Summer Watermelon Bracelets

April 30, 2015 By Kelle

A teeny tiny craft post today. The countdown for summer began at school with only an alphabet of letters-per-day left, so my brain joins the fun. I made watermelon bracelets last week–super easy and inexpensive, and a fun gift to give to friends or mothers or teachers–or be greedy and keep them for yourself. I like the sound they make when they clank together–kind of like wood chimes which comes in handy for signaling your kids for another lemonade when you’re lounging poolside in a month. Oh I’m sorry, you’ll be the one fetching lemonades for them.

All you need is natural wood bracelets (links below) plus 5 colors of acrylic paint: hot pink, black, white, lime and green.

(2-pack large wood bracelets and a 3-pack skinny wood bracelets)

Paint ’em up. Then slip them on and clank away.

The weekend’s almost here. Happy day!

No, I just wear a love band above it a lot now because it’s simple, I love it and it doesn’t get dirty!

I’m a mom of five…adore your blog and have for years!! peeking around your instagram is making me feel bad…I’m not good at pictures..taking, editing, or hanging….ACK! Having a guilty mom moment!!!!!!! We have fun fun times and travel like crazy….there are pictures of most of it-on my computer and camera. It overwhelms me (I don’t enjoy crafty things at all 😉 and at night when there is time for it, it’s the last thing I want to do….EEKS!!! I need a quick pick me up. I’m loving looking at your pics but feeling anxious I haven’t done it for my 5 (under 10)! It’s so good for there little brains and hearts..

Thanks for your comment, Anne. No need to feel guilty! I craft and do lots with pictures because I love it–but it’s not for everyone. There are lots of things that other moms do that DO overwhelm me, so I stick to what I love and works for me, and I love the crafting and picture-taking. If you do want more pictures of your kids, maybe you could start a once a week tradition? Like a particular thing you make a point to photograph every week–maybe something like Saturday morning pajamas with everyone snuggled in your bed? You could make it fun and have your kids get in on coming up with ideas. And it’s never too late to start something new!

Meant to add this! It might help. Just some fun easy ways to take creative pics with an iPhone. I wrote this last year for eHow and use these techniques a lot for fun pictures:

Rock it, sistah…always love your blog and pics! It did occur to me as I was looking through your IG to take a daily pic, weekly seems more my speed 🙂 Now if one of these days I upload and download and printload, load, load I’ll be all good. Either way, it’s always fun to see your pics! Thanks for the link…already took a quick look!

Oh my heavens… If it was even possible to love your blog any more it just happened. I’ve been loving the content and following with regularity (reading every single morning) since 2009, but you see, this layout. This layout. This is what I want my blog to look like when it grows up.

Thank you. Thank you for being a complete inspiration in this space and in life.

Love the new website layout. These bracelets are gorgeous – such a cool idea. I’m in New Zealand and we are coming into winter now, so as I sit here at work sipping away at my freezing cold smoothie for lunch trying to will summer to come back – these bracelets may just do the trick! Love your blog and have followed you for a few years now. Always come here if I need a little pick me up!

I have enjoyed following your blog since Nella’s birth story. Your words have inspired me and have spoken the love, the fear and the laughter of my Mama heart on so many occasions. Your talented photography has also inspired my own personal love of being behind the lens and I thank you for that!! Beautiful changes to your blog Kelle!! So very colourful and full of LIFE…I feel like I’m sitting on a bright yellow pillow 🙂 Congrats on the amazing growth of your blog space!!

How do you balance posting pics of your kids vis a vis their privacy? I’m thinking of starting a blog, but not sure how my kids would take it. They’re only 4, 2 and six month twins

Families have different comfort levels, and you have to do what makes you comfortable as a mom. If you have reservations, you can always have a private blog and only invite friends and family to see.

Loving your new blog layout, Kelle! And the “coffee hour” feel you’ve created here. Well done, friend. And these bracelets are adorable. Thinking of having a school age girls craft camp this summer for my girls and their friends. This would be a fun one for them to make! Happy Monday, beautiful.

I love, love, love these bracelets! I know if I attempted it myself it would fail though – is there anywhere you can buy ready made ones online? If not you should totally make some to sell yourself – I would certainly buy them!
