A few randoms…
A: Ingenuity is running out of diapers and thus rigging up a kitchen towel, some safety pins and a hotel shower cap with two leg holes cut out of it. I’m just sayin’.
B: Happy Lake Evening last night.
C: Babies in capes on really cool quilts.
Our favorite capes, courtesy of Pip & Bean (renewed sponsor, yay!…and we love them and all the imagination they encourage). And quilt, to answer all the questions, is homemade purchased from Ebay after a year-long search for the perfect one. I love everything about it…it’s worn, it’s random, it speaks to me. It’s up there with my red cowboy boots and my camera and my grandma’s old spoons on the things-in-my-home-that-I-love.
D: Photos displayed in the home.
And for a snippet of how we display photos inexpensively in the girls’ room, come check out one of my favorite websites, Ohdeedoh. (and we cheated on the gallery canvases…they are really just 20×20 prints that I spray mounted with photo-safe adhesive onto 20 x 20 canvases I picked up at Joann’s–a two-pack for $15).
Check it HERE.

At least you fashion a diaper when you run out. I usually just hope and pray until I can get myself to a store..sometimes I am not so lucky . I love your quilt from e-bay. I have these hand stiched napkins from a distant relative and a table cloth from my mom that I am sure I could not live without.
Beautiful! SO much beauty and love in your randomness!Happy Mothering!
That cape is so darling. And your diaper story made me laugh…very creative! ๐
Love the pic of Nella in cape and on quilt; she looks like a little superhero contemplating her next move. And yup, shower cap and kitchen towel – ingenious.
I’ve always admired the way you display photos in your house, especially the two huge photo walls you have. They look awesome!
That quilt!!!
Oh, and I love your impromptu diaper!! Hilarious!
i had a quilt like that when i was little…i wanna find one again!
looking everywhere for some polkadot tights too..
If you need another Midwestern visit, I could definitely use your most amazing eye to put up pictures! I have this problem with things being level…admitting you have problem is the first step, right?
Your Nella and my Neala and we could make a world of fun!
Thanks for the tip on how to display big photos like that!
I love the name of the website. Very cute! I also, like every one else reading your blog, think you are a freaking fantastic photographer!!! Kudos to your editing also!
MUST POST PICTURE OF MACGYVER DIAPER.
MUST
smart smart smart ideas!!! Definitely going to try the canvas idea!! Thank you for sharing!
My Grammy and her friends (Little Mennonite ladies : ) used to get together and make quilts like that.
LOVE your pictures. So much!
You have to post a picture of the diaper…genius ๐ Wishing I was in Florida with my little enjoying the last of the warm weather. It’s currently a balmy 40 here.
Ok, I’m coming off my sugar high, so hopefully I won’t crash mid comment. ๐ I was just on Pip & Bean about an hour ago looking at their capes. What great toys, especially for a smaller birthday party. I’m just saying that seeing the capes got my girlfriend Shannon & me talking about superhero birthday parties; we could rock one out seeing all the inspiration we keep throwing out to each other. Just talking about it makes me want to be 5.
Love the quilt. And I love that you sharing some creative inspiration. Thanks Kel. Glad that you’re loving life.

P.S. Is the template for the lake pictures something that you got out of photobucket? Love that slight retro feel, and it would look great in a photo album.
I love how you display photos in your home – and that quilt, omg, hhow gorgeous is that and something to hand down over time. Cheers x
i LOVE the quilt!!!!
Kelle~wanna come & put together my photo wall? I have a small wall above my couch, between two windows in my living room that is just begging for photos to be hung. I love how yours look with the different frames, situated just so.
My next to do project. Thanks for the tips.
2 posts in 2 days! Love it!
I adore your photo walls. You can feel the love that fills your home.
You’ve inspired me to fill my home with things I love. I think I may have to start my own search for the perfect quilt! xx
I was really hoping for a glimpse of that diaper! Just sayin’.
Very cool idea (spraymounted photos on canvas)… it looks seamless in the photo of the girl’s room.
Love the quilt. Looks so much like the ones I used to sleep under at at my grandparents. Ones that my grandma lovingly fashioned herself. Great memories you’ve brought back!
Just moved a cross-stitched quilt made by my grandma from the living room this morning. My eldest was insistant on pulling it from the coffee table (which doubles as a trunk and his new “hiding” place) and the dogs thought it was a great new bed. I was mortified! Luckily, all threads intact and no worse for the wear. Bet Grandma was looking down, just smiling at us all today with the adventures with her quilt!
Can’t wait till the room tour ๐
Love the picture of Nella with the cape! She is a SUPER girl afterall.
Great idea with the canvas! (they are so dang expensive the other way!) Did you just put it on the front, or does it wrap around the edges?
A few randoms for you:
1. Mercifully, you didn’t say you made the quilt yourself…then gloves would’ve come off beyotch!
2. I MUST get my hands on some capes for my superheros…and one for me of course.
3. I see you’ve already had some requests to come hang photos…please ignore them and come visit me. We’ll direct traffic and hold laser whilst sipping wine (perhaps this explains crooked attempts to date) and boss around my hubby.
4. I go back to work tomorrow, thus ending my maternity leave. But guess what you helped inspire me to get done before I went back? First year photo journals for both of my children! Me rockstar.
5. In case I haven’t told you recently, I think you’re wonderful.
I love your thirst for the next holiday! I am happily planning Thanksgiving and Christmas, with my wee one’s 1st Bday in between. We are doing a “Saerie in ONEderland” theme. Which begs the question…are you planning the big bday yet? ;-)(I confess to wanting to mooch some ideas…).
I love your collection of ‘randomness’ today Kelle! Just yesterday I was looking at a heap of recent photos that make me smile and was wondering how I would get them all into 1 or 2 blog posts with some sort of direction….but you’ve summed it up perfectly….RANDOMNESS!!! No real direction….just fun, beauty, inspiration, love & LIFE!!! Thanks again for inspiring me & making something TICK inside my head {and heart!}
LOVE LOVE LOVE your photo displaying style! I’m currently working on our ‘photo’ wall & am actually off to the printer today to pick up some 5×7 positive quotes I’ve desgigned to place in & around my photos ๐
xo
P.S. Nella is the dang-cutest little cuper hero I’ve ever seen :)))
Excuse spelling errors ๐ Was typing in a hurry with a toddler on lap ๐
Correction: DESIGNED….and SUPER!
Happy Wednesday Kelle {well…it’s Wed morning here…is it Wed there yet? time zones confuse me LOL}
xo
I was totally inspired by another pic you posted that had a wall of photos and did one of my own in our living room.
I’d like to see a closer shot of the shadow boxes in the girls’ room!
What a happy blanket! How beautiful. And loving Nella in her cape. She’s going to conquer the world!
Big love from the-house-with-the-red-front-door in England!
I loved this post!
What fun, beautiful style you have! I love my home, but would love to be a little more daring/bold with my color palatte. I have blues and browns, and clays…pretty, but bland! I just don’t have an eye for fantastic boldness!
So much fun Kelle! My Kate turns one in a few short weeks! I CAN’T believe it, not long for Nella. We are already getting ready for her celebration and that is what we will be doing-celebrating and you have helped nudge me along until I got there myself. Thank you my “friend”.
I just love those sock monkey prints! Oh, and I was expecting a pic of the shower cap dipe:). haha! Love it!
Hi Kelle,
I can’t wait to see a blog about Lainey & Nella’s room. I love how you’ve decorated it, and would LOVE to see it in more detail.
Love Mel x
Love it
Girl, you do good random.
Super-Nella is my big favorite.
What setting was your hipstamatic on for the lake collage? Lovin’ the blue-green-ness on those shots.

KWQR, Helga Viking lense, Ina’s 69 film.
Love that canvas idea! Did you spraypaint the sides white?
You should totally buy a couple of cloth diapers to keep on hand for such an occasion!
Love the canvases and super Nella! So cute.
I am running to JoAnn’s right now..ok maybe when they are on sale. LOVE the canvas idea and LOVE LOVE LOVE your picture wall. Have a fabulous week!!
Kelle –
I just figured out after you told KWQR that those shots are produced with a specific app in your Iphone. Damn, so much for a retro template. And double-damn, just another reason why I am jonesing to have an Iphone. LOL.
Those shots on the canvas are the ones you had posted in your local gap? My friend who is a pro photog too uses http://www.simplycanvas.com which are photographs printed on stretched canvas. Soooo awesome. Not cheep, but truly beautiful. Your prints deserve to go the extra stretch (uh, no pun intended).
Ciao,
Jennifer from Annapolis
You and my daughter would get along well, she’s aspiring photographer at the age of 3 almost 4 and she loves taking pics of her feet too. (:
You’re one crafty girl =)
Thanks for the tips!
Caryl
I love quilt.
Love the quilt! The pictures of Nella and Lainey are gorgeous – hope to see more of their room. Truly can’t get enough of your blog!
,,,adorable, nella sitting on her quilt with her “super nella” cape draped over her back,,,
LOL, I have had to use a towel and pins before!
I love your quilt, I noticed it in the trick or treat pics and have been wondering about it…
I have noticed over your last 3 posts “the quilt” and have been checking on eBay since I’ve seen it…..what a good guess I made! Funny how a quilt gives me that tickle in my belly…..and I can it’s beautiful colors spread out on the park grass this upcoming spring when our new little one will be showing his/her face to the world…….the search is on!
From someone who has never commented, thank you for your words and pictures, I truly enjoy reading them during the week!
ok, what?? Spray mounted? Help… I really want to know how to make cheap canvases… because I am just way to cheap to pay for a real one!!!! Love them!
Still just digging that desk! Love it. I’m working on getting our walls covered with some favorite pictures! Thanks for the link and the construction tips! Oh Nella and her cape!
Kelle,
Checked out your feature on ohdeedoo. Lainey and Nella’s room looks beautiful. Looking forward to seeing the room tour!
xo
Love it all! I want to be envious of you, but I just enjoy your photos so much that there’s no room left for envy…! ๐
OK, I checked out the photos of the girls’ room, and I have to ask… Are you constantly putting up new pictures in the display that’s at the girls’ level? Or do you have something over them to keep the girls from tearing them apart? Or… are your girls just so well-behaved that they leave them alone???
As much as I love to read your posts and see the photos, I love when you post random little posts and even your “small things” posts. ๐ Makes me see that I’m not the only one that is all giddy for dumb little things that are just awesome. Except I don’t post about it, like you. You, have a gift! ๐ THe quilt is fantastic.. I’ve been eyeing it since the first time I saw it on here. And could the hipstamatic app be any funner to play with? Off to see the canvas idea! Have a great week and hug those babies for me!!
I may steal your picture display idea…LOL although, I would love you to take the pics for me but I’m in Canada!
I love the quilt!
um missing – photographic evidence of “A”.
Please tell me you took a picture of the make-shift diaper! haha love it.
Might I recommend cloth diapers? I use them and never run out! They’re super cute these days too.
So, I dig random:
a – I’ve fashioned a few makeshift diapers out of the big ugly maxi pads from back in my big ugly post-preggo days. Sweet. (Ohh, my poor children.)
b – Love the lake pix!
c – My mom made an incredibly similar quilt to yours, way back when, from all of our (my sister’s and my) favorite blankets, sweaters, dresses, etc. from when we were babies. It’s priceless and amazing… Quilts are great because they’re made out of such love. Looks like you’ve got yourself a good karma quilt. :o)
d – Can’t wait for our gorgeous pic! Lila’s set aside a spot right above her bed and we’re thinking of doing the spray mount canvas thang, but… I want the photo to last forever, in all of its gorgeosity. Does the mounting make the photos curl/fade/etc. after years?
e – Do you, by any chance, know where I can get a cheap work table for my office? I’m currently using a drawing table to make jewelry and even the weight of, like, a bead makes it fall. In a perfect world, I’d be able to find a little, worn farm table… Is there a good place in Naples? Thought you might be a good person to ask.
Keep up the great work, Kelle! Always stunning and inspirational.

I love all the photos on your walls. Your house looks so cosy ๐
you are the best way to eat my breakfast after my girls are on the bus to school and the dog is killing his stuffed “guys” in the living room and the house is otherwise quiet … thanks for all the posts, random and not-so-random, and for sharing your family and photos. we just had family photos (w/ the dog) taken last weekend in a wooded central-illinois area … hoping and praying there’s a fantastic shot that will make a great canvas for our kitchen/dining area! have a blessed day!
Spraying mounting the pictures to the canvas is GENIUS!! ๐
I’m pretty sure I have a crush…a bloggy crush…on you…and your girls! You are my bloggy hero…speaking of heros, the capes? They’re spectacular! Better than spectacular, thier genius. (By the way…I just had to look up how to spell that word, ‘genius’ just doesn’t look right!) I have 6 boys (and one girl) and they totally need one of those capes, in. all. styles.
When I started my blog, I envisioned it flowing like yours. No such luck! Mine’s more like..well, I do’t know, but lets just say it’s not like yours, okay?!? Keep blogging. Espeially because if I’m going to have a crush, I’m sure my hubby would rather it be on you than some random hot dude I lay my eyes on! Love the pictures of your girls! By the way, I’m in West Michigan, and the fall colors are spectacular. In exchange for having a crush on you, I will soak in enough Michigan Fall-feelings for the both of us! Deal?!?

I so enjoy reading your blog and today’s Random post is just, well, perfect. I love your photography and your Nella in her cape is too precious. I think I’d love to sit down on that quilt with her and dream dreams.
Run on – just not in bowling shoes, kay?
I love your pix so much. And Nella in the cape is just so freaking adorable!
LURRVVV that quilt. timeless and a bit of spunk with the cape–If only we could fly away at times:) quilts always remind me of life in many ways…Much like life –pathced together, worn around the edges..and through all the cutting and tearing something beautiful is made. We just can’t see it until it’s done…
Kelle, what did you search on ebay to find that kind of quilt? Or anyone else know if that kind of pattern has a certain name? I want one, I want one!
Genious! Why didn’t I think of that?! I’m heading out to JoAnn’s this afternoon!
I have never written a comment before and have wanted to many times. I really love reading your blog and all of the inspirational comments you always write. I check it every day and have told everyone I know about it. You are an amazing writer and most of all mother. Your girls are so lucky to have you! I have 3 boys and strive to be the best mom that I can be. You make me realize to take a moment and to really listen to them, to REALLY listen to them.
My grey; not being able to be a stay at home mom and I really wish that I could do that. My boys are ages 14, 11 and 5. They will be grown before I know it. Today is a tough day. A friend of mine lost her daughter to diabetes this morning. This has made me realize how sudden your life can change and to appreciate every moment you have with your loved ones as they could be gone tomorrow.
My color; knowing that I have a second chance tonight and tomorrow to take the time to sit with my boys and listen to them and even though I can’t stay home with them during the day, there is always the nights and weekends and we will make the most of those times!
If you used cloth diapers you would never run out (although you might run out of clean ones :P) Just sayin’!
