The Mile High Club

August 4, 2011 By Kelle

Well this is very 2011: posting from the skies.

I am currently wedged in a window seat–26 A, the furthest from the front–while two men sleep a little too comfortably beside me. Nella is tucked away in her pouch, and I am taking it all in.

From my window, I can see through a few pockets of open air in a thick layer of clouds to make out the Ohio River snaked around a vast grid of streets and fields.

I like adventure. I love the opportunity to explore new places, meet new people, embrace new landscapes. But every time there’s a ticket booked and it doesn’t involve our entire family, I wig out a few days before. This trip was no exception. I almost made a last minute decision to cancel everything last night after a few hiccups in our plans, but alas (I love alas), I am here. In the clouds. A Mile High.

I have a good stash of home memories from the week to balance the next few days of travel adventure.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Nella feeding herself with O.T. She insists on feeding herself now.

Photobucket

And a nice hunger for California adventure to balance out our homey pleasures.

Nella and I enjoyed a layover hidden in the dark corner of an airport burger joint. She’s been a little gem so far.

Photobucket

But her kicks to our sleeping neighbor right now suggest Sister wants to stretch her legs and move. Soon. As in four hours when we get out of this sky cell.

Photobucket

My battery light is blinking, so moving quick.

Early Friday Phone Dump as I don’t know what we’ll be doing tomorrow.

Photobucket

And a welcome to our new sponsor, The Pat-a-Cake Baby. Check out their fine selection of hip baby accessories.

We love their bibs (I never thought about bibs much when Lainey was little, but I can’t get enough of cute, unique patterns this time around).

Photobucket

One of their best selling items is their wet bag, perfect for keeping wet clothes separate in your bag/purse (great for Florida beach and pool trips!)

Photobucket

And, after finding out yesterday one of my good friends is expecting a girl, I can’t wait to give her this new swaddle wrap.

Photobucket

One random commenter on this post will win a $30 gift certificate from The Pat-a-Cake-Baby, and use code KHBLOG for 20% off on purchases from the site.

Man waking up beside us. Battery fading. Nella kicking.

More from California soon.

Wet bags are a godsend, no doubt about that. I live in the SF Bay Area, where in CA are you headed ?~! I moved here eleven years ago from Sarasota County-Englewood specifically, but in the thirty years I was there I lived all over the place from Key West to Deerfield to E-wood. Climate here is so different, it took a few years to get acclimated but now I love 65-70 degrees and wouldn’t want to have to return to your neck of the woods. (we don’t have bugs here)

The sky cell reference made me think of my daughter’s doctor appt. last week. It took an hour longer than expected because she wouldn’t pee, and it felt like a cell to me and my two other kids. We were all begging her to please pee! Hope you have a great trip!

Super impressed that you can manage to fit a laptop and a baby on your lap and still manage to type wedged between 2 sleeping men! Not sure how you accomplished that one but hat’s off to you! I know Ruby would have deleted everything I typed (if I even managed to fit the laptop on my lap with her there in the first place (and I have travelled quite a bit with littlies…) and probably rearranged my hard drive too. As my soon gets a little older and there’s less need to lug around his huge diaper bag, I find myself cramming all kinds of things–including wet swimsuits–into my purse. And I need a second one for my gym clothes! They’re soaked after a workout, and it sure would be nice to keep them separate from the other stuff in my gym bag…

As you have your little one tucked into a pouch on the plane I have a litle one nursing and the toddler serving me from her kitchen.

I LOVE wetbags, as a cloth diaper user I use them on a daily basis, but they have SO many great uses outside of a diaper holder.

I am just wondering was Nella awake or asleep whilst you were blogging next to the sleeping gentlemen? Our girls are the same ageish and I imagine from a first hand perspective when I read your blog. So fun. Such precious times when they are so portable and yummy. We cloth diaper. And as much as I love my pretty diaper bags. I am always sneakily stashing my soiled cloth diapers in a loud crinkly wadded up old walmart bag. Would love to whipe out something pretty and functional to stash my sweet girl’s “business”. Bookmarking their site ๐Ÿ™‚

Quick question, is that an Amber necklace that Nella is wearing in the first pic, she is feeding herself. If so, how do you like them, do they help with her teething? Thanks! FTM

Can’t even count how many bibs, burp clothes, towels, blankets, outfits (for BOTH of us) we go through in a day. Nora spits up. All day. Every day. So tiresome. We are smelly and stained. And it’s embarrassing. Yes, I shower and she takes a bath every morning and I do laundry every day, but a stranger would never know it :(. Cute bibs would at least be…..cute.

every sunday morning i get my ‘alone’ time away from my husband and three sweet babies and i chose to spend that precious time (45 min. – an hour) reading your blog. sundays are my days to find inspiration (from God, people, moments) that will keep me and the littles busy all week long. in many ways you’ve given me a can-do, so what if it fails, who cares if everyone thinks i am crazy…we’re getting in the car and going type of attitude. we just took our 2 toddlers and 2 month old baby camping for the first time ever, five hours away from home in the middle of a national forest. a month from now we are flying the entire family to oregon while my husband attends to work there and i’m just going to explore with them. often times i find myself thinking how much fun it would be to spend an afternoon with you and your lovely girls. thank you for sharing your life.
