Can I just say I’m loving this Hallmark gig? I’ve read every single comment you’ve left. There are some great stories out there, and I am inspired. Thank you for sharing.
My mom says she has this dream every once in a while. She dreams that we’re little again, and she’s back in the days of rocking us, reading stories, holding our hands as we walk across streets to parks and picnics and little adventures. She says that when she wakes up, for one second she thinks we’re still little and in her house, and that when she realizes we’re not, there is a moment of heartache–this paralyzing reminder that those days are gone, and we have moved on.
I think about this a lot.
I know my mom is happy–that she has supported our independence and explorations away from home. I know that I will be happy, supporting their independence and explorations from home. But I also know that what I have right now–two little people who comfortably remain in the security of this sliver of time where they are ours–is fleeting. During adventures like yesterday where one is slung to my hip and one is holding my hand, guiding me toward where she wants to go, and little friends and friends’ mamas are circled around us, I think to myself, “I’m going to miss this.”
As we grow, we will each stretch toward new independence–the girls toward their interests, their friends, their dreams and myself toward–well, my interests, my friends, my dreams. It will be good. We will still be intimately connected in new and exciting ways…but I know I’m still going to miss this.
So, yesterday morning I shoveled bananas into Nella’s mouth a little more quickly and swigged my coffee in all of three swallows to get out the door on time to make our early appointment with friends. It was a five alarm fire.
I have this friend who is great at making things happen. Interesting playdates beyond park and other park and park two streets over from other park. She’s all “I’ll arrange a fire station tour or call a local horse farm or set up a ceramics session in my friends’ garage” and I’m all “Sister, you are the coolest.”
Today was fire station day.
And when you have eight little kids topped with chief hats propped up on the shiny front of a fire truck, let me tell you, the scene on the other side is a little crazy. A lot of crouching and clicking and “Look here!” and “Nella, Nella, Nella!” and moms’ butts up in the air as we contort our bodies to get a different angle. And hot firemen are laughing through all of it–this lovely crowd of photo-snapping mamas who are well aware this sliver of time while they are ours is fleeting.
Nella drove the truck.
But gave up her seat for the real chief who was kind and patient and so fantastic with our kids. He took us for a ride with sirens and all.
Consequently, Lainey’s been mimicking the sounds of a fire truck around the house. It’s really great.
Thank you, Rebecca, for arranging fun that extends beyond the park.
Which isn’t to say we don’t still love our parks. Other park delivered yesterday too. Because something had to put out our fire, and “the powk with the spwinkwers” did the trick.
August in Florida is synonomous with balmy and sticky or, for some, heat stroke and short-of-breath. We need our sprinklers and pools and popsicles.
While September doesn’t exactly relieve us of the heat, I am looking forward to the psychological shift for me, the Midwest pre-programming that allows me to believe it’s crisper, cooler and ripe weather for Fall traditions. Joann’s has their scarecrows and wheat wreaths out now. I’m just sayin’.
Until then, I’ll savor the sliver while they are little and mine.

A big happy “Welcome Back” to sponsor Mountain Aven Baby who has exactly what I’m looking for in apparel for my kids: funky fabrics (London and NYC maps, owls, sushi, and pages more!) great colors, wearable designs and lots of fun pieces Lainey pulls out of her closet and begs to wear on her own. The store is chocked full, and clicking through their designs is fun whether you buy or not. A little buying incentive: Use Code ENJOY10 for 10% off your order.
Lainey’s skirt: New Spring Twirl Skirt, Mountain Aven tote bag too!
One commenter will be randomly selected from this post to win a $25 gift certificate to Mountain Aven Baby. School’s back in session for many of you, and routines are shifting as the calendar slowly moves toward fall. What do you love most about this time of year–the summer/fall transition?
Happy Day.

I love this post! My son’s BFF’s dad is our local fire Lieutenant. They often walk over after school and do their homework at the fire station and hang out with the guys.
My favorite transition into fall is Steelers Football!!! Preseason tonight!! yay!!

wow, I love my girls so so much! Thank you for helping me keep focus on them. I want to frame the photo of Nella smiling on the swing – she is pure sunshine π

This was a five alarm event. How wonderful to teach children early what wonderful “friends” our firemen and policemen are to us. What a great bunch of civil servants–to patiently and graciously welcome the little ones into the fire station. Thanks for recording it. Have a great day!

I love the little blonde boy looking up admiringly at the fire-chief in that first picture of all the kids on the firetruck bumper – so sweet!
I also can’t believe I’m in the first dozen or so comments!!!
Let’s see, what I love about the fall would be….MSU marching band!!!!!!!! π
Jessica says
The pictures of the girls at the Fire Station makes me want to set up a playdate at our local fire station asap. The thing I love about the shift from summer to fall is the weather. Tennessee summers are hot hot hot and humid. The need for the warmth without the humidity is crazy. I also love the cool mornings we get. Ohhhh fall. Its my favorite time of year.
Nicole says
The transition from summer to fall is my favorite seasonal shift. After nice days with breezes that smell like falling leaves and the last days of grilling out, the evenings are cool enough for jackets and hot coffee on the lanai. And nothing beats seeing fog clinging to the air above the lakes and pools before the sun burns it away. It may not be the dramatic shifts that come with living in the Midwest, but Florida knows how to do fall, too!
The mum of all trades says
Gorgeous pictures.I have to stop the car everytime we pass the fire station, my son is Fireman Sam crazy.

First, I am going to call my fire station here in Fort Myers and arrange a tour! What a fantastic idea! Secondly, I am looking forward to burning a cinnamon apple candle, while watching Gator football and eating meatballs from the crock pot. That screams FALL to me!

I LOVE Fall. I live in Michigan and love the feeling of putting on a sweater after so many hot, sticky days. I love apple orchards and haunted houses. I think I would have some of the same adjustment issues as you if I were to move to Florida. Love the fire station pictures!!!
Ariel says
I love the thought that baking a pumpkin pie is just around the corner…even if it will still be hot down here in TX. I love the fall fashion; cardigans, boots, plaid, and denim. I love that even though we are half a country away from all our loved ones, I can count on my Mom to send us back-to-school care packages that are almost as good as a real visit (she is so good!), and I love that as my kids grow a bit older, each season and holiday becomes a bit more real and exciting for someone other than myself! Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes also get me all sentimental and happy!
MSLibLady says
That looks like such a fun playdate! As always, I love your pictures. The one of Nella smiling at the end is my favorite. She melts my heart.
I just said to my husband last night I’m looking forward to cool nights outside where we can wear long sleeves but still run around and play baseball or something fun. I love fall.
LifeStylePhotog says
Oh I <3 me some FALL! I’m already dreaming of jeans and sweaters. busy sat afternoons with the kids fall sports… lazy sundays of cooking yummy stuff in the crockpot… jumping in giant leaf piles and cozy afternoons on the couch with the background sound of football through house. Bring it fall!!

Yes, let’s enjoy the slivers, cause although I sang “Happy Birthday” to my littlest this morning with a smile on my face, my mommy-heart broke into a million pieces at the though of him turning 5 today….my littlest is not that little anymore

Cute post..looked like a fun day for the kids.
Summer/Fall transition? I cry alot. Love the summer & the heat & the light. But while Fall reminds me that winter is just around the bend, I relish the colors, the leaves changing, more candles, cinnamon spice donuts, the little refreshing nip in the air that makes breating a little easier & oh…the decorating! I start in September & keep adding & changing them until after the New Year.
Jannice says
That picture of Nella in the swing is adorable π I can also feel the inside shift to fall happening…originally from NY and relocated to Vegas 10 years ago. Me and my girls just got back from a 6 week trip to NY – I’m trying to adjust to being back in the desert, but wow do I miss home!! I can’t stand that time is slipping away and my babies are growing. My Ella is starting 1st grade and my youngest Ava is starting K. No more weekday playdates. I HATE that that chapter has closed! I want a time machine! I can already feel that ache inside. last year when Ella started K, I was sobbing after I dropped her off. But, at least I still had Ava home with me. This year they’re both in school! I told my husband that he will find me in a corner somewhere rocking myself. But now we are still enjoying our last weeks of summer : )
Jamie says
What a fun play day! Great idea. My favorite thing about fall is the crisp air, the falling leaves, the brand new boxes of Crayola crayons.
Bean Sprouts says
We drive the long way to daycare every morning, an extra 10 minutes and a few miles out of our way just so we can drive by the local fire station and hopefully get a glimpse of the fire truck. It’s the highlight of my sons morning. I never thought about trying to set a play date up there. It’s on my list now!

Hi Kelle-I’m a G’ma past the savoring and slivering w. mine but definitely enjoying it this time around w. G’kids; oldest son & wife expecting twins soon! They’re going from 1 to 3 – skipping right past 2! But I really loved “While September doesn’t exactly relieve us of the heat, I am looking forward to the psychological shift for me, the Midwest pre-programming that allows me to believe it’s crisper, cooler and ripe weather for Fall traditions.” My Wisconsin-born husband claims that for Texas too! Says it’s the light!
Life with Kaishon says
I get scared that the time is flying too quickly. I just want him to stay little longer. At the ripe old age of 11, I know my days are more numbered than ever before. Some moms hate summer because the kids are up under them every moment…i love it more than anything in the world.
Kate Giovinco Photography says
Oh my the firehouse pictures made me smile ear to ear. Oh the joy they must have felt that day.
I am looking forward to peach picking and the transition into Apple Picking with one of my favorite girls. We go annually and someday when we have children I am sure they will tag along. We go to the orchard one day and then on another day we get together and bake.

What I love about fall is being able to layer clothing w/ stylish accessories. Hoodies, coats, scarves – especially since sun is scarce in some parts of San Francisco.

Nella driving the fire truck I love the expression on her face. It is one of sheer determination to get to that fire.

What a great idea! A Fire Station playdate…I may have to see if I can make that happen this year for my kiddo + friends.
Your posts really make me think, smile, reflect, often choke me up but mostly just give me pause. Thanks for that. It’s something that this Mama needs, every day.

I’m so glad I ran across your blog! And this particular day spoke to me so deeply. I have a 20year old that has left home, a 17 year old that can hardly wait to leave home and a 6 year old that, thank God, still thinks mommy hung the moon. So I am in all phases. The “you’re gone but we’re still so close”, the “please don’t leave me” and the “what do you want mommy to make you for dinner” phase. Thanks for sharing. It is all so bittersweet!! π
Erin says
My mother is always saying how she feels like we were babies just yesterday. Now we are grown with children of our own and more babies on the way. I never understood it until I had a child of my own. Now I look at my 2 yr old and wonder where the time is going. As he reaches for my hand as we we walk I enjoy every minute of his little hand in mine because I know that soon enough he will be a teenage running off on his own. Thank you once again for reminding me to enjoy this sliver in time!

This time last year I was pregnant with my little one so I am having total nostalgia!

I love love your blog and the beautiful pictures of your girls! As for fall… I live “up north” (all the way up in Pennsylvania!) so the colors that our hills take on is one of my favorite parts of fall. It starts in the beginning of September, and by mid-October everything is on fire. Also, I looove the honeycrisp apples we will start getting late September. They taste like wine, only crunchier.
lori says
what a beautiful post! i love that ya’ll took the kids to the fire station. and great pictures, as always.

Love your blog Kelle!! Your photography makes me want to fork out the cash for a DLSR!!! I also think your kids are very very lucky to have a mom like you – I think you inspire a lot of people!
My favorite things about fall are:
*When I can start making fall comfort foods like pumpkin pie, stews, soups, etc.
*When our husky jumps around and destroys the piles of leaves (no kids yet, so don’t pick me for the prize).
*Fall colours and the frosty morning air when it smells like wood fires.

I just love this post! We are bringing our daughter home in a few months, so I’ve been using your blog to learn about life with Down Syndrome (um… and creative decorating, taking better photos, and cute kids’ clothes). THANK YOU.
As far as the seasons go, I just love the transition period (now for us!). Warm, sunny days with just-cool-enough-for-a-hoodie nights. I ate a s’more last night, knowing it was probably my last for the year! They taste the best.

I love to attend a local craft fair in the middle of September, not to buy anything but to Sit in the warm sun and listen to music. It is one of my favorite fall things to do!

I don’t have children in school yet but fall is my FAVORITE time of year so when I see school supplies start filling the aisles I get a little twinkle in my eye anticipating cooler days to come and cardigans and crisp mornings…ahh…

I LOVE the pumpkin patch with the corn pool! Our daughter is 1.5 so she will be able to partake in this fun event this year!! I love the changing colors of the leaves as well!! I love that the weather will be changing soon and I won’t sweat as soon as I step outside. π
The Lincolns says
What an amazing outing! I’ll have to bookmark it in my memories to recreate for our play group.
I’m due on Sunday with my 2nd boy so I’m looking forward to including him in all of our fall traditions. We’ll have 4 pumpkins this year instead of 3! And I’m REALLY looking forward to wearing non maternity fall clothing even though, like you guys, we don’t get much of a shift in weather. I still rock out the scarves and hats and sweaters π

Fire Chief Nella driving the rig is very darling. That one goes in the photo book for sure!! Keep enjoying that sliver of time. It’s so wonderful to recognize it as it is happening. Amazing. Oh, and this time of year I love cool mornings opening up to hot afternoons only to circle back to a cool evening again. xo
Inspiração Inesperada says
Fire trucks + kids = coolest play date ever!
What I love most about the summer-fall transition is preparing the nesting mode at home, since we’ll soon begin spending more time indoors!

You post about this topic a bit and I need it every time. It truly has changed my perspective and brightens my day every time. I take less for granted and snuggle more, am more patient and loving and overall, just a better Mama!

I LOVE FALL!!!!! I love all the colors, yellows, browns, oranges, and I love to get my little ones out in the leaves and snap all kinds of pictures!! My little gal loves to wears beanies, so I can’t wait to put her new one on and make some fall pictures!! I have to say I love running and jumping in the leaves as well, being from KY we usually have a really pretty fall especially around all the lakes, the scenery is really pretty!!!

Fall transistion…new crayons, crisp mornings, first day of school pics and clothes, leaves….all the leaves. Fall is my favorite I think it is the season with the most promise for new beginnings and fresh starts.

Its funny that you write this today because I was just reminded last night of this sliver of time they stay tiny when my baby girl refused to nurse before bed then I had to get everything ready to take my oldest to his first day of Kindergarten today. Its very bittersweet. My favorite part of fall is watching the colors change and it getting cool enough to wear fun scarves and jackets.
Greta: From Transparencies of Motherhood says
This made my heart ache…I constantly think of how quickly they grow and find myself getting frustrated at my frustration when they won’t “hurry up” with whatever we’re doing or to get wherever we’re going. Thank you again for the reminder to slow down and enjoy all the little things too.

My fav this time of year – school supplies! I used to love buying supplies and was so sad when I started working and would walk up and down the supply aisles realizing I didn’t need cool folders and mini staplers for my desk/office. Now that I am a mama though I am truly looking forward to my days of buying notebooks and pencils – it will come soon!
Susan says
Sigh. Fall. I do love it, I swear, and I think it’s my favorite season, but I’m having a hard time giving up summer just yet. Our oldest started kindergarten yesterday (Laney!) and I’m having a hard time getting used to the hectic mornings. And putting little ol’ her on that big ol’ bus. But if I must, I’m really looking forward to cooler days, layers, crisp air, and the smell of roasting green chiles in the air (we live in New Mexico). I just have to get used to all this new routine and then I’ll be ready to enjoy it.
I love those pictures of Nella at the end!!

Thanks for your always inspiring posts. Favorite things about fall: crisp air, colors, and end of season harvest.

Well, we dont get much of the “change of seasons” here in SoCal…but I LOVE the clothes color transition. The deep purples, burnt oranges, jeweled greens….and I love that on cooler nights you can still sit outside and eat, because its still not cold π

I am the “Bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils” Meg Ryan from You’ve Got Mail person. I live in Louisiana- have my whole life- so we don’t feel fall until late October. But- fresh school supplies, are like the ultimate starting over symbols. Packs of blank lined paper- oh the potential. New clean backpacks. Sharp pencils with full bodied erasers -(insert wolf call). Yes I am a little off center from normal but holding a brand new book, crisp from the manufacturer is one of life’s little thrills for me.

Love the fire station idea!! I cant wait until my {still cooking} baby is old enough to do stuff like that! How great!
I live in Canada, so even though it’s unbearably hot in August and most of September.. mis way through fall hits and hits hard. Leaves, wreaths, apple picking, scarecrows – the whole shebang.
I cant wait for this… plus scarves. I miss scarves.

My 4 yr old son came over to ask me a question, but got so entranced by all the firetruck pictures. Then he started asking to go see one, “Please?” He would definitely get a kick out of that.
I too live in Florida and dream of the North’s fall and winter seasons. I simply get giddy when I walk into a store and see all the Fall decorations out. Since I can’t have fall weather, I want to turn my whole house into fall.

My little sliver of time with my four girls (youngest now 26:)went by way too fast….but now the grandkids!!! The sliver continues!
Minimalist Mommi says
I’m sure the firemen loved the visit. With a hubby who’s trying to get hired, I hear these playdates are the best for the firehouse because 1. They get to avoid cleaning & such and 2. There are {hot} moms. Really, you all did them a favor π
Secondly, what I look forward to? Under 100 degree temps. That probably won’t happen until October for us here in AZ, but hey, we can dream.
Heidi Lee says
I too love the transition into fall because I know Christmas is getting closer and Christmas is my absolute FAVE….HOWEVER, you’ll notice, when your kids start school life seems to go by even faster.
It makes my stomach drop to think that Crisilee has 5 years left of school and then she is gone. GONE.
So at the moment I am trying to freeze anything from coming, and holding onto Darby just a bit tighter..she is 5 and those years FLEW.

Awww…I wanna playdate momma like that!!! Nah….maybe I should just BECOME that playdate momma. That would be the bomb diggity. How fun!?! Love, love, love those quirky designs. Oh, yes…and the pic of you kissing miss nella.

I love your blog! I love your photos! I wish I had your talents! My older sister, Mary Grace, has Down Syndrome. She’s the 9th of 10 kids and she turned 47 this year. It was a different world when she was born in 1964. My parents soon divorced and my mom really struggled with her. But she is fiesty! And funny! She loves to tease, and she’ll always be a child at heart. She thinks Justin Beiber is her boyfriend, and we let her. She’s lived at a home for the developmentally disabled since she was 6, because that’s what they did back then. She’s still there and she loves it, it’s her home. St. Mary’s of Providence in Chicago has been so good to her, good to all of us. My parents are gone now, and my siblings and I take turns having her in hour homes during her “home” weekends. Over the years she’s made us laugh, made us crazy, made us scream outloud, but she’s also made us better people. Without a doubt. And I don’t know why I’m telling you this. I just wanted to let you know how much I love your blog and your photos. And I do! Thank you for writing!

My oldest turned 3 yesterday so I totally get that sliver and I see just how quickly it really going by. The conversations we have and the quirky quick comments she makes tells me that she is growing ever so quickly.
My bestie and I were talking yesterday, she was telling how it felt when her youngest now in first grade can take a shower and bath himself. Said it really just broke her heart that her baby was capable of doing this all on his own without the help of his momma. She said “you just wait, my cell will be blowing up when Finley starts pulling away. You’ll be all my baby doesn’t need me. But that’s okay cause I will be here for you, just call”.

I am so torn on my girl growing up…love it and hate it at the same time. I have taken a few pictures lately and I can almost see what I have always pictured she is going to look like when she is an adult..it literally shocks me at times. I get this sick little feeling in the pit of my stomach. I think I must be a bit of a control freak because I don’t want things to change. But at the same time I love the changes I see in her..she is so creative, wickedly funny and someday she is going to be extremely independent..the last being what I think is going to rip my heart apart..lol.
My favorite things for fall would probably be the changes that go on at our farm:
1.Cow round-up when they move the cows from the pastures to the barn..always a blast to watch.
2.Tractors in the fields cutting late hay..love sitting on my patio watching it on a cool evening.
3. And of course the frost on the pumpkins and leaves on a crisp fall morning..awhh..bring it on!
p.s. I really love the Hallmark gig as well..cried the first time I read it, sobbed the second time I read it.

Another awesome blog post! thankyou! My absolute favorite thing about fall, is the feelings it brings. I love the wy the weather cools down, but its not freezing, just little more breezy, cool, and oh so colorful. I love the memories that it brings. WHen the weather of fall comes it reminds me of when our first bby girl was born (in september ) i love the way smells, sounds, weather, cn bring back memories in an instant. plus our second daughter is born in december so i also strt to get those feelings of they’re growing up, and just like you said, relising how its so fleeting,
now we have an october bub…but her birthday will mrk a huge milestone for our family. all the things that went wrong at her birth, all the crzy emotions, all the trial, …it will be a painful reminder of all those bad things, of my injuries, that im still healing,..but it will be such a triumph. We have made it a year, we are stronger, we have an amazing “magical” girl…she has blessed so many beyond our own family. *sigh
I LOVE fall!!
thanks kelle…for setting me back on memory lane for a while. haha now i have that nostalgic feeling…maybe I’ll go blog about it. I’m inspired. love ya

Lainey’s bedroom is amazing Kelle!!! i love all the attention to detail and the chandelier (my friend had one in her room in highschool and her room was the coolest) i really loved this post because i think it models good positive ideas for moms/kids. get together and do something intersting and fun!! i agree the fleeting littleness is so bittersweet. i’m really struggling with this lately. my favorite part of the season change is “back to school shopping” (even though bayley doesn’t go to school yet, we still scored some awesome fall tunics and leggings) and candles like macintosh and ginger cardamom. oh and chai tea made on the stove with simmered milk and honey. i’m excited : )
take care

I love this post, it makes me tear up. I try not to think about when my littles are going to move out, such a scary feeling. So much so that I find myself always trying to squeeze so much in…like time is ticking away and if i dont hurry im going to miss and opprotunity. I too love this time of year! I love end of summer block parties, and the cool nights that have alright hit us that make for perfect settings for campfires:) And as fun as this summer has been it’s been crazy busy! and im looking forward to life slowing down a bit so we can settle into more of a daily routine.

I’m a Michigan girl, so my favorite thing about the turn of seasons to autumn is the cider mill. Every year pick a sunny day to visit Yates Cider Mill and get a paper bag of still-warm-from-the-oven cinnamon sugar donuts, a gallon of cider, and maybe a caramel apple. We walk along the river or down the trail behind the mill and enjoy the sunshiny-yet-cool fall weather, and try to ignore the bees who want to share our bounty.

I Love visits to the firestation with little kids -That was my favorite field trip we went on when I taught preschool.
I love the transition from Lazy to crazy – I think about wearing comfy sweaters or drinking something warm in the mornings and I love the crisp fall air – to me i means something new is starting and the possiblities are endless -our pumpkin that is now the size of a tennis ball will get bigger and excitement will grow as we check to see if it is ready. I also have to say I love that football season is here – that means fantasy football is here and I refuse to do as badly as I did last year. There is so much look foward to and I can’t wait.

I was sorting through old photos with my grandma, and I commented that I can’t believe my baby is turning 16. She returned with, “I can’t believe my baby is turning 60!” As we laughed, there was that moment that we clicked as more than just granddaughter and grandmother, we were two women, two mothers, understanding that same feeling of nostalgia and wonder.

I’ve had dreams similar to your mother’s.
My daughter will be 22, and my boys are 19, and 17. My youngest child will graduate high school at the end of this school year. I can’t begin to tell you how often I wish they were little again. How often I wish, I hadn’t wished, they would grow up! But, there they are.
They don’t need me, yet, they need me. They are breaking away, yet, they still come running back. It’s a strange place to be in, for me. Not being needed right this minute, but, at some point today, I’ll be needed oh! so much. At the point where they need me, I can see them, once again, little fat legs, and toothy grins running to me. Ahh, getting teary!
Motherhood is an amazing gift – a wild ride I am so fortunate to be on.
Your blog is wonderful, your photos – beautiful! My daughter even loves to take a peek, now and then.

The pictures of Lainey with her Daddy slay me….this post and last. I just adore when my kids love on their Daddy and Brett seems like he just revolves around his girls. Such sweet and priceless pictures.

Once again Kelle, your post hits me right in the heart… I had just returned from dropping off my baby girl at her first day of kindergarten and still had mascara streaks on my cheeks as I read your post. Slivers in time is exactly right. Coincidentally, that is also what I love most about this time of year – the bittersweet feeling of moving on… Leaving a grade/season/whatever behind and moving on to the next one. Sweet, but bitter too.

Fall reminds me that change is inevitable and necessary. I resist change in many ways, but Fall is my favorite time of the year in Denver.

Too many favourite’s about the transition! The cool crispness that has already fallen in the mornings (we almost need hats before 7), the promise of afternoons spent entirely outside (instead of hiding in the AC from 11-3) and definitely fall harvest!

My girl’s daddy is a fireman. The magic of a fire station never gets old. My oldest recently got to see her daddy slide down the fire pole. You should have seen the pride in her face!

oh gosh, I’m dreading the day my babes grow up. I love these pudgy faces and sweet little voices. But as my son nears 7, I realize that it stays pretty fun and adventurous, the older they get. I love watching the people they’re becoming and the individual thinkers I’m raising π
Loved all the pics. My girls had a blast seeing Lainey at the water park and Nella in her yellow bathing suit π
Emily says
Hard to pick just one – I love this time of year…the smells of crisper air, the promise of cooler nights, the bounty of harvest, the homeiness of days spent baking, reminders that summer is fleeting and needs to be soaked up RIGHT NOW, all of it – I love it!!!
Alzbeta says
I am trying to savor each moment of each day right now. I know I can’t stop my little one from growing… and that I really don’t want to – but at least I can know that I loved her as she deserved right now.
As far as the fall loveliness… I just love the coziness. I love making soups and stews and chilis (because it really does get cool here), feeling like it’s “football weather” (even if I don’t care who’s playing) and cuddling up with my loves.
Jamie says
I actually HATE this time of year! I don’t want my kids to start back to school. I love them to be home with me. Summer’s are way too short- I need more time. No more bbq’s, lazy mornings, sunscreened faces, late evening sunsets, weekend camping trips. I need MORE!!!

Oh my goodness that photo of Nella in the swing. . . love it so much! You are such a great photographer and I love how your photos are very natural and not over edited. Just lovely.

I was just thinking yesterday, while cuddling my two month old son, that I will never get this time back. He will never be the itty bitty guy we brought home from the hospital again. It made me kind of sad. I logged on to read your blog today, and it was a perfect reminder to enjoy every minute! π

Kelly, thanks so much for this post … I have three young boys (8, 6 and 3) with a daughter on the way in 4 weeks. So many times I’m overwhelmed and think, “When they get bigger, it will be easier.” And then I panic a little because I’m about to “start over” again with an infant.
But I DO know that one day I will miss their dependence on me, their infatuation with me, their constant need for my approval and attention. Thank you for the reminder that these days are to be cherished.

My nephew had a birthday party at a fire hall last year, the kids were absolutely enthralled by everything and nothing was cuter than 3 year olds in grown up fire suits!
Love the pics, they reminded me of the fun day we had!

What I love most about the summer/fall transition is when the sun is still shining, but there’s a nice breeze in the air – and you can take an afternoon walk without coming home sweaty. π

Summer…Fall Transition means a schedule for my girls which they thrive on, getting back to school. I used to love going back to school each fall. I met my best friends in elementary school all 7 of them and I am lucky enough to still be able to call them my best friends and have them in my life. The beginning of fall brings the promise of more memories.

I really needed this post!! It is so easy to get swept up in the day to day frustrations of raising a 1 and 3 year old while your husband travels each week. I need to really step back and love each minute because they really do go by so quickly!
Being from the midwest, I can’t wait for fall to come. My favorite part is watching the leaves change color and then dropping to the ground to make wonderful piles for jumping. And I am having a fall party this year that I am so excited about – all thanks to your party you had last year!
As always, you inspire me to do more and be more!

So sweet. Yet so heartwrenching at the same time. I think I’ll bookmark this post for those days when life just seems a bit overwhelming. I have an almost-two year old and a 3 week old-both boys, and life has changed dramatically now with 2 boys instead of 1 and I know it will only change more once they get a little older.
But I, too, know that I will miss these days.
Jenn (Life's Sweet Melody) says
I completely get the sliver of time in your post. Lately I find myself pausing to take things in because of how fast it is going. My oldest is four and if she had her way she would have started school last year. Now we’re in the final year before we start the whole school journey and I find it a little bittersweet. I’ve treasured my time with my four year old but have to admit I take things in that much more with my 8 month old knowing how quickly the years pass. These are precious moments & memories…

I love the individuality that is expressed by my kids through their school supplies. So much fun to see what they’ve chosen!! I really enjoyed your fire station field trip pictures. Thanks for sharing your adventures with all of “us”. Happy to be enjoying the sliver with you!! Heather

Mountain Aven Baby! Love their bibs and skirts. Ordered a whole slew of them a while back for baby gifts. My little Josie wears the sushi printed one and I hope some day she adores sushi as much as her mommy & daddy do.
Got the Tea pot skirt for my Geneva and she loves it.
Looking forward to digging fall clothes for the girls out of totes-it’s like Christmas. And our annual Olympics for lawn games in a week.
This year-a Labor Day trip to Maine for Mommy and Daddy!

Can I just say that I shed tears 3 different times while reading this post. I think about my babies growing up too fast all the time and I only have an 18 month old. I am a teacher so I love getting back into my rythym. I also love the cooler weather, the smell of fall, friday night football games, decorating for halloween, dusting off my scarves, wearing deep yellow colors, and watching my little peanut play in the colorful leaves!

Love the post today; my mama also has those dreams and I am sure I will someday as well. Something magical warms your grownup heart when you hear the longing in your mother’s voice as she relays those precious dreams with an emotional “it was so real!” “you were right there! and you were so little”, and “I could smell that baby smell of you”.

Awesome pictures…Nella half peeking in between your legs…cute!!
I love the seasonal changes that come with the East Coast. The warm humid air that leaves…sending back a crisp cool fall breeze. Welcome hot apple cider, and pumpkin pumkin and more pumkin BAY-BE! Love it!

… I forgot to add what I love about this time of year. Hmmm — I love the prospect of shopping for the perfect new sweater or jacket; the change of pace as school starts that takes us from slovenly to purposeful; π …and the knowledge that CHRISTMAS can’t be too far away!

I’m gonna go all shallow right now because, well, it’s the truth. My favorite thing about the transition is new boots! I start dreaming of them in July and buy in August to have them “ready” for the first official day of autumn, no matter how hot it is in Atlanta!
Tiffany says
I started bawling my eyes out in Costco the other day as I chose various lunch treats for my son. And for once I wasn’t embarrassed to cry. I just let those tears roll down my cheeks as I picked out fruit snacks and goldfish. My first born will be gone all day this year and I am so much sadder than I was when he started kindergarten. I am so much aware of this fleeting time than I was when I had little babies. There is something about school that just gets me.
Living in the upper midwest fall does not disappoint! My favorite shift comes in the form of ingredients. My cooking turns from grilling and cold salads to curried squash soup and honeycrisp apples. Dinner time becomes less hurried. We savor the bites inside with the candles burning instead of outside at the picnic table.
Love your firehouse playdate!

We can never get enough of daddy’s fire trucks! Love the organization that the school year brings to our home. And, there is something refreshing about that first cool front when it blows in. (Except in Texas, we really need some rain!)

I love this: “I am looking forward to the psychological shift for me, the Midwest pre-programming that allows me to believe it’s crisper, cooler and ripe weather for Fall traditions.”
I’m about to move to LA from Minnesota, and I’m trying to prepare myself for the lack of seasons. Something tells me I’ll never be able to get rid of the “Midwest pre-programming”, though, and I’m happy for that. Thanks for putting it to words. You’re awesome.

First of all, Nella smiling on the swing makes my heart really happy… and I need that because I was having a crap day. Second, I don’t have kids yet but I feel like you are always able to put exactly what people are thinking into the most eloquent words. I think this about my friends children, how sad it is that they will only be a newborn for a minute and then you blink your eyes and they are grown up!

Beautiful pictures as always!! I am all about savoring the sliver in time these days. Miss Arya took a LOT of unassisted steps last night and I even got some of them on camera. I LOVE your blog. I can’t remember how I found it, but I’m so glad I did. I have a unique prospective in that I have a ‘bonus baby’…a baby we didn’t expect at age 41, w/ teens aged 16 and 13. With her, I have always had the future staring right at me, knowing this too shall pass, wh/ can be both good and bad. You know sleepless nights vs. rocking sweet babies. I call it ‘motherhood revisited’…I tell my olders, it’s like visiting a beloved vacation spot, some things have changed, but some of the stuff is the same and it is oh so cool that I get to do it again and be aware of how absolutely wonderful it is! They are now 22, 19 and almost 6 and the oldest is prepping to fly the coop. I must say it is comforting to know how proud I am of her, that she wants to fly, even though I will miss her terribly…knowing this, makes the little goodbyes w/ my baby girl easier, bittersweet for sure, but I KNOW that it will be okay.

I was *just thinking* about the summer/fall transition this morning as I slopped coffee all over the sidewalk in my mad dash to the BART (bay area rapid transit) station . . .because here, our summer weather really gets good at the end of august and makes for a lovely, lovely september. I was thinking about how fall is my favorite season, how I love the end of August for that reason . . .
And aren’t trips to the fire station the best? We had Avi’s 2nd birthday party there and the firefighters were super generous and kind (which was especially rad considering we went on superbowl sunday, oops).
Avi starts a new preschool in a few weeks and we have a big trip to Israel planned in November . . .with our annual trip for pumpkins and apples on the horizon next month . . .
Your girls just get more and more beautiful, as does your writing!

So true. Some days I just sit there and try to memorize everything. The way they smell and feel and sound because I know all too soon they will be on their own adventures that I won’t be a part of. And that will be good. That will be wonderful but I will miss them.
Did you make your patchwork quilt? It is really beautiful.

Oh how I wish we had a splash pad close to us! We live in Arizona, so like you, August is hot and humid! Being outside is unbearable unless you’re in a pool! But I do get excited knowing September is right around the corner. Even though it wont get cooler here until early November, I can feel the shift and I can “feel” fall in the air…even if it’s warm air. π But I bought my first Halloween decoration of the season and I’m excited!!

It sounds weird, but you give me hope. I want to move my family to Florida so badly (and since I, too, am a Midwest girl, I know I can handle the balminess – Hello Chicago summer!)
I only worry that I’ll miss the crispness of fall, the delicate snowfall of winter, and the hope that spring brings.
But if a Midwest girl like you can move to Florida and still maintain all these treasures within, I know I can too!

Thank you so much for this post! It brings me back to the 3 year old preschool class trip to the fire station with my little girl. She’s 11 now and still refers to her “fire friends.”

I live in UpState NY and fall is hands down my favorite time of year. The wind shifts, the night are cold, out come the cable knit sweaters and suede boots. This year in particular I’m excited to go to a pumpkin patch and a cider mill and for Halloween. Last year my daughter was only 7 months old and my husband had to work. We never made it to a pumpkin patch or anything like that. I just can’t wait to experience those little fall things with her!

I wish I could ship bags of leaves and Fall-like things down to you! I live in PA and our shift is really apparent but it’s also been feeling like it’s getting shorter and shorter each year….maybe I’m just getting older π My favorite Fall things are crunchy leaves, Hot Toddies (spiced rum and warm apple cider…amazing!), and of course picking apples and painting pumpkins!

Hey Kelle – I tagged you in a photo on facebook today. I couldn’t resist. You’ve inspired me to let go of some of the control that comes with dressing a 2-year-old. While I give her “options” to select from, we often leave the house with her wearing a lime green tutu and she always gets to pick her socks (with no limits from me at all).
Thanks for all you inspire in my mommyhood.

I am now inspired to plan a cool playdate, too! What a great idea (and a great photo opp).
I was talking to a woman about how quickly children grow the other day. Her daughter is older than I am. The woman said, “You know our daughter has been out of the house longer than she has been with us.” It really made me think about how fleeting these days of play truly are.

This time of year has always had a special quality, with school coming back in session and the promise of the many holidays just around the corner. For the last three years, I have been graduated and this time of year went slightly unnoticed until Halloween would be upon me. But finally, I am heading back to school to become a midwife, and so I got to participate once more in the back-to-school shopping tradition and already I am giddy for cooler days, pumpkins and changing leafs. Even though spring is usually connected with new beginnings, fall has always been my new beginning and already I have planned enough projects to last me to next fall!

Fall is my favorite season. I am a second grade teacher so I love the start of a new school year. New kids with new supplies, new backpacks, new clothes and within a few days, new friends. The air starts getting crisper and cooler. We love when school goes back. The excitement of the unknown. It’s also time for our state fair which I love going to. Deep fried snickers, booths for shopping, cattle shows, the largest produce people can grow – it’s a wonderful place. My husband and I met in mid-August 7 years ago. This year, we will be celebrating it even more with our 3 month old baby boy.

Ugh! That dream is gut wrenching. I’m bawling right now. I swear I want to just keep having babies so ill always have a little one around. I can’t bear the thought of an empty nest. I’ll enjoy my sliver of time with my 4,1 1/2, and 3 month old while they are still babies
And what I’m loving about the fall transition is the talk of Halloween costumes and pumpkins. And how they change their minds each day and how they still say “pun-kins.”

I live in New England and I’ve been dreaming of that crispness that comes with fall. I love the tradition of back-to-school shopping and pulling the sweaters out of the closet.
Love love love the photo of Nella driving the fire truck.

So I’m taking this year off after Ellie’s surgery, which is next week. But this week, I set up my classroom. Pencils, a word wall… but not me. So odd.

ahhhh….. fall. It is a great time of year. Marching band, high school football, colorful leaves, pumpkins, bonfires, apple cider…. I am excited thinking about it. School starts Monday morning… sigh… having been home with my girls for the last 6 months, it will be a rough day. Thankfully, I know that with every start there is growth. For all of this, I am thankful.

The fire station photos are gorgeous – all of the reds are really popping and festive.
My favorite part of the fall transition is getting to do things like go to the cider mill in the sunshine, without sweating OR wearing a winter jacket. (I’m in Michigan, so we’re all about extremes here. Fall is a nice in-between.)
Cara says
I love seeing the new Fall veggies starting pop up at the Farmer’s Market.

I feel like your mama at times. Only my children are so spread out it happens in stages. My older two are 22 and almost 20 while my baby began 4th grade today which caused me to have heart palpatations and woke me up this morning. Now I’m watching my granddaughter grow – 14 months already! Speaking of granddaughter, Nora sits on the floor with crayons and paper just like Nella. And now I’m singing Trace Adkins song “You’re Gonna Miss This” in my head. sniff.
Kolena says
What a fun little field trip you took! I’ve been wanting to take my son to a firestation. He’d be in heaven!
My favorite thing about the summer/fall transition is the change of the sun angle. I’m in arizona and I always know fall is around the corner when the sun angle changes. It may not necessarily be cooler, but something about it makes everything look like fall. π

just found your blog…your birth story with Nella was such an amazing read, what a beautiful girl she is, and an amazing mom you are! I am due in Jan. with our 3rd, we decided not to find out if the baby has downs syndrome…your blog def. helped make that decision. Your girls are absolutely beautiful!

We don’t start back to school for a few weeks so we are enjoying every last minute of summer!

Yet another amazing post. This one made me tear up. Oh how I can relate. My babes are the exact same age as yours. And it does go by much too quickly. I am a Midwest girl and while I love summer (because as you know winters are much too long) autumn is my fav. Love the warm sun and crisp air. The crunch of leaves beneath my feat. The amazing colors. Hot cider, pumpkins and fall scented candles.
The Salty Dogs says
September is my favorite. It didn’t mean anything in particular growing up in Memphis, but it’s perfection on Chesapeake Bay. Great sailing, great walks, promise of fall but long way from winter. I wish it lasted 90 days.

Love it! We just went to the firehouse last week. I think I had more fun than the kids! π Lainey’s skirt is o so cute. I always love the funky, full of life outfits you guys create together.

I love when the leaves get crunchy and begin to get that fall smell. Not ready for it just yet, though, as our summer started late!

I love the photo of Nella driving the fire truck!
What do I adore most about summer into fall? What do I NOT adore about summer into fall….. the apple picking, pie-making, scents of cinnamon, fresh pencils & falling leaves, the colors, the sounds, the smells, the tastes… it is all sooooo goooooood :).

Looking forward to the first time I need a hoodie when I’m outside on a walk with the kids. Already I can feel the Montana air shifting and the light changing…fall is coming.

I am a total freak for the “sliver”! And when my whole family gets together the freakishness is multiplied…3 photographers plus 10 kids… I’m o er the embarrassment of it because the results (like you pictures on the fire truck) are SO worth it!!
ps We are having fall weather already here in IA !
Debby Kaye says
Tour of the fire station – love the photos! My little girls are not all mine anymore now that they’re in school and it breaks my heart everyday!
My favorite thing about the transition is when it cools down enough to need to throw on a sweater before we head out the door to school – then enjoy the beautiful, warm Colorado afternoon…

I love how all of Texas decorates for fall with things we don’t see… i.e. changing colors of trees and falling leaves. but our enthusiasm? more than makes up for it!

I had a very similar thought yesterday as I dropped my daughter off at her first day of preschool. This time goes by so fast. Soon I’ll be trying to find time with her between school, friends, activities, etc. I’m happy to soak it up and enjoy every single minute!

Kelle, I’m with your Mom I have raised my two boys and I’m now getting to enjoy my Granddaughter, but there are many times I see her doing things and I think WOW her Dad was just doing that how did 25 years pass so quickly and my heart literally pounds, Its scary and exciting but I some times mourn for those days when 2 little boys clung to my legs.
mamgof5 says
I have to say that the picture of Nella driving the fire truck with that look on her face and the look in her eyes are just PRECIOUS. She is so sweet. She looks like she really was headed to a fire. What I love about Fall is the colors of the leaves , the smell of the crisp air and the trips to the apple orchard with my grandbabies. What more can you ask for.
Rose says
You hit the nail on the head! I think about this very often too, but I worry I’ll miss something if I let myself become melancholy thinking about the time when they want to separate. What a steep learning curve mamahood is – if we don’t live in the present right here right now and savour all of it as you say, well … we’d regret it huh? My two are in bed now, but from the moment they wake tomorrow I’m there, I’ll be present, even if it is 5.30!

What do I love the most about this time of year?!?! It’s bittersweet this year, as I send my oldest off to Kindergarten. I am so excited for her… the new friends, new opportunities, growing up, etc. BUT it’s hard on this mama… my baby’s growing up and taking a huge leap into being more independent.
From a non-kid perspective… what do I love?!?! EASY-PEASY! We live in MN, and moving into bon-fire season with the best neighbors in the world!
Molly says
You know, I am in no rush to get through these years with my little boys. No rush at all. They can wrap around my leg and hold on for dear life as much as they want.
I’m not ready to think about being an empty nester. The thought makes me sad although I know it will hold its own adventures.

i had a panic attack before i went to sleep last night. you know the guilt that sometimes comes at the end of the day. did i spend enough time with them today? did i make them feel loved enough today? was i too busy wrapped up in my own thing etc… so i get that dream. how fast it goes and it scares the crap out of me. i just want to freeze time.

My favorite part of the season transition is that it becomes acceptable to wear cardigans. Also, the pumpkin and spice related recipes come back into season as well as the apple cider and cuddly quilts. I’ve gotten really excited for fall recently, anticipating Halloween, Thanksgiving, and all of the wonderful traditions. Not to mention, tempertures lower than 95!
Meagan Kenney says
I love the Fall decorations in stores too! Fall is my all time favorite season. I actually bought some cool Halloween decorations yesterday and the lady at the register looked at me like I had an arm growing out of my head. Clearly, I was the first person to buy stuff from their newly displayed decor!
And the picture of Nella coloring- precious!
Elizabeth says
My favorite part about the summer to fall transition is that when fall hits it makes for wonderful things like planning my Bean’s second birthday and also the arrival of our second baby girl. I’ve been taking these last few weeks to enjoy my only child while she still is, and taking in every moment, good or bad, with her. I also look forward to the awesome events that happen in the fall such as the Covered Bridge Festival where they have kettle corn, warm cider, and all sorts of little booths for shopping. Fall is my favorite time of year, it finally cooled down a bit here in Indiana and it made me long for sweater weather, but I totally agree, I want to take in and capture ever little sliver I can.

You probably think I’m crazy
… But what I love the most in this transition from summer to fall IS knowing that Christmas is not far away…
I mean the magic time the two-three months before Christmas…
It getting colder here now, leaves are leaving the trees, and it’s so beautiful…
We have so MUCH to look forward to this next months,
and I hope time goes slowly so we can really squeeze out every drop of this amazing time – every single day…
And then it’s Thanksgiving and the following weekend Christmas is in tha’ house!
Yes! That is what I love the most…

My kickoff to Fall occurs every Labor Day weekend. It is our annual family “reunion” and kickoff to Clemson football.
I am lucky enough to live close to my parents, but I cherish each moment that everyone is together. My sister lives far away and my brother is a student at, GUESS WHERE, Clemson. We have dear family friends that own a farm and we get to relax, eat, drink and make new memories and yell GO TIGERS!!. Now that I have children of my own, the new memories are extra special. Love, love, love my family time and I love that the cool crisp air is around the corner.
And………I adore your blog. Happy “Almost” Fall

The smell of fresh cut grass slowly turning into the sound of dried leaves under my feet. I grew up in a hunting family(pheasants mostly) and I find myself smiling and saying “it smells and feels like a morning for hunting” when the crisp mornings start to appear. I don’t know if I’ve ever left a comment before, but I just have to say I LOVE it. Your perspective on everything…gosh I wish I could see more things as you do. Your dear little girls have a very special momma! Lucky girlies! Thanks again for having a little place for me to come to. ( :

I love this whole post because it’s a great reminder to savor this time with our little ones. That being said, our summer was long and arduous at the end. Too much togetherness and forced-to-be-inside time because of our heat.
I put my daugther on the bus on Tuesday for her first day of 1st grade. I can’t even grasp how that’s possible. Through my tears of pride and sadness, though, I am thankful for the return to routine. I love a good solid bedtime routine, waking up routine, days of the week routine. I thrive on it and I’ve passed that little Type A quirk onto my kids. We are all glad to be easing back into the swing of things.
This fall, I’m glad for routine, for packing lunches for the first time, for new snuggle routines with my son, who’s still home with me. I’m glad to be back in it all.
My Secret Rooms says
Hmm, the best thing? I think the surprise that I actually LOVE this shift.
This year I absolutely thought that I’ll never ever want autumn again but I was wrong.
The cool air, the school start, a whole new beginning at work. Purpose, meaning and getting ready to snuggle inside, more together, more cosy.
So, yes, this year: the surprise that I felt ready for it when I thought I wouldn’t π
Looks like a fab outing for all of you! My boy would have loved that. That’s so sweet of the firefighter!!!

Oh, I forgot:

I am really looking forward to getting back into our routines. You look fantastic for chugging coffee and running out the door, I wouldn’t have ever known. I love the beginning of this post, this is so true and sometimes I get caught up in the little pesky things in life that take that perspective away from me. The way you’ve written it is beautiful, brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for the wonderful post.

Oh my. This post made my heart drop–in a good, remind-yourself-life-is-precious, sort of way. Thank you for the reminder to cherish and embrace this time of being pregnant with a WILD 2 yr old on my hands. It’s easy to have that gnarly “just wait for the day to be over” mentality with small kids at home.
Anyway, I LOVE LOVE LOVE fall… I live in the NW and LOVE the changing leaves, the crunching of them underfoot and the crisp weather bundle up feeling.

Thankful I was reading this post in the privacy of my own home, as I bawled and sniffled – at the thought of fleeting time with my girls, not the hot firemen I missed. π My favorite is lighting up my Yankee Candle Farmer’s Market candle for the first time!

I cna really relate to this post. Sometimes I am playing with my daugther and have to hold back tears, it hits me that this moment won’t last forever. Seeing friends on facebook posting 1st day of school pictures makes me a little sad, all these kids growing up so quickly!

I so often think about the day when my littles will fly the nest as well~and admit just the thought makes my heart ache a bit! I’ve looked forward to being a mommy for as long as I can remember, playing it out over and over again in play and in my mind. I am here now with a 20 month old and a 4 month old and there is no where else I would rather be in time! This whole mommy thing has far exceeded my anticipation and is beyond my sweetest dreams. I am head over heals in love with this moment in time; its not perfect, but it is lovely!

Cooler weather, then my babies and I can get outside and they can burn off some energy. My son Tanner has CP and he cannot walk, it’s been so hot that he can’t play outside, the ground is too hot and all of the equipment at the park and toys at home are too.

::sigh:: what don’t i love about this time of year!?!? The LA County Fair with it’s caramel popcorn and giant turkey legs. The lights and squeels from the amusement park. Halloween plans, my son’s second birthday and hubby’s bday 10 days apart in October. The excitement that Thanksgiving and Christmas are almost here! I love the smell of winter! Yes it has a smell hehe! It smells like crisp air with a mix of coals burning in a fireplace. yes coals not wood. I don’t know why but that’s what winter smells like to me π So much to look forward to. And i know what u mean. At least once a day i look at my son and i say thank you for this universe. he won’t be little like this in my arms forever. so thank you.

I’ve been following your blog for several months, Kelle. Its the blog I love to come to when my one and only babe is sleeping soundly in her crib. I needed this post today! She’s 9 months and has suddenly decided to start weaning herself… complete w/ pushing herself from me and trying to get off my lap. We tried for many years for her and I THOUGHT I had savored every second…. sucked the morrow out of every moment… but I don’t think I have considering the tears I shed as I called my husband at work… and text my 2 best girls telling them how I was “mourning” this turn of events.
Keep up the blog. Its a sweet reminder to me of the little things in life.

Fall is my favorite season. The smell of bonfires, and crisp apples from the farmers market top my list when I think of it today. Like Spring, Fall is often too short here in the mid-west. Sometimes we are treated to longer ones though.

For me this time of year always rolls around thinking about high school band. Band camp wasn’t as sexy as it is in the movies, but it was great. And a part of me wants to stop my car every time I see a high school band outside practicing. I want to honk my horn, run out and jump on the hood and yell, “AH-TEN-TION! I appreciate your reminder to enjoy this time while our littles are little. Mine are 3 1/2 and 15 months and I am already looking back at the baby days wistfully. I’m totally jealous of your fire station tour–and trying to think of friends who could join us so maybe we could arrange our own. Hm….
One of my favorite things about the fall is our routine. Our summer has a little routine, but in the fall, we have a more consistent one. Each day is different, and there are always adventures, but we get to see some beloved babysitters, there’s more to do outside on the weekends, and the ‘different’ in each day means more time to treasure the fleeting moments.

I just look at all your photos and think, “that’s going to be lifetime picture.” Like the kind of photo your mom frames and has in the house for your entire life. The kind you reference and talk about in conversation – “remember that photo in the fire truck?” So wonderful!
Denise says
Swoon! Love that last pic of Nella! This post comes on the same day that I was laughing and giggling with my girl (18 mths) at Gymboree. All the kiddos were rolling little balls through a tunnel that was on an incline and just loving it! Playing peekaboo, running around, etc. I told my friend, “Can’t we just stop time!? Right here!? I want to stay in this moment forever!” Sniff, sniff…

I love the switch to fall, the smells of back to school time and the nice coloured leaves and the cool weather, I’m not a summer person at all!

while i L.o.v.e. this time of year (i’m a hot-weather girl), i always look forward to september and the start of school. it’s the teacher in me. i’ve got several catalogs dog-eared with options of the ‘perfect’ lunchbox for my little in her last year in preschool… *tear*.

Your Mama’s dream is one of the reasons I had 8 children. The thought of no littles around makes me so sad : ( I know I will still have a good life, but I will miss my babies. My 8th and last child is almost 2 and I am having a hard time. My oldest is 19 and I am very aware of how quickly that time went. I swear it was only yesterday that he was a little baby in my arms….now he has a job and his own life and I barely get to talk to him for 10 minutes a day even though he still lives at home. I miss him, as I am sure I will miss all of them.
Sarah says
So true, every word! I am reminded of this whenever I got to visit my grandmother in her nursing home. These little old people crowd around my babies with these beautiful smiles and repeatedly tell me “It’s the best time in your life, you know”. Makes me a bit sad for them, but I’m thankful too that I can be here and present in this moment. x

Loving the transition from hot, sticky days to cool, crisp evenings. Savoring these days where you can feel the brink of autumn on the horizon. The nights seem a bit more peaceful, the moon seems a bit bigger and brighter.
Kelly says
I love this time of year because I get to start fresh with new kiddos in my classroom. Though I still miss my sweet kids from last year, I love the fresh start Fall gives me. I can “fix” what didn’t work from last year, and perfect what did. Love it!
Lacy Hope says
If there’s one thing you and I definitely have in common, it is our love of the seasons changing, and particularly the summer/fall change. Fall is my absolute favorite!!! We start planning Halloween costumes in July, and I get so excited about buying my kids new hats and sweaters. I love thinking about the pumpkin patch and the smell of pumpkin pie. The planning of our Christmas tree.
I have even been using the “fall scented” Febreeze around the house already. haha
Kimberly says
What a great idea to set up a “play date” at the fire station. How fun!?!?
embracingbeauty says
I love the fact that change is around the corner in the summer fall transition. Lately I can’t stop thinking about pumpkin bread, decorating with pumpkins and gourds, falling leaves, and fun new things to wear. I want to get some cute clothes in fun, fall colors to wear to work in the next couple of months. I LOVE this time of year!
tezzajfrow says
I am so aware (maybe too aware!) of how each day brings us closer to being finished with this season of littleness. Your blog inspires me to live in the now and cherish each precious moment. I was also very challenged by yesterday’s post on friendship – something I want to do better. Thanks for all the inspiration!
April Seiberlich says
Love the firetruck idea! I nanny two little boys who love all things that make noises– sirens included π I’ll definitely have to work something out.
My favorite part about the summer/fall transition? I love watching everything change colors. I’m from northern Wisconsin so I’m surrounded by woods… It’s amazing how you can go to bed one night surrounded by green and wake up to a whole sunset of colors, leaves of oranges, yellows, and reds. It’s beautiful.
Souza Sisters says
I live in the northeast so I love the first day you can wear jeans and a sweater. Or apple picking with my kids. I love watching the leaves turn colors. And we love Halloween so it’s fun to start thinking about what the girls will be for Halloween π

I love fall…the cooler temperatures, football, pumpkin patches, leaves changing colors. My kids have been planning their Halloween costumes for a month now:)
Erin says
I absolutely love fall – it’s my favorite time of year and I was so excited when our 2nd daughter was born in October! I love when school supplies show up at Target and candy corn at my Walgreens, it means that crisp days, colorful leaves and football are just around the corner! Definitely the best time of year in Chicago, if you ask me!
Also, I love Mountain Aven Baby – I purchased a few items for my oldest daughter and I’m excited now to pull them out in the coming months for my youngest daughter. Going to have to see what they have out now!
Brooke says
I love how everyday is a photo session with your precious girls! They are too cute!

It is fleeting Kelle, that’s for sure. My baby will be 21 in just a few short weeks. I remember and enjoyed (most) everything about my children’s childhood. Savor your sliver of “littledom”. There are new and exciting phases to come, and each one is gone quick-as-a-wink. I cherish the moments I’ve had with my kids and can’t wait ’til I’m a Nana!
Amanda says
As a native Floridian now living in Georgia, I love the (while rather subtle) change of the air from sticky-hot August to warm-and-bearable September. Plus, now that all the kids are back in school, my daughter and I can actually venture out to the botanical gardens, zoo, and aquarium again.
Marisa says
This time of year, I love that even though it is still very much summer (at least according to the weather), every once in awhile we will get one of those nights or mornings that has the slightest hint of cooler weather… it’s amazing how a 65 degree morning (that will later turn to a 95 degree day) can get me dreaming about leaves changing and cozy sweaters!
Jessica says
I’m inspired now to take my little play group to the fire station!! Thank you for the great ideas. The kids do tire of the park. Luckily, I live in the midwest (Utah). It’s still hotter than heck but I’m soo excited for some crisp air and some picking out of pumpkins for the front porch!! Wish I could send some “sweater season” your way!!
Kyle says
There is nothing like the midwest summer-to-fall transition… Being from and living in Indiana, the excitement of football, cool mornings & evenings, pumpkin patches, campfires, changing leaves… the anticipation is so much part of the fun π I LOVE the fall!
Jenne says
The smell of erasers and lead pencils, library books, crisp leaves, and…potential. September will always feel like a wide open field of potential to be the grown-up kid you want to be and can’t wait to show off in fresh new clothes! My two-year-old girl has a while to go before she knows the back-to-school vibe, but I hope she looks forward to it as much as I always have!

Hi there–God, I needed to read this post today, it’s been a rough week for us. Every night this week, I’ve said to myself, “have a little more patience with them, you are gonna miss this someday.” My kids are the same age as yours, and my husband has been working crazy hours lately, so most of the parenting has fallen on me. We live in Naples and it’s like you took the words out of my mouth about the parks, and “other parks.” We’ve hit’em all. I never, ever comment, but I so appreicate your blog and this post just hit home for me. Thank you for your beautiful words and constant relate-able-ness. (long week) Someday, maybe we’ll cross paths. Have a wonderful weekend. π

Oh what an awesome play date!
What I love about this time of year? Well, Alex is just starting pre-school, so it’s not yet about the routine of academia. I love making soup and drinking hard cider. And picking apples with my girl and friends. Planning for Halloween (decisions, decisions), and starting house projects that I want to get done before the holidays. Oh, and I love making mountains of leaves and letting kids go bonkers. Fall is the prelude for Christmas. Really, I could go on and on so I’ll just shut up. π

I love that the weather is starting to be breathable. I love the rush of everyone around me going crazy to get school supplies, while I watch and laugh, because I don’t need any new backpacks or shoes. This fall is completely different. After taking time off from academia to have my son, I will return and he will start school.
Monday morning I’ll drop him off for preschool on his first day away from family as I head to university for teacher training. It’ll be so…different.
I also realized that I have absolutely no pants in the size he’s in now. I hope his legs get longer before the temperature cools.
Pam says
That skirt that Lainey is wearing reminds me of the 50s. I like most about Fall is that hot summer is a long time off. I got hot natured as we moved from Mich. to AL. in 1989 and I am still hot natured.

oh, your post made me cry. I love Ohio’s cool foggy autumn mornings. The way daylight seems more precious when the days get shorter. The golden autumn glow of a setting sun. Wearing jeans and a sweater in the crisp air; no jacket needed yet! Chili on a football Saturday. Corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and mums on display. Apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg make their seasonal comeback in baked treats. Soft rolling wooded hills and country woods slowing turning yellow, orange, and red. Autumn is my FAVORITE season here!

I’m like you, I relish the changing of the seasons, that mental shift from one part of the year to the other. That part of me wars with the part that wants to slow time down, keeping my little ones small for as long as possible. But I have been pinning an awful lot of fall decor ideas lately, including glitter pumpkins and stenciled bats to cover our front door. I can’t wait to bake with cinnamon and pop a Pumpkin Roll brick in my Scentsy burner!

I try to soak up my girl every day, and though I sometimes go to bed thinking “today, I missed it,” most days I get it right. I’m living in Michigan, and my boys haven’t started school yet. We still have 2 weeks of precious summer to go! I love the transition itself this time of year. Summer is so carefree, where we break the rules with mealtimes and bedtimes and it’s nice to get back to our monotonous routine. They, by Christmas I’ll be ready for another break. It all works!

My mom always says that she was blessed to raised us, that we never “belonged” to her. We were lent to her for the best moments of her life. Your daughters are blessed to have a mama who feels the same way and cherishes those moments.
I’m a teacher, so I love the summer/fall transition. Fresh school supplies, crisp notebooks, clean classroom, excited middle school learners…it’s the best. π

I love how subtle the shift in my area is from summer to autumn. One day youre sticky and hot and the next its cool and crisp. xoxox

Cooler and darker mornings that beg for an extra pair of socks, the way the air changes ever so slightly to crisper, woodsier scent, the color shift of the leaves from bright green to burnt reds, golds and orange, the cravings I suddenly get for butternut squash soup and apple cinnamon pie, the darker cozy evenings, and the Fall fashions in the stores….best time of year!
mjscreative says
I absolutely can’t wait for September here. Sweatshirts and flip flops, apple cider and decorating the house in fall theme. It’s definitely my favorite time of the year. π

I love the fire station tour! My dad was a fire fighter and it reminded me of how he used to drive up to our house in the engine after a fire and blow the horn and all the neighborhood kids would come running outside, or how he’d always let me climb on the trucks or lift me up to slide down the pole from as high as he could reach (yeah, his station had a pole!!). Anyway, thanks for a fun post. I need to take my kids to a fire station!
I love when the weather starts to get cooler and the air just feels so fresh and new for fall. I love football and chilly evenings sitting out by a fire and taking my kids to the pumpkin patch. Midwest fall is the best.
Rhonda says
Summer/Fall transition? Watching the leaves start to change color. Here in southern New York, surrounded by trees, you can see them start to change before your eyes. Gearing up for school, trying to beat the heat while trying not to freak out about sending a 4 year old on a bus with the big kids.
Whitney says
I had tears in my eyes as I thought of how fast the first two years of my son’s life have flown. Thanks for the reminder to cherish every day!
My favorite parts of fall…college football, cool air, colored leaves, and very important BIRTHDAYS!

I love looking at school supplies all lined up in the store – and I love winery visits on a crisp fall weekend, wearing a cardigan, snacking on cheese and crackers and sipping wine with dear friends.
We have a quilt that looks a great deal like the one in your photo – it was made by my husband’s grandma, and we used it so much it is falling apart, but we will never get rid of it.

Beautiful post! I have a “Rebecca” friend too who always seems to pull off planning the coolest play dates … and I always envy her talent at that! In the Summer/Fall transition… I LOVE when you can literally feel FALL in the air! The air is so different… but it’s so subtle that it doesn’t leave you cold and wishing for summer either. It’s just that crisp shift that leaves me wanting more FALL! My favorite transition this year will be meeting my daughter in a few weeks! She’s due September 8th and I’m so excited to have the fresh skin of a newborn around during my absolute-most-favorite-time-of-year… Autumn. Mmmm. Just thinking about it… now I’m craving a Starbucks Spiced Apple Cider and a Yankee Autumn Wreath candle. Aahh!

I lost a little bit of my sliver this week as my Mae started kindergarten. Enjoying time with just my 3 year old baby, but aching a bit that she’s no longer under my constant watch, for just me to enjoy. She’s quite a girl.
Anyway, looking forward to dressing my new kindergartner in cozy fall clothes and cute boots. And looking forward to slightly chilly walks in the leaves. Love fall.

I am a grandma now but I can tell you I STILL miss my kids being little. Sadly that time of my life didn’t last long enough.

I really miss those playgroup dates. My 2 are 16 and 14, so we are entering the last 12 months of school for Megan, she has started driving lessons and looking at universities (college). I love watching you enjoy your family, you have learnt a life lesson that is so important – enjoy the small things and celebrate everything.

I’m always a little sad this time of year. Even though Its been 10 years since I got to do the ‘back to school shopping’, I miss it. I loved getting the kids ready for that first big day! You see I have the sweetest grandkids who are getting ready for school and I get to see all their fun stuff for their big day! Sitting here smiling just thinking of them!

August is still a bit early for it, but my favorite transition to fall in Indiana is watching for the first leaves to change color. Talk about a little sliver of time…but what a show! Natures bountiful panorama! I SO love the photos of the kids at the fire station…love the shy ‘wow’ photos of the little girls and the BIG “WOW” photos of the little boys! And love those photos of little Nella getting more steady in an upright position! Kelle, I know it’s early for this, but you MUST look forward to being a grandmother. If it’s possible, this role is even more fun (certainly more light-hearted) for me than being a mama was…and believe me, I know that mama is the role I was born for! But even being a Grammy is but a sliver…today my first grandson starts kindergarten, leaving his little 3 year old brother at home alone. Sigh.

Your post this morning hit the spot and was exactly what my husband and I were talking about at dinner last night. I have been savoring the silly goofy moments between my daughters because I know one day it will fights of clothes instead of laughing pressing noses while giggling. Our oldest is in 1st grade this year and we have already seen a shift in things, it makes me excited and scared all at the same time!

Oh how I have been feeling this lately too! My first born started 1st grade this week, and something in me hurt a little as I watched her climb those big steps up the bus for the first time. I was super proud of her, but something in me also said “I only have 11 more years that she’ll be mine” and then she’s off to go find her own adventures and make her place in this world. While she’s gone during the day we make messes and read books and watch PBS kids and catch dinosaurs. We’re making memories, and I will hold on to them for the rest of my life, and I hope they will too! Thanks for another wonderful post!

OMG! I love the fabric patterns from Mountain Aven Baby! Lainey is so fashionable (as always) in all of their fun clothes.
Danny and Jenna's Wedding says
“Consequently, Lainey’s been mimicking the sounds of a fire truck around the house. It’s really great. ” I laughed out loud when I read that. Thanks for another inspiring post! I think we’ll try and plan a visit to the fire station with my friends and our little ones!

Your posts and photos are so inspiring – my youngest child is 5, and I was just thinking the other day, even tho’ they could be hectic and chaotic and exhausting, how much I miss the toddler and preschool days when we had nothing to do but play. I used to think they would never end, but time does move on. Your post is reminding me to savor every moment of this stage of life, too – it’s hard to imagine not having my 4 kids surrounding me, but someday they will move on and I’ll be pining for these wonderful moments I have in front of me right now. Thanks for the reminder.

Nothing like misty eyes at work! The picture of Nella in the swing melted me and then your caption “Until then, I’ll savor the sliver while they are little and mine.”-Well said sista! They grow so fast and some days I feel myself rushing it, but really deep down I wish it would slow down!

I love the cooler nights!

I love everything about fall; hot apple cider, more coffee, cardigans, the cool weather….my one year old daughter will love it too; it will mean more shoes and jackets, which she loves!
Ellie says
Oh how I dread those days my baby girl won’t need me anymore… savor it while we can!
Sarah says
That picture of Nella driving the fire truck is the cutest! And I love the last picture as well, so beautiful.

The summer to fall transition here in Maryland is great. We have the cool breezes and abundance of fall treats. Also it will be my daughters first fall, Halloween and I can’t wait for her to experience it π
Small Town Girl says
I love that you live up every moment you can with your girls and take fun trips to places like the fire station!
My favorite transition into fall is the weather. It gets cooler here, but not winter cold yet, and our trees become this magical place full of vibrant colors.
CMB says
I love most the opening of the windows for as long as mother nature will allow! Here in Indiana we only had a small window this Spring that the heat and air weren’t on and we could air out our house! I am hoping for more of a window (literally) this fall!

I love the thought of a fresh start. Even though it isn’t technically the “new year”, it is the beginning of a new school year. For me, this year is even more different than any of the other past years. I am transferring to a different school for my major (Nursing). This year, being at a different school, is a fresh start. I get to meet new people and explore new places.

Kelle,
Thank you so much for sharing your life with all of us. What a wonderful mom you are.
Fall – my favorite season. The colors, the smells, the cool nights and warm days. I can’t wait.

I love the fairs in new england that come with the fall, and the prospect of apple picking with my family!!

Love this. The sliver really is fleeting. I try and keep this in mind on the most taxing of days!! Sometimes it’s hard, but one day they’ll all be off to college, or starting their lives elsewhere, and we’ll be pining for these days!!

I love creative play dates! We toured the fire station (too) this summer… my son LOVED it!
Also your comments about fall made me think that I am looking forward to fall, but cherishing what we have right now… because I am not exactly thrilled about what is beyond fall… it gets cold here in Montana in the winter… just saying!
Wendy says
I treasure this time of year because I live in MN and winters are so looooooong and dreadful. Since this “transition” season between Summer and Fall can be extremely short-lived (weeks at best, unless we get an Indian Summer which is like getting a bonus!) it makes me want to hang on to every second of it, and try to enjoy every second of the cooler weather and low humidity!
Adventures in our army life says
What a fun, creative playdate! Love the pictures! I love the transition from tank tops and flip flops to short sleeves and jeans, pumpkin patches and hayrides! Love the change in season!
Sara says
My favorite part of this summer/fall transistion is simply the cooler weather. I live in Las Vegas afterall and we can only take so many days of 110+ degree weather! So we welcome the cool weather of fall/winter with open arms. I love the colors associated with fall/winter and desire them so much right now. =)
Love the fire station tour! I’m currently expecting our first child and I know I just HAVE to do this one day with baby!!

Although I can imagine your excitement for this transition into fall (I used to live in GA), I know how August can be for the south. I do not look forward to this time of year. I LOVE SUMMER! Especially Minnesota summers (even though we have skeeters)!! I love the golden skin tones, sprinklers & kiddie pools, lakes & outdoor pools, boat rides & fishing, the list goes on…. About the only thing I look forward to is open windows, cool breezes blowing through, and cuddling up in sweatsuits! I guess I am starting to miss my stash of sweatshirts but it is hard to trade them for shorts & tanks!

Favorite fall tradition (now that I live in Minnesota) is definitely our annual trip to the Apple Orchard. So fun!

I couldn’t have said it better myself! I have recently been contemplating the beautiful (and not so beautiful, but still special) fleeting moments I have with my children. I love your beautiful pictures of your sweet girls! My favorite is the one of Nella in the swing. Sheer joy!

I love Nella driving the fire truck! So cute! My favorite about fall here in Central IL is the cooler nights, knowing that corn harvest is right around the corner, and a trip to the apple orchard.
Emily says
You said how I feel so perfectly in this post! I wasn’t quite sure why I feel the need to take 10,000 pictures every outing…but that’s exactly it. This time with my kids is so wonderful but so fleeting.
This time of year makes me love where I live more than ever. Cooler weather, football games, changing leaves, apple orchards, jeans and hoodies…I love it all. (I think I wrote this exact same comment this time last year.)

And their backpacks were hung by the backdoor with care! I love fall and everything that it brings!

Hi Kelle:
I wanted to mention that the initial thoughts and words from this post resonated and still do. Haven’t stopped thinking about your mom’s dream, too. The bonds of motherhood that are felt worldwide….
Love this:
But I also know that what I have right now–two little people who comfortably remain in the security of this sliver of time where they are ours–is fleeting. During adventures like yesterday where one is slung to my hip and one is holding my hand, guiding me toward where she wants to go, and little friends and friends’ mamas are circled around us, I think to myself, “I’m going to miss this.” ~Kelle Hampton~
I think about these things all the time, too.
A while ago you also wrote:
It will come soon enough. And when the time does come, it will be a lot easier letting them go when I know I made the very best of the time they were mine to keep.
~ Kelle Hampton ~
………..mine to keep……….for a sliver of time. So very true and heart-wrenching
May I suggest you read (if you have not already done so) Mitten Strings for God by Katrina Kenison and her other book The Gift of An Ordinary Day. In the meantime, check out her little youtube video. It will have you reflecting for a while.

I love the changing of the weather, when you can start to put away the shorts and tanks and start reaching for jackets and jeans and the air feels crisp and leaves are changing-love it all!

Oh my goodness!! The picture of Nella in the swing is adorable! What a sweet, contagious smile she has! And what I love about the summer/fall transition is pulling back out my favorite jeans that I couldn’t wait to put up when summer hit. There’s something about bringing them back out that screams fall to me!

beautiful post. i sometimes need the reminder to savor this short, special time. With my oldest at four (already!?!) i begin to see the end… And fall, I cannot wait for you to come. The changing weather and sense of new possibilities that comes with the crisp breeze… Yes, i am ready!

I love their bibs! Super cute fabric.

The shadows are longer and the evening air is cooler. I anticipate a bountiful harvest and the aroma of home bottled, stewed tomatoes and chili sauce. I love the sound of helmets crashing on the football field as I watch my super star nephew run the ball into the end zone. We get back into a routine and everything quiets down in preparation for winter’s blanket. I love Fall.
P.S. I love your goodness…

Your blog reminds me everyday to treasure the time i have with my children. To help them explore their surroundings and make sure they have a fantastic “storybook” of childhood memories. So thank you for helping me enjoy my children just that little bit more.

Such a fun trip idea!! I arranged a trip to the Caterpillar sales yard to tour the BIG trucks and tractors once, the kids loved climbing and playing on the trucks! I cant wait to take more non-park trips like these!

Being here in Michigan my fav. thing about the transition is the weather shift….I love autumn weather!

We are lucky dogs who spend the entire summer at my mother in law’s amazing beach house…right on the sandy shores of Long Island’s north fork. So my favorite thing about this time of year is going back to my own home in CT and settling into my own routine with my hubby and kids all my own. As much as I love and appreciate the awesomeness of a family beach house complete with yummy cousins and extended family, I do love getting my to my own cozy home! π

There are times when I think of my girls growing older and I literally lose my breath from the pain of it. They are only 2 but I already long for the “baby” days. I’m trying to enjoy the moment but there are times when I tear up with how big they are getting.

The butterfly excitement and anticipation for cool, crisp Connecticut mornings, back-to-school outfits (my daughter will get to wear my old preschool outfit which makes me smile), decorating for the holidays, hot apple cider, tall boots for treks into NYC and parties–we always love to welcome each season with a party. π

so your mom’s story puts a serious lump in my throat…making it hard to even imagine it when we our girls are older and more independent. love the fire station field trip….nella behind the wheel is the cutest. love lainey’s happy face when she’s playing with her friends. xo

It’s so funny- usually I check your blog each night after bedtime. Thursday night I fell right to sleep, and last night I was baking apple crisp…I know I was supposed to read this tonight, instead. After I tucked in my little girl after a day at Grandma’s house (mommy and daddy had to go get work done on the car….yay?…), I thanked my lucky stars that I’m her mommy and she’s my baby. I was just in tear over how beautiful and amazing she is, and then….I read this post. How appropriate. π Thank you!

i love candles that smell like pumpkin and other autumn smells. i know i could burn them year round, but it just “feels” right as the weather gets cooler, the leaves begin to change and i don’t feel so darn hot anymore!

The first part of this post made me cry. I guess I just live day to day and forget this moment with my kids is fleeting. Breaks.My.Heart. I wish I was brave like you and enjoyed every moment, but I find myself maybe purposely forgetting this time in my life isn’t forever. I need to remember that and try and get the most out of this short time that they are mine, and I don’t have to share them with the rest of the world. *sniff sniff* Thank you for reminding me to live life to the fullest.
I love the feeling of the air getting crisper and cooler but that usually means snow is right around the corner and it’s hard to enjoy it knowing snow is on it’s way.
Well I guess you can’t tell by this long winded comment that I hate change, can ya? π

Thank you so much for this! We have been in the throes of potty training this week, which has made my head feel like exploding on more than one occasion. You’ve reminded me that one day, I’ll wish my baby was little enough to need to be trained! These days pass so quickly and as cliche as it sounds, it is so true. Tomorrow, I am going to savor each of the thousands of running trips to the potty without any results as something special. Thank you.
