Straight from our morning bath… drippy eyelashes, creamy skin that smells like buttermilk…and the way her body feels all…smooshy…wrapped in the towel…
There’s nothing as fresh as…Baby Fresh.

Tomorrow is my first Mother’s Day…and it seems funny that a national holiday day is dedicated to us when, by definition it’s “them” who make us what we are…our Littles. And I don’t want cards or roses or breakfast in bed…I just want her. I want to watch my little almost-one-year-old and be reminded once again that I…am a mom.

From all the baby dolls I carried around with me when I was little to the actual photos of babies I kept in my pretend purse when I was “Mom” while we played house, there’s nothing better than the real thing that fills my heart so full.
To my Little…you are my greatest gift, and no joy can compare with that of your simple existence. Tomorrow is not my day, but yours for loving you is what makes me happy.
Thank you for reminding me to stop and enjoy the small things…
Thank you for what you’ve done to my heart in one small year…
Thank you for being everything that is you…my Lainey Love…
Happy Mother’s Day to anyone who has ever let their heart be stretched by the love of a Little.
…enjoying the small things, the big things, and everything in between…and thanking God for the blessing of my perfect, precious Little. ~k
*Have to share a cute little story that shows how smarties Cubby is:
Her rocking horse came with a tiny red felt sticker on its ear that says “Press Here,” prompting you of course to press Eight Belle’s ear, making her neigh, in turn making Cubby cry, etc. After the first episode of tears after we pressed that, we decided to peel off the less-than-an-inch felt sticker and throw it away…or so we thought. Somehow, the tiny felt sticker landed in the bottom of her toy box. Well, while she was playing with her toys yesterday, she found the sticker. She picked it up and stared at it, and you could SO see the little look on her face: “Hmmmm….I know this sticker….Where have I seen this? Where have I seen this?….WAIT!!! I KNOW!!!” Suddenly, the little lightbulb look came on and she carefully held the sticker between two fingers while she high-tailed it over to the kitchen, crawling with a mission. She got to the horse, looked up at us with a smile, and STUCK THAT HEART BACK ON THE HORSE!!!! SHEER AMAZEMENT!!! Clapping, cheering…Horse and Heart have reunited!!! I am SHOCKED at the way her tiny brain works and that, at this age, all this long term/short term memory is developing! And, it was like a sign too…like she was telling us, “It’s okay, Guys. I’m almost one. I can handle this horse neighing thing now. I won’t cry.”
So proud of Smartie Cubby!
