“Red sky at night, sailor’s delight; Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.”
This morning’s sky.
I should know by now this pattern that has evolved over time with the sequence of arriving seasons. Even without the dramatic outward shifts in weather here, there is some pilot light within me that ignites with just the preface to a new season–pencils and college ruled paper for sale on the end caps in Target, camel colored swing coats and Fair Isle sweaters in JCPenney commercials, summer fruit slowly being overtaken by heaps of peaches and apples in grocery store aisles. I’m suddenly inspired–caught up in this mysterious creative current that sweeps in like a squall.
Elizabeth Gilbert explained it well a couple years ago in this TED clip–her analysis of how creativity arrives. I’ve watched it several times and always laugh at her story of how American poet, Ruth Stone, explained her “brush” with creativity–as if it arrives in a paranormal wind and when you feel it, you better grab it and use it or else it will continue its path to find another source. While I believe creativity is present in us all–it just needs to be stirred up now and then, I can relate to this “come and go” theory, especially when it arrives at the onset of a new season.
Hence the June challenge.
The burning need to craft come November.
Wash flowered sheets come March.
Write, run, bake, design, think new, think different, do better come September.
Winds come and go, and so I’m grabbing it and using it just in case it drifts away–this September storm.
*****
I ache for my Midwest this year and am hoping we can swing a trip maybe by the end of the year. Text messages and calls from family and friends exclaiming “sweater day” and football crowds and “first fire of the season” definitely aren’t helping.
But I’ll be damned if I don’t know how to make the best of what we have.
And we have Indian Corn.
And boxes in the attic with “Harvest” scribbled in thick marker across their sides. I pull a little out each weekend, saving the best for last–the silver pumpkins and the pinecone mantel swag. For now, we swap pale summer pinks for aubergines and russets.
And relish the September things that currently make me smile:
* This hat I dream of.
*…that would match Nella’s red shoes.
* Savoring late summer fruit.
Dot’s daughter, Ali, was home from Orlando for the week, and we were lucky to spend the day with her!
* “The High Bun:”
She has a repertoire of hairstyles she requests now–high ponytail, low ponytail, two ponytails, two buns, high bun, low bun, half up/half down, all down, french braid, two braids, low braid, high braid, barrette. Whew. Sister knows what she wants, and Heaven help you if, God forbid, you deliver a low bun when she asked for a high bun. I cringe at the high bun request. It’s tricky. You have to wet the brush and smooth it about a bajillion times to get the hair high enough–with no bumps. And then you wait for her approval–nervously. Watching as she stretches her hand back to assess the height. If it’s just a smidge lower than her expectations, you’re done. I actually got a text from a friend who was watching her one afternoon that said, “She asked for a bun and she keeps telling me my bun’s not a high bun. I don’t know what to do.”
I love it.
I love our people. Our P.T. and O.T. are husband & wife, and I am thankful that what once carried so much apprehension for me has become such a meaningful time in our home.
We are always thankful for every little milestone each of our children make, and right now it seems this September creative current has swept up their little minds as well. This week Nella said “shoe” and a really good version of “cracker,” and tonight, as were standing at the check-out at Publix, she looked up and pointed at a Winnie-the-Pooh balloon and smiled. I said “balloon” loudly and enough times to annoy the check-out lady and finally, my girl smiled and said her little version of what was clearly…balloon.
Guess who got to take it home?
September storms bring cleaning and weeding out old clothes, always a bit of a sad task for me.
And we crafted.
We made a button mobile for Lainey’s room. I knew I wanted to do something with a bag of buttons I had and, after a few trial and errors and a little meandering through Joann’s aisles, I discovered a cross stitch hoop was exactly what we needed. I stained it a bit to acquire the color I wanted, tied and knotted long strands of hemp cording around it, and Lainey and I went bananas gluing buttons. The result fits perfectly in her room–just waiting for Brett to hang it for us.
Finally, this September storm brings with it the challenge of more meals, more people, more love in our kitchen. We’ve been talking about it a lot, and we’re excited to clean up some bad habits of quick meals and settle into Fall with dinners around the table, music, candles, and some new recipes.
So tonight, we did it. The good silverware, the good dishes, Diana Krall crooning from the kitchen, tea lights in Mason jars, and company. I knew we needed to do it more often when, while Lainey was helping me set the table, she smiled and said “I like this day.”
I like when Lainey weasles her scooter between kitchen cupboards while I’m cooking.
*****
Finally, appropriate for the season, Jessica Clough’s Scentsy shop is back for the third month in a row for sponsorship. Girlfriend is hooked. I ordered my fall scents, and I can’t stop burning the Clove and Cinnamon bar. It’s like Norman Rockwell painting plus apple orchard plus holiday party hot wassail all in one. And it makes me excited about September. And creative storms.

I’m trying to do a better job of popping in to answer comment and FB questions when I can. And I’m revamping my Facebook page soon, so hold tight if I haven’t accepted you as a friend. My Unplugged day overlapped a bit last week–and rightly so–so I have a little bit of catching up to do.
I love this little foot that pops through the crib slats.
Storm’s a ‘brewin. Good night.

I just moved from Iowa to Las Vegas. Right during storm season, my favorite. Plus, I’m seeing way too many pictures of beautiful snow scenes. I totally understand your wanting to return to the midwest for a visit! It’s not winter anywhere and I already miss the snow!

Those calls from home about cooler weather, bonfires and plans for apple picking at Blue Jay Orchards are stirring up a little homesickness – it’s ever present but sometimes it lies dormant. It still feels like mid-July and I’m stuck in denial that it’s already September! These warm days really can trick a person into thinking it’s summer well into other seasons!
I still need to work on getting the basic decorations of my apartment down before I work on seasonal decorations. It’s a blank canvas right now, but as my bank account is crying trying to afford everything for my sister’s wedding I’m just going to have to deal with bare walls and empty shelves for awhile longer :/
Pintrest is fueling some major fall crafts though!! I’m addicted! =)
Happy Hump Day!

As our summer winded down we sort of got into the habit of not using our oven because its been so hot and we were out doing things and something fast and easy, well, it was just easier. I’m too looking forward to getting back in the habit of nice dinners and sharing meals with friends. It has a nice fallish feel to it. I’m a faithful reader. In another life I’m sure my two boys would be great buds with your girls. Thanks for sharing your life & blogging. 😉

Kelle, after months of reading your blog, I have yet to comment. Well, I needed your eternal optimism tonight. And I mean really needed it. When at times the sappy nature of your posts can downright piss me off, make me jealous, or turn me off completely (full disclosure, here)….tonight this is exactly the dose of love and comfort I needed. After all, isn’t that’s what the blogosphere is all about, anyway? Just the right dose of medicine at just the right time to soothe our wounded souls and make us feel connected. I don’t have my own blog yet, but know that it is on my radar. And you, girlfriend, are part of the inspiration to get me going on that journey. Thank you. Seriously. You will never know how much this post has meant to me tonight.

We are military and in the Pacific Northwest. Our family lives in GA and TX. Today, my husband found out that the farm he grew up on, helped his parents clear, where they ran cattle, had huge gardens and hunted deer and he had the bonfires on the weekends with the music blarin’ out the ol’ boom box-was lost in the wildfires. 3 out of 5 of the neighboring farms are gone. Nothing but black. His family sold it years ago, and his father passed away back in March, but it still hurts. Home is where you are, is what is Mom told him tonight. Please, say a prayer for the families affected by these fires.
Sorry to be a downer, but the folks in TX would love to see that sunrise bringing rain.
Thanks-Carole

Like you, I dream of the next season, right now it’s spring with the days slowly getting longer and the grass in the paddock growing so quickly you can almost see it. The block becomes a ludicrous green, and the wattles will go crazy any day now- a riot of tiny, yellow balls of fluff all over the trees. I don’t really care that it means stocking up on hay fever medication!

Storms are here in Pennsylvania – my mother is flooded in at home (house is fine, road’s underwater).
As for September, I got a lot brewing! Big, big meeting on Friday that will add some momentum to my career, then heading to Massachusetts for a conference and to visit 3 very dear friends who I haven’t seen since Winter. Cannot. Wait.
And when I return, if the adorable cat on PetFinder is still in need of a home… well, that would be the cherry on the Sundae.
Yep, September will be rockin 🙂

I started sewing because of your June Challenge, and now it’s become my September storm. Thanks for spurring me on. I just leave my sewing machine out at all times! I’m making more skirts for Nora and I volunteered to help with our 5th grade class quilt for our fundraising auction…..but I don’t quilt….Aaahhhh!!! I’m scared—haha!
Recipes: need some! Please share. I love crockpot meals in the fall and winter….have any good ones?
Mason jars and buttons: You are speaking my language!!!
SO wishing we had more P.T and O.T for Nora. Not sure how she’s doing, other than being super adorable and feisty! I am overcome with emotion every time I see Nella accomplishing new skills….GO LITTLE GIRL!
A sad story about fall fruit: We had 8 of the best peaches in the entire universe that we were saving for a peach pie (my husband is an amazing baker). They were juicy, vibrant, and not pithy at all, and we had already DEVOURED the entire rest of the orchard box (usually while standing over the kitchen sink to catch the drips from our chins….slurp!). With great strength, we refrained from eating these last 8, saving them specifically for this precious, prize winning, mouth watering pie. It was a family affair: I peeled & made a glaze, Daddy made crust, Gabe sliced, Eli stirred (Oh, and Nora tasted bites of fresh peaches :). While we waited for the timer to ding, we made sure we had milk, made an extra crust with the left-overs, and…….ignored the strange smell (blamed it on the dirty oven, “Ah, must have dripped on the element”). It was finally done and we all took our first bite…..and promptly spit it out, “BLUCK!,” I cried! The lard (yep, he uses lard….usually the only way to go) was RANCID!!! I’m still so sad, and my husband is still apologizing (poor guy). These peaches were like gold. They were a gift from a friend who owns an orchard 5 1/2 hours away. We don’t get peaches like that around here :(….isn’t this just the saddest story? Hahaha!
Again, sorry so long….I can’t help myself.
Loving your girls, your every word, your pictures, and Nella’s foot 🙂

Ahh the sweet scents of autumn and digging out the “harvest” boxes from the attic. Here is AZ it is still over 110 degrees and I just cannot fathom the change of season yet. Hey there Kelle! I love this post, you are so right. With the changing of the seasons, there is always that underlying feeling that things are going to get better, things are going to change for the good in our lives. I especially feel this with fall – and I think it definitely has to do with the Back to School feeling, and ‘bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils’ (name that movie). There was always something special about going back to school, starting another year, arriving with your new notebooks and getting out your sweaters again.
I haven’t felt this tangible, realistic sense of change in awhile. Not sense I finished college a year ago. My life has been in such a tumultuous stage of transition, and I think I’ve felt displaced. My stressors have met an all time high, and I need to start saying “no” to the things I don’t want in my life and “yes” to the things that I do want in my life.
So that is what this September is for me. I am going to start saying “no” more often, and incorporating more of “yes”. I want to focus on eating healthy and exercising, praying, and making changes at work to lessen the load. These are all lofty goals that will extend past September, but I am feeling that burst of creativity to hit the ground running.
Thanks for this post, and for giving me words when I don’t always feel like I have them. Thank you for being consistent, and thank you for sharing so much of yourself – it not only inspires me, but reminds me that it is good to share yourself with others.

I love September storms – reminds me of the smell of new schoolbooks cracked open, new school supplies (as my oldest started Grade 1 this year I was able to indulge in buying those – had a blast), cozy sweaters in rich colors, shorter days which bring the kids indoors much earlier, brisk walks in the fall air, the arrival of our west coast rains … But for now we are having record temperatures up here and I am relishing the late summer weather. I’m not in a hurry to switch to fall because I know it’s coming. Any day now, there will be a hint of crispness in the morning.
I love your photos, as always, and I love the idea you shared of making a conscious effort to have “proper sit-down dinners” with the good china. Something to strive for.
Oh… and don’t give away too many of the cute clothes…

Beautiful sunrise, we just returned from the Florida coast a few days ago and I miss our daily, multiple, trips to the beach, and the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.
Fall is in the air here, at least for a couple of days, since the weather has been unseasonably cool due to the vast amounts of rain from tropical storm Lee. And it’s put me in the mood to start hauling out the fall decor as well. I also dread the neccessary task of going through the kids clothes and weeding out what no longer fits. It’s always very sad for me, and sometimes for the kids too as they try on that favorite shirt or outfit, hoping and praying that they can still squeeze just a little more wear out of it, only to find that instead it looks like they’re wearing their little brother or sister’s clothes. It’a a tangible reminder that they are growing up, and growing out, and each day becoming a little less of me, and more of their own selves. And it makes a mama’s heart ache and swell with pride all at the same time.
Way to go Nella on your blossoming vocabulary!! And Lainey, way to go for having a strong sense of what you want, and not being afraid to push for it. That attitude will take you far d’aling!
May all your September storms be storms of creativity! Love the button mobile! My current storms are sifting through winter clothes for 4 kids and getting the castoffs hung and priced for 2 local consignment sales, and then diving back into reorganizing/revamping our main school area and working on lesson plans for the next few weeks. I’ve only got till Monday to accomplish all of it, Eeep! And right now it looks like a storm has hit my house for sure!

I love Nella’s red shoes.. and the mobile is great… I can never find embrodry hoops….and they can be used for so much.. Happy fall…
and watch out for the high bun! it will get you every time

Love Nella’s red shoes. Love the button mobile. And I got chills when I read about Nella saying “balloon.” The creativity burst in our home is mainly coming from Levi, who in the last 2 weeks has learned to wave & say bye-bye, give high-5s, & throw his hands in the air with a smile when we ask, “How big is Levi?” I am drinking it in with pride.

Oh, it just feels like a totally perfect cosy autumn day, somehow, reading and being in this post of yours!
L. o. v. e. it!
I know the feeling and I love the feeling: wanting to clean out stuff, in with something new and just…… be creative!
To us everything is new, in this new part of the country that we live in and so my huge task is being obnoxiously proactive in my social efforts!
The hubster is not at all as “happy-go-lucky-neighbor-friendly” as I am and as I make sure I try to be, so I need to be it even more!!
Even when I notice some “housewives” (we don’t really have that over here but a few women working part time at lesat) don’t really want to let me in to their togetherness at the playground
– since I’m a scary and probably very bad person who works full time and commutes and even seem to like it –
I don’t give up.
I keep being obnoxiously social and smiling.
If they are going to dismiss me, they should at least know what a happy and kind camper I am, before they do so – that’s my challenge this fall.
And there you go again – dragging aha-moments out of me, Kelle!!
Whatever would I do without you?!!!
THANK you, thank you!
I will immediately send a friend request at FB – didn’t dare disturb you until now! 😉

Great post. Nella’s shoes are adorable. Yeah for the new words. Lainey’s hair requests are great. My 8 y/o used to ask for Barbie hair…it was this complicated do that one of her Barbies had…..very hoochy-mama…but it looked cute! xo

Love that button mobile Kelle! Am doing quite a few little projects around our place at the moment….trying to make the girls room look nice. Bought a heap of crafty stuff to add to our already bursting craft cupboard, but hey….you can never have too many crafty items, right?
I am TOTALLY amazed at Nella’s vocab!! Whoooa! Blow me away…..she is talking before most mainstream kids….incredible!! Most DS kids I have met don’t even start speaking clearly until they are at least 3 years old so she really is quite advanced! Way to go Nella! My Ruby used a lot of signs (we used Makaton) and said the odd random word but it’s only really now at the age of 5 that her vocabulary is blossoming. Keep up the good work, you must be doing something the rest of us have not caught onto yet! Always love a fairy tale ending……..:)

Cooler nights, crisp mornings, clear mountain views. Autumn is coming here in Switzerland. We are in the midst of days when you can’t dress properly. You need to be bundled up a bit on the way to school but by the afternoon it feels like summer. It is that in-between time. But at night or very early in the morning, you can smell it coming. The changing of the seasons. We recently moved and I have a little pot bellied fireplace just waiting….I am so excited to smell THAT smell and spend cozy nights cuddled up with my naughties in front of her. Must think of a name for her….

I am inspired by this post. I want to clean and decorate and light candles and cook dinner! But the part that inspired me the most? Lainey’s quote: “I like this day.”

AllieRolandi–I’m so glad it made you happy tonight. Thank you for your kind words. Your honesty made me laugh, and I get it.
Moosefan–I’m so sorry about your family’s loss. Hearing from commenters that live in areas of destructive weather we see on the news always make it seem so much more real and devastating.
Keely–I’m drinking less coffee but, after a week of no coffee, I’ve had a couple cups here and there.
Kelly Cach–aah! The peaches. That’s so sad! Lainey once destroyed an almost-finished apple pie of mine with a few squirts of perfume. But at least they weren’t the best orchard apples in the universe.
Joeylee–BabyGap.
Lesley–you had me at “Switzerland” and “pot bellied fireplace.” Swoon.

Oh Indian Corn..or Flint Corn as the farmer who leases our farm calls it. We planted a block last year that was amazing..it was called strawberry something or other. This year it did not do so well, not enough rain and corn takes an enormous amount of water..so I shall buy mine. Someone told me the other day that it is perfect for popping.
High pony, low pony, pony bun, pony braided bun..all part of our daily conversation. I love that I know what she is talking about but daddy has no clue..it is a part of her day that is all mine!
Last week was a late cutting of hay, the pumpkins are peeking out from their huge leaves just to let us know they are there and I saw my first lightly tinted amber leaf on a tree the other day..Fall..oh how I dig thee! xoxoox

I LOVE the button mobile & want one for myself! I have some buttons around as well, but not sure either of my boys would love a button mobile in their rooms! ha!
And…here in south-central Pennsylvania, we are experiencing record-breaking floods! Just took some pics & posting to FB & blog soon – well as soon as baby boy agrees to a nap!

I love September…It is a fresh start. The kids go back to school, we are back into our routine and September also bring the start of all good things to look forward to: Apple picking, baking, Halloween, etc…. This is the best time of year.
Love Nella’s shoes….They are so adorable and I love that hat too. I think it would be perfect for you.
Yeah for Nella’s new words… My 18 month old is just starting to talk too. It is so cute to hear his version of the words. Makes me smile.

Oh Kelle…you finally made me somewhat excited about fall here in Canada…and I just ordered some fall scentsy bars too! I have to say that what you wrote about Lainey’s hair is EXACTLY like my 8 year old girls–high pony tails, two pony tails, hard brush, soft brush, bumps, no bumps…uuhh and heaven forbid if it is not smooth enough:) I frequently tell them after 2 tries I give up on their perfect hair quest and they have to do it themselves…LOL:) Thanks for sharing! Love your OT/ PT team…my husband and I are both OT’s…

YES! This post is spot on. I have been inspired lately. And not just the every few days I wash a load of laundry inspired. I mean, deep down soul-searching inspired. I’ve got quite a few things up my sleeve. But when you used the word “shift” well let’s just say I have a post already drafted named just that! Great minds 😉
Landon weasels his scooter in and around the cabinets too even though I swore to the heavens above that this would be a no-bikes-in-the-house kind of house. I can’t say no.
And now I’m off to find my fall decorations. I know they’re in a box somewhere.
Diana says
I was totally like Lainey when I was little- the hair had to be perfect or it needed to be redone!
I completely agree that fall brings a delightful change of pace that inspires new routines and creativity. Since I live in the midwest, I find that I’m often envious of your close proximity to the beach but I also understand your longing for midwest fall traditions.
My parents have a winter home in Naples and I often go to visit them for New Year’s. This year we want to do some of the “touristy” things and are thiniking of visitting Alligator Alley. Have you done anything there?/Do you recommend any activites? Do you know of a place that lets you hold baby alligators? (We have a request for that activity :), but I’m not sure if it’s even available).
Love your blog and I love your vibe!

Oh….I can’t wait for fall to arrive here in California! It seems we are having a late summer as the 100 degree weather has crept back into our lives. Association pools have closed and fall is everywhere while you shop…but the leaves aren’t falling yet and the air conditioner is no where near being turned off. I think I would love a midwest fall experience. Have a great day!

I miss the way the trees look in upper Michigan where I grew up, the fall is just the most splendid beautiful time of year there! though I can’t complain because I do live in IL and we do have the color changes in fall!!!

I find the best hair-dos come when I am just pulling it out of my girls face quickly so she can eat without it falling in her food, or see her face in the mirror when she brushes her teeth! But she is only 2 1/2 so this is still ‘acceptable’ to her. I am bracing myself for her ‘hair-do directions’ as she gets older like Lainey =)

September storm brewing up here in Canada – I am finally off work and have 4 weeks to ‘nest’ before the arrival of our first little one. The fall colors are inspiring me to finish decorating the nursery, pull the carrots out of my garden and cook and freeze some delicious ‘fall’ meals for after baby’s arrival.

well, i live in austin and we are trying to get through these wildfires…we WISH there was a rainstorm big enough to cover the state of texas! it’s overwhelmingly sad that over 1000 people have lost their homes, their precious photographs, etc. but my person storms a brewing some changes over here too. more time to run, more time at home with my sweet angel, and more time writing and working on photo albums. 🙂
love your blog! you are an inspiration!

I am not sure if my little Nella’s milestones speak more of her incredible determination to grasp all of life available or more of my complete ignorance about the abilities and agilities of individuals with Down syndrome! Those first hours, I was in a fog that probably reflects most people’s concept of this new territory. Hopefully, we are helping to change that…one milestone after another. She is, as I always say, “Perfectly Nella!” I loved this post, but do not be misled–it is cold and yechy here this week…a drizzle and a chill that seems to reach your bones. You have it better, my dear. Far better.

where to begin?? i always have about 10 comments as i read through and i have to remember them until the end. first of all i agree about the creativity. you have to grab it and run when it strikes. i just posted my new studio pics today you should pop over. i’m just a little proud of my new space.
love the button craft you did. that would fit right in my room:) i’m missing the midwest too. i have a feeling fall temps don’t happen here right away. they don’t even have the state fair until the end of sept…beginning of oct for some reason. that’s odd to me. have a beautiful day. a red sky must mean something exciting is just around the corner.

September always reminds me of new backpacks, freshly sharpened pencils, new school clothes and the chance to start a fresh, new year. Come September I find I’m always ready to start fresh and challenge myself with new things. Anything I’ve been wanting to try? September is the month! I love the switch over from hot sticky nights to cool ones where the breeze whistles through the windows and I sleep like a rock. This September I am starting my second trimester of pregnancy (with my second child) and with that brings even MORE longing to do new things/get things done. As far as I am concerned September is THE perfect month!

My big September storm? Getting my new blog off the ground. It may overlap into an October storm, since I’m going to school and working and caring for my husband and toddler. Whew. But hopefully my new blog will be half as successful as yours and it can maybe get me in the right direction of what my dream is: writing for a living.
Oh, another big September storm? Trying for baby #2 🙂

I’ve also TOTALLY been bitten by the creative fall bug! As my husband recently assessed, when our wax melt turns on (with all kinds of cinnamony flavors wafting around our cozy condo) it’s like the weekend beacon, harkening our friends and drawing them into our nest.
I’ve also realized that this time of year TOTALLY makes me itch to try new recipes and cook and bake, eat, wash dishes and repeat! And nothing is more satisfying than baking with babies. Kids make every season richer 🙂 Glad to see you and yours enjoying your Florida fall wonders 🙂

You are making me SO excited for fall! I’m in Wisconsin and the cold has started to slowly creep in, and I can’t wait for cinnamon scents and pumpkins! I just wanted to let you know that your blog is the one out of probably fifty that I subscribe to that I actually read every post! I absolutely love everything about it. You and your family are beautiful. And your outlook on life is so refreshing! I am 25 and mom to 3 soon to be 4! I am the mom that thinks that everything can be an experience. And who is less concerned about the cleanliness of my house than how much fun my kids are having! It is so awesome to know I am not the only one! My mother in law hates that my house isnt spotless and I hear it all the time! Keep up the good work. 😀 Thanks for the inspiration.

We live in PA, so we are literaly in the middle of the biggest rain storm I have ever seen. It has been raining hard for a couple of days now, and there’s flooding in a lot of areas. We just started our own storm, though, because we started our first week of homeschooling. It’s going really great, though. I need to go to the store to get some gel pens to make handwriting a little more exciting, but other than that, they are enjoying it.

My september change has become exercise. My daughter turns two months old tomorrow, and this week I decided to do something for myself, I have put in my exercise DVD’s everyday since Monday when baby girl takes her morning nap. Happy September! 🙂
Our September has begun with Back To School Days. I just dropped off Chloe minutes ago for her first day of 2nd grade. I’m nervous and up until now, her special education class with the same teacher, year after year, hasn’t felt like a good fit. I’m trying to remain positive (same teacher in place) hoping this is the year we’ll get it right. And the tears over she’s growing up too fast? They haven’t set in yet, even though everyone was making a big To-Do over how much she grew. Maybe it’s because I’m enjoying way too much, this moment of having the house *all to myself* for a few hours. (HAHA) We had ONE-BUSY-SUMMER, so mama needs to put up her feet a bit and REST! 😉
I, too, am looking forward to fall — yet right now in Southern California it’s a whopping 100 degrees outside — which doesn’t exactly scream “decorate for fall”. LOL. But I will, just like you, because it’s so darn fun to redecorate the house and get amped about holiday days to come. 🙂
Loved that you enjoyed a family meal together at the table! That’s one of our goals too! 🙂 Have a great rest of your week! xo

My heart filled with joy when I read about Nella saying balloon. And I love that she got to bring it home with her. It is so much fun to see the new things our babies do regardless of how fast or slow it happens. I feel the same way when I pack up Arya’s small clothes and fill the drawers with the next size up. I think I’m starting to miss my little baby. My husband and I had the talk last night of when we want to start trying for the next one. 2 more years….it seems like so long, but I’m sure it will go by way too fast. I’m definitely ready to have a little baby back in my arms again.
I love Lainey’s high bun and that she has so many different hair styles she’s into already. I bet she’ll be doing her own high bun before you know it. 🙂
I saw a little girl my walk along the bay yesterday, who looked just like Lainey. I almost stopped to take her picture, but figured her mom might not apprecaite it too much. A couple weeks ago, a lonely pair of saddle shoes sat alone on my same path. I’m pretty sure your spirit is out here with me.
My September storm is my blog, my writting and the people I keep close to me. I’m growing more and more each day and I feel like my writting is too. I only started a few months ago, so now I’m really getting into it. Thank you for being such an inspiration!
Oh, and I’ve been sending out the cards you sent me and getting all kinds of positive reactions! What a great idea Hallmark gave you. Thank you for sharing it with me. It’s helping me connect to people on a whole new level. 🙂

I’m a Scentsy addict, too. My favorite Fall scent is Autumn Sunset. It mostly smells like cinnamon and apples, but underneath the spiciness, you get the fragrance of fallen leaves on the ground. It’s perfect.
I get the whole creative wind thing with the season change. I’m feeling the same way. I love the button mobile. I’ve been considering making a mobile for the new baby coming early November. I may just try my own button mobile.

Aw, Kelle- got me thinking of autumn. Still pretty warm here in CA. Always love your words-just what I need. ** TO Allie Rolandi- YES, as you wrote, this is what is needed at times to “soothe our wounded souls”. Not sure what is hurting in you, but I send you good thoughts.**TO MySecretRooms- That is awful about the moms not letting you in but GOOD for you – with positivity. Kelle has written about hthe polarization among women/moms and I tink it is so sad and awful. We should welcome and embrace each other, period. No matter our different choices and lifestyles. Wouldnt THAT also be a great example for all the kids to see?! Oh my… Love from the Blog Mama~

The changing of the seasons, if ever so slight, excites me each and every year. I long for chilly nights so that I can cuddle on the couch with my loves. I think I shall steal your button craft idea…love it! My little one turns 4 this month and we are finally changing her nursery into a big girl room. She didn’t try climbing out of her crib until about a month ago so we have kept her in there this whole time. I am obviously not in a hurry for her to grow up. I have already raised a 24 year old and time just goes by way too quickly. You have to enjoy every moment before they are gone…wait, who am I talking to? Lots of storms brewing in my little microcosm. First, I am writing more. I’ve strayed over the past several months claiming I’ve been too busy. Lately though, I’ve been craving it, and so, whenever and where ever, I write. The biggest storm brewing is spending more time with my family. I just started back to work after a wonderful 10 weeks of maternity leave. Unfortunately, when I get home from picking up the kids, there are bottles to wash, pumping parts to steam, laundry to be done and dinner to be made. I’ve challenged myself to hold off the “chores” until after bedtime. My kids don’t need me cleaning, they need me–on the floor reading to them, playing with them and continuing to build a strong relationship with them. So as hard as it will be to let the items pile up, I know that I need to be with my kids–I have such little time with them that I want to make that precious time count.

Your button mobile just went on my Pinterest. That means I might actually make one in the near future. Love, Love pinterest. And your blog!! And your sweet girls.
Laughed when you said you like it when Lainey rides her scooter through the kitchen. I constantly fuss about bikes, skateboards, scooters flying through while I’m cooking. There’s big holes all over our walls about four inches up from the floor…why? Skateboards. But now I think I’ll just smile. There won’t always be skateboards in my kitchen. You have to know how much of a better mom I feel like I am after reading your blog. I enjoy my kids and everything they do so much more. Thank you.

We have had some non-storm weather here in Mississippi, but the fall in the air has me in “that mood.” Fall clothes shopping, thumbing through fall baking recipes, making crock pots of veggie soup even if it is still 80 degrees outside, and of course shopping for homecoming dresses for my baby girl 🙂

I’m sitting in the “school” room while my big kids do their work and they caught a glimpse of the button hanging craft…SO CUTE! We are definitely making a few for our school room. Love a little something to brighten things up 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

The storm is finally over here in New York State. The remnants of Tropical Storm Lee has evacuated over 20,000 people here in New York and flooded out who knows how many. I’m currently without work because the retail store I work at has flooded again. In 2006, it was the 100 years flood. Never to happen again in our lifetime. Five years later, we are dealing with worse flooding. It’s sad! http://www.followtheknapps.com/

Ok, here’s my storm. We moved from MI to NC 2 months ago. My oldest son started Kindergarten last week. And I’ve decided that I want to be a better person, wife, mother. I quit my job when my 19 mo old was born and I’m looking to do a complete career 180 and just got a vision for a non-profit organization (photography driven) that I’m super excited about and have no idea how I’m going to do it yet, but know that it will make a difference – and that makes me smile. Bring on the rain 🙂

Kelle – I was thinking about you this morning when I was trying to get through Alex’s hairdo routine. I get it. I’m living it daily. Alex doesn’t have as much of a full repertoire yet, but there are specifics. The pony tail goes from wanting it high to wanting it low. Always wanting it tightly braided; not loose, but really tight. And then adding the bows and snap clips one at a time. And if THOSE accessories are a touch out of place, rip it all out and start over. Yesh! I can’t stand the “inspection” of her feeling out the hairdo before stating her excitement or distain.
But I look at it as she has an opinion and understands what she wants; and I love that she’s starting to vocalize her desires. I have a feeling that she’s going to be detail oriented like her mama!
And finally, we had a red sky at night last night. An actual sky after 7 days of rain.
Happy weekend,
Jennifer from Annapolis

Not sure if I’ve commented before, but I *love* your blog. I think it just seems I often have too much to say to even leave a comment, but I’m here; looking and reading.
We live in Oklahoma, but my husband is from Florida and keeps telling me which days are “perfect beach weather.” Having never lived near a beach it is driving me crazy! (As have your and other friends’ beach posts!)
That is so awesome that you got a married team of therapists! So cool! Our son (with Down syndrome) is due in early January, so I have no idea who we’ll have for anything as of yet.
I am LOVING the button mobile! I have a collection of vintage and not-so-vintage buttons, but am usually short on ideas on ways to use them, aside from just perusing the collection from time to time. Awesome idea! I wonder how it would do if you knotted the buttons onto the string…
Again, love your blog!
