excitement. He is the epitome of joy and delight and discovery. I even hid some high for my 16 year old nephew. In my opinion, you are never too old… Gorgeous little smock on Lainey! How cute that she was scared by the bunny, but your little bunny, your little present, just gets more and more beautiful every day!!!
Thanks Kelle. Happy Easter and have a blessed day! God bless. <><
Kelle, Thank you for the beautiful pictures of your beauties…I especially love the ones of Lainey with finger in her mouth..and Nella in the bonnet. I am now obsessed with making and buying hats and bonnets for my soon to be born granddaughter..also socks with frills on them. Oh yes, I love your music choices. The nicknames are so appropriate…Little Present… I think of yor blog as a big present to all of us… lucky readers.
Happy Easter from Donna in Canada
I loved your post. I don’t blame Lainey for being afraid of the bunny. They are kinda creepy. I don’t know that my 8 year old would go near him either. Looks like a fun day…….I want to come hangout in your neighbourhood. How on earth did you get such a great place to live?? I wish it was like that where I live. Hope you enjoy your first easter with Nella……she is indeed a little present, a truly special gift. One to be thankful for each and every day.
I love the newest header creation you presented us with! Total bliss and freedom! Just like what childhood should be all about. There is an ease about it. just wonderful!
You just have to love this Nella phase. I loved that part of bringing baby #2 into the mix. I almost felt like my little Isabelle was tempering herself into our mix of life by only giving us little bits of her awesomeness at first.
Thank you for sharing. I hope the Easter bunny liked the celery.
God Bless your family this Easter and always. Life is chock full of little presents; once opened they keep giving and giving…xo Trish
Happy Easter Hampton Family!! I hope you have a wonderful, sun filled day of deliciousness!
Happy Happy Easter!!
I am so happy that you are happy! What a fun day…Lainey is so cute..love her personality! Nella gets to be more of a little treasure every day…HAPPY EASTER to you and yours 😀
Beautiful post, Kelle! I’d have to agree with Lainey, the Easter Bunny is much better as a picture in your mind rather than the actual thing. 🙂 Nella’s Daddy-given nickname is adorable. Fits her perfectly. Your new banner is precious.
Happy Easter!
Deanna
Love those kind of bookends, LOL!
And Lainey’s note to the Easter terror.
And all the beauty of this post.
Blessings, Hamptons!

ok you got me again, here i am
balling , the whole nickname thing
is precious, and Poppa my dear
mother always told us to
offer it up. Happy Easter to all,
to all who comment and share so many of my own feelings. we are
blessed to have today. May we find
joy in colored eggs and bonnets
and grown children and grandchildren who bring so much joy. I am hooked on this blog
thanks for the reminders to stop
and enjoy what is most important.
love to all.
Nicknames are the best. 27 years ago my husband gave me one, that has been shortened through the years, but still mine. Each of the three kids also have one (or a few, actually) that also have been shortened and also have stuck, 22, 19 and 13 years later. Love will do that to big, grown men!
I love Nella’s nickname! But I especially love Lainey’s, my nickname is also Bee 🙂 HAPPY EASTER Kelle!
Doo doo da dum, doo doo da dum, doo doo doo doo doo doo da da dum dum, da da da da dum, da da da da dum, da da da da dum…..
Happy Easter to you and your family!
Loving your beautiful new header and all your beautiful photos! Loving Lainey’s (“Baby Bee”) innocence and Nella’s perfect nickname “Little present”! Her Daddy is so right, Nella is definitely your moment to moment precious gift, your little big love. 😀
Many blessings~
“Every one of us is called upon, perhaps many times, to start a new life. A frightening diagnosis, a marriage, a move, loss of a job…it’s impossible to think at first how this all will be possible…Eventually, what moves it all forward is the subterranean ebb and flow of being alive among the living…And onward full-tilt we go, pitched and wrecked and absurdly resolute, driven in spite of everything to make good on a new shore. To be hopeful, to embrace one possibility after another–that is surely the basic instinct…Crying out: High tide! Time to move out into the glorious debris. Time to take this life for what it is.” Barbara Kingsolver
Each of my children have nicknames, all which evolved through the years. So sweet. Happy Easter.

Been a pretty avid follower!! Just wanted to say Happy Easter and…. how quickly do I want to move onto your block! What a lovely community of people.
Yeah, Lainey is totally right about Easter Bunnies being scary! I would cry too, haha 😉
And anyways, Nella is a WAY cuter bunny 🙂
Happy Easter to you too…
Your posts just bring such a smile to my face, and the beauty of your daughters that you capture so well-
what can I say?
Thanks for sharing your contentment with us, it brings a happiness to my already very content world.
Oh, I almost forgot…how were the PEEPS?!!! All good and crunchy by now? Do you bite the heads off first?! LOL

Happy Easter, Sister Friend! Now tear open those peeps and let them get stale! Just the way they were intended to be eaten! Your sweet family brightens my day. Thank you.

Your Papa is a rock star. No only do you capture in words and vision the beauty of life, but your Dad is awesome and so connected to you; and accentuates so well what you wrote. He made some beautiful points about your Nella, and the nickname is priceless.
Peace,
Jennifer
Happy Easter to you!
I’ve been wondering about your hospital bracelet. I love this, “Because life moves on and we’re all okay.” as these words mean so much. When Lexi was born, I needed to know that our family would be okay but I think our friends needed to hear it too!
Love,
Jill B (Overland Park, KS)
cute nickname! My son is 12 months and he still doesn’t have a nickname! I don’t want to force anything.. so I’m hoping something special will come to us 🙂
Happy Easter!
Glad you had a wonderful day. Awesome post as always. Your hubby’s nickname for Nella made me cry, one day I will be able to read a post without crying!

You live in a magical neighborhood! What a fun party! My husband and I just moved to our first home together, and I think I’m going to have to start some fun in the neighborhood…we have lots of kids around, why not get us all together!
I want to move into your neighbourhood! Thank you for sharing your wonderful day with us.
For some reason I found myself laughing out loud over the introduction of Nella and the Easter bunny…Big Bunny, Little Bunny. Little Bunny, Big Bunny. Love it!
We are nickname people too. And yes, it does take some time to find the right one, but then you just know. Nella’s new nickname is perfect.
Happy Easter to you and your family!
Libby
also, lainey’s easter dress = super cute!

HappY Easter Kelle!!!
{{{{HUGS}}}}}
Kelle- I recently found your blog and I have to say how much I appreciate it. I too have a special little miracle of my own. She is 13 months and the joy of my life, my little angel. I have a hard time expressing my emotions at times but can so easily relate to everything you write about. I appreciate your raw openness and honesty. I love Nella’s nickname. It is perfect. Happy Easter.
Happy First Easter Nella! Your big sister Lainey has done this a few times, so she can show you the ropes…..
She has a lot of insight into “the bunny”, “the hunt” and awesome Easter egg dyeing. You are so lucky to have such a cool big sister (I have one too!). She will teach you many things!
Tell your Mommy and Daddy that they are amazing……..
Susan from Boston
Oh I love your new header! (Is that what it’s even called??) It shows she is truly, truly heaven sent. I am so envious of your neighborhood!! All your get togethers, and how your neighbors are so much more than just people who live next to you. So many things to be thankful for…

Kelle- I had to laugh at the whole “husband nickname thing” because my husband does the same exact thing..with the kids, dogs, the cat. I am surprised at times that everyone knows their name in our house! It is reassuring to know that my husband isn’t the ONLY Daddy that does that! Looks like you had another beautiful day with your family. thanks for sharing your rays of sunshine with us!!!!! Happy Easter!
I want to make this short: Your posts make me realize how precious life is. My baby is just weeks older then Nella….. Your posts keep me grounded. Thank You 😉
we had our neighborhood party on saturday too!! here’s our party..
http://camerasandchaos.blogspot.com/
i love how they get so excited but so scared at the same time. so cute.
I think God just planted the most perfect day for your little Nest Kelle……your photos reveal His Easter Love over you all.
God Bless,
Barbra.
Love the new header! We (my 9 year old and I) almost didn’t scroll down to read the posts we missed while on vacation. “Oh, mama, baby toes are the size of popcorn seeds!” “Look at how cute” and on and on and on.
Technology free vacation was great, but checking your space was a good welcome back. Thank you!
Happy Easter! May God bless you and your entire family.
;o)Alison
I first heard about your blog through a friend who posted your Birth Story on her blog site. I’ve been hooked reading your blog ever since! I love what you have to say about anything and everything. Your girls are absolutely beautiful. Your blog is an inspiration to all young mothers who have a child with down’s syndrome. You were chosen by God to be a mother to Nella and go through everything with her. The hard times and the joy. The memories and the laughter. She is truly a blessing and a very special girl and I wish you all the best!
I love that the bracelet fell off in the middle of living – it’s just so perfect, isn’t it? Somehow, through beautiful, ordinary living, it suddenly didn’t need a ‘moment’ to fall away. It just fell away.
🙂
ps I listened to Bitter Heart so many times when I first heard it – couldn’t stop!! I love her.
cora … did not want the easter bunny to come to our house this year. she thought it best that he leave the presents outside. poor girl.
i think it was the giant bunny dancing in the mall the other day that did it.
and i have to tell you … when i was at the natural baby care store yesterday scouring the world for some cute baby boy clothing (seriously … it’s hard work.) i came across the most beautiful baby girl onesie that simply said -bunny- i wanted to scoop it up and send it to you.
it’s the thought that counts … right?
You live in such a cool neighborhood! I wish my neighbors were that into holiday stuff. I love Lainey’s dress. It’s super cute. My four year old covers her ears when she’s scared. I still don’t know why and neither does she because when I ask her she says “I don’t know”, lol. Last year was the first year she wasn’t terrified of the Easter Bunny but it still took some coaxing. As usual beautiful pictures. I love, love, love the last one of Dadddy holding Nella up in the air. Beautiful!
I have to say, I love reading your blog! Your photos are always sooo amazing! You have a great eye for the little details!
Thanks for sharing!
ok… so i found your blog just a few days ago (a link to nella’s beautiful birth story on another blog) and i am HOOKED! beautiful writing, beautiful pictures, beautiful family. and that nella!! each picture is more beautiful than the last. i have a 6 month old baby girl and i felt everything with you as i read your words. thank you for taking me to a place that i have never been. i am a teacher, so i see exceptionally special children like nella often… but i never thought of what it would be like to be a parent to them. the same as any other child, really. just as special. just as beautiful. thank you! all the best to you!
What a delicious Easter you are having so far!:)
You made me laugh with the Big Bad Bunny story, kids are hilariously unpredictable, aren’t they?
My hubby has a similiar knack of cultivating nicknames…Mine is currently “Cakes”. It started as Baby, then Baby-Cakes and then finally just Cakes. People often think my name is Kate when he calls me it (its not, it’s Allison!!)
Our daughter, Grace is/was Baby G, BG, sometimes “Ali-G-in-the-house” with faux rap accent and now its usually just GG(gigi). She’s 6years old.
Our 1 year old son,Will, so far has been refered to consistently as “Mootz” and I’ll be honest, I’m not loving it so far but I know its still a work in progress, lol.
Hearts and hugs to and yours on this holiday.
Allison (aka Cakes) in Australia xx
Happy Easter to you! Your girls look beautiful, as always.
Who takes the photos when you are in the picture?? Do you set it on a timer, or just hand the camera to someone else?
Looks like you and I had the same food for Easter – a happiness sandwich 🙂 Thanks for sharing all of the precious moments with us – Nella is getting more and more gorgeous by the day! Package should be on the way for the girls within the next couple of days.
Happy happy Easter Kelle!
There’s a knowing behind those little almond eyes, isn’t there?
Both your girls are just beautiful and lucky to have so much love and magic in their lives. You’re doing good Mama.
Perfection – your words, your pictures, the new header, little Nella’s nickname, Lainey in her adorable dress. Thanks Kelle for making me smile today – this was a great post!
May God continue to bless you and your family.
Sue
I so love reading your posts…and seeing your gorgeous blonde’s beautiful outfits! I love the ruffle socks and the brown, moc. boots. Too cute…
Your family is so precious! “Little Present” is such a beautiful nickname. I think Lainey has it right about the Easter Bunny..I was looking at http://www.sketchybunnies.com today and it made me think of her, lol. Much love to your family, S
Please Please Please tell me where your Pink floral camera strap came from 🙂 I love it!
I laughed out loud so many times while reading this post– i love it!! And I love your blog, it makes me happy 🙂
i love how the hospital bracelet just fell off. no fanfare, no tears, just movin’ on. keep on truckin’ baby! lifes too awesome and too short to stand still.
we didnt even try the easter bunny this year. 1. the fenton easter bunny is creapy. 2. jonah was sure to be freaked since a few nonths ago he wasnt big on even santa. 3. driving to somerset to find a more suitable easter bunny…there just wasnt time.
and little present. Love.it. seriously.
I LOVE love love this site. Your pictures are phenomenal and your children are beautiful. I was turned to your blog from DMillers site where you wrote about the birth of Nella….I passed that along to sooo many people and we wept tears of…SO MUCH for you. Soo blessed you are. The part that got me in your story was your sister. When she said that you were sooo lucky to be chosen….I just thought…HOW TRUE is that!!! Nella is beautiful. Your whole family is. I am a follower of your blog friend. Keep posting!!!! 🙂

Kelle, you always have such amazing posts and pictures to go with those amazing posts, I enjoy reading your blog very much so. My daughter wasent too fond of the fury white rabbit this year either (she is 2) but she loved her easter egg hunt! Lainey looks beautiful in her dress and easter bunny ears, and Nella is just perfect, “little present” fits her perfectly. She is such a beautiful gift. I love how your community has such great things to offer, no outdoor movie nights or block party’s here =( Im so sorry your bracelet fell off 🙁 Ive kept both of mine and put them in each of my kids scrap books.
Ive noticed your having to delete user comments quite a bit still, and I just wanted to say I think thats so sad that someone would write something on this beautiful blog that would even need to be deleted 🙁 (((hugs)))
P.S. Love the new header picture! beautiful!!
Your photos make life look so so beautiful. seeped in magic. thank you thank you!
your Easter looks and sounds wonderful! many blessings to you and your family!
I’m 25 (soon to be 26) and I still smile when my dad calls me my nick name. I have two (depending on the season); Sun Bunny and Snow Bunny. I know that Lainey and Nella will cherish their nick names as much as I do later on in life.
It looks like y’all had a fun Easter Weekend. I wish I lived in y’all’s neighborhood, it looks like so much fun!
Thank you for sharing…it always brings me a smile to read your blog…and has definitely been helping me to find joy in all the small things in my life. Here’s to life (thank you Jesus!)
You are so inspiring. Do you ever have any bad, rotten days? LOL- NOT that I want you to mind you.
I want you to have beautiful days, every one of them with your perfectly precious daughters.
I smile just looking at those little bundles of princesshood. Is that even a word. I think not, but just for today- it will do just fine.
Happy Easter!
I love the new blog header, and this blog made my heart smile. I hope that you and your family enjoyed the Easter celebration and all of the festivities it brought along with it.
🙂
Fantastic new blog header!!!
Also, you must have the world’s most perfect neighborhood!! I’m entirely too jealous! 🙂
Lily kept saying ‘bye-bye-bye’ to the Easter Bunny and waving furiously to make him somehow disappear! Kids are so cute! Looks like a great Easter – you do holidays right! With lots of fun and love. Nothing better than that. 🙂
Happy Easter to you. Looked like another great moment for your family. Love the hospital band story – somehow, its lack of fanfare seems so perfectly fitting.
What a beautiful Easter weekend to have! Lainey sounds like my niece when it comes to hiding that smile. 😉
I love how you shared the nick names given by daddy… I can envision it in my mind and it brings tears to my eyes… My husband does a lot of sweet things with our son that has that effect on me as well. 🙂
He too has MANY nick names that I’m sure will narrow down to one some day. 🙂
As for the bracelet, it happened when it was time to happen for you. 🙂 Sounds like it was a perfect way for you… Lots of love, and Happy Easter! <3
Kelle, about the nicks, I still call my one and only dght, Jamie Patricia now 23 yrs old, my “Baby-girl”, also another nick I called her is “Willus”, like in “what are you talking about ‘Willus'” ?, lol You might be too young for that show, but Jamie, when she was lil would be chit chatting away none stop, and I would often have to say, slow down Willus and tell me again what you’re talking ’bout !….lol and even now when she says something silly or odd, or that she did not quite think out and I question it, I call her ‘Willus’ !…*winks*…Deborah, the Canadian Nurse…
Lainey’s note is the cutest…
I wanted to let you know that I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now. You have a beautiful family. My son, Graham, 2, was just diagnosed with a genetic syndrome in February. The tip of his 18th choromosome is missing. He has a number of challenges, but he brings us so much joy. He’s perfect just the way he is!! Suffice it to say, I know what you’re going through. I find a lot of your posts hit close to home. It’s such a roller coaster. I look around at the stacks of medical reports and think, “Is this really our life?” Yet I see him and feel so blessed. Hugs!
I hope you have lots of friends and family around you who tell you all the time what a great mother you are!!! I love Nella’s name…it sounds so right. Hope you had a wonderful Easter day!
“Let’s go see Santa” is like a threat in our house. Gracee was probably 3ish when she met him (well kinda met him) for the first time. She got all dressed up in her little Santa dress complete with hat..ran into the mall, took one look and SCREAMED bloody murder..which set off a few other little ones…she then ran to her daddy and would not take her face out of his chest until she heard the engine of the car starting! When we go to the mall she can still tell you where Santa’s house was setup, that is how much it scared her!
I love the picture of Nella looking into the camera…she has very wise old soul eyes…she is shedding her newborn look..she is just breathtaking. And your picture at the end with her little feet touching the clouds but she is still safe in daddy’s hands is just about as spirtual as it gets..your photos are changing, they are so moving and you almost don’t need words to see the story in them..me likey!
You have THE MOST beautiful heart and soul!! Your daughters are just breath taking and to see life thru your eyes is just amazing. I came across your blog thru the news, I have been checking in here and there and ev-r-y single time I cry happy tears!! You should be SO SO proud of yourself and the family you have made… After I read your blogs and I say to myself.. I wish I knew her!!
Loving:
1. Lainey’s note to the Easter Bunny. The greatest note of all time I am certain.
2. My favorite header of yours ever.
3. I too think the Easter Bunny is freaky and that one in partic. Your description of the mesh eye holes while holding Nella had me laughing. Remind me to tell you about the time I was molested by a giant Osprey mascot at a Missoula baseball game…swear. While I was throwing out the first pitch in the middle of the field. Not even exaggerating a teeny bit.
4. The love you have for the place that is your HOME. It doesn’t have deciduous trees or snowy Christmases but you’ve carved out a little slice of perfection in a coastal community down south. Good job, friend.
5. Nella’s perfect little symmetrical face. Oh that sage face!
Take my breath away…I don’t think Nella has ever looked more beautiful! Oh that child of yours!!! Can we arrange the marriage now? I think Joaquin would make a PERFECT son in law :)!!!!
my moms nickname is BINKS. get a load of that. comes from an entirely different route. But I thought what are the odds!?! aha.
keep being awesome.

You and your children are BEAUTIFUL!
Enjoy them
Kelle I never get tired of reading about your life and seeing pictures of Lainey and Nella. Your girls are gorgeous, I swear Nella gets more and more beautiful every time I click on your blog…your life is wonderfully portrayed in your words. I must say I have huge envy over your neighbourhood…how wonderful to have all the kids and parents participate.
Love reading your blog. I have a daughter not much younger than Lainey and am dying to know where the easter bunny got those $7 sandals. I love them! Thanks

I love reading your blog. I recently found out that my daughter has down syndrome and reading Nella’s story has helped my husband and I feel like everything is going to be ok. That we are not the only ones who have those up and down emotions. Thank you for writing her story and for inspiring me not only to be the most mom to our Haley but also to go out and get her lots of fun hats.
Every time I read your blog, I cry. ( i think the music has something to do with it ; )
There is so much color to you and the people in your life….and it’s so bright. You just exude goodness, I can tell, and we’ve never met. Your children are beautiful. I lost my shit a little bit when Nella entered the world. Not because it’s sad…but the sight of your face in the photo where you held her for the first time. You wondered if you smiled…I’m a huge fan of *trying* to capture the moment. That photo is like like no other which moved me the way that one did. Kelly….I’m a big fan : )
Seriously? the celery with the note. How cute is that!

My sweet little girl, Lilly, was born on March 20 (the first day of spring) with Down Syndrome. Her pediatrician forwarded your blog to me to help me come to terms with things. I feel like you and I have similar stories in what we went through. The feelings you expressed in Nella’s birth story was exactly how I felt when Lilly was born. It’s been really difficult for me over these past few weeks, and your blog has helped me look for the beauty in all that we’re going through. Thank you! Here is our blog if you’re interested: web.Mac.com/bemartins (just click on the “view blog” link). Best wishes, Erin

AHHH I am reading from the beginning forward, and just came across your final pic in this post – The future cover of your book! You have made mention so many times in these posts of writing a book and I am sure you meant it and all, but part of me wants to say to the “2010 Kelle” that it WILL HAPPEN, you are REALLY going to have a book, and thousands of people will pre-order it and be so happy for all you have done since Nella’s birth! “2012 Kelle” is pretty awesome and I think is just going to become more awesome along with that beautiful family of yours!
