Today, we celebrated summer.
Balls to the walls, Baby.
Nella woke up Thursday night probably eight times. Low grade fever, teething, who knows. If you added it all up, I’m sure I spent a good two hours slumped over the railing of her crib with my eyes closed, patting her back and praying, for the love of God, that she wouldn’t cry when I made the decision to finally withdraw my hand (gradually, of course, because any mom knows a full-on patting session must first decrease to a slower pat, then slower, then slow plus light, then lighter–until your fingertips are barely grazing their back. Then and only then can you quietly pull away with the chance they won’t realize you’ve dismissed yourself).
She woke up for good when the sun was barely spilling its light into our bedroom window, and for a moment–in my squint-eyed, slow-to-rise wake-up mode–I considered canceling our plans for a day trip. A cup of coffee later though, I was psyched. We were off.
From Naples, if you wind north on Bonita Beach Boulevard, you’ll first pass a stretch of stately beach houses on your left–many of them empty and for sale–their faces bedecked with double staircases, ornate balconies and terra cotta colored stucco. Just past the bridge at Lover’s Key, the scene shifts a bit as opulence fades into vast and vacant lots, natural beach front and finally, the retro vacation vibe of Fort Myers Beach.
Yellow retro suit, Popina Swimwear.
Fort Myers Beach is a nice daycation destination, different from Naples and reminiscent of my childhood memories of Florida, like visiting my grandma and grandpa’s Airstream at the K.O.A. or shuffling through tourist shops in Tarpon Springs, in search of the perfect fisherman’s hat.
Old resorts, their pink and mint green paint faded from the sun, pepper the beach while shell shops and fan-cooled beach bars fill in the gaps. There’s the Dolphin Inn, the Shipwreck Motel, Lani Kai and The Seawatch–their rooms and restaurants filled with the same vacationers who come back every year.
We (my friend Andrea and I) found a quaint cafe, The Heavenly Bisquit, hidden between a t-shirt shop and a parking lot, and we inhaled the world’s best BLT–thick strips of crisp bacon sandwiched between fresh tomotoes and buttery grilled bread–on the front porch because that’s how it’s done in the summertime.
And for the rest of the day we watched from our blanket, outstretched in the cold shaded sand under the pier, as our girls braved waves and traded mermaid tails.
You like summer?
Say hello to the beach side ice cream truck, also known as a stocked freezer fastened to a bike and outfitted with a real palm tree.
How ’bout them summer apples?
Outside the beach, the sun scorched this touristy town so much my feet actually burned through the wood soles of my sandals as I stood on the parking lot pavement just long enough to unbuckle Nella from her carseat. But the camp we set up under the pier was the perfect escape–cool and damp and close enough to the water’s edge, Nella could crab crawl a few feet to rinse off.
Going to the beach is not in any way an easy task with two toddlers and a baby. In fact, just visualizing our entrance is a bit embarrassing–dragging towels and bags and sand toys, loaded up in a beach cart that might as well be a grocery cart; dropping random shovels and pails; steering wandering kids; hoisting camera cases and diaper bags, dodging “Mam, could you use some help?” offers with forced smiles and fake “No, we got this” responses. It’s a lot of work. But then there’s this.
…which is undeniably worth it.

Looking forward to some weekending.
And I’m thrilled to introduce a fabulous summer sponsor, eSWAK.com, the original camp care package company.
Know any kids off to summer camp this year? Here is an awesome, easy way to let them know you are thinking of them and give them the opportunity to have a little more fun. You visit the site, choose a care package (or let them create one for you), customize it, and eSWAK takes care of the rest. And if you don’t know any kids off to summer camp, how about creating camp in your own home?
Our Teen Spa Party pack arrived the other day and, knowing what was inside, Lainey was making big plans for our day before the scissors even kissed the cardboard to open the box.
Our pack was stocked with everything we needed for the spa experience–nail polish, remover, files, pedicure sandals, brushes, nail stickers, etc.
We upped the ante with a homemade oatmeal mask, a British accent and the offer for some apple “kid wine.”
Sister eats the cucumbers.
And ten minutes after rinsing off the last remains of crusted oatmeal, she wanted to do it all over again, so we packed everything up and headed over to Nana Kate’s to repeat the fun with her grandkids.
We were completely impressed with eSWAK’s package, we have plenty of goodies left over for more fun, and we are so excited they’re on board as a new sponsor. Make someone at camp happy or bring camp to your own home this summer (erect a living room tent!)
There are plenty more packages for all ages, both boys and girls, to check out.
One lucky reader will win a $200 gift certificate from Sealed With a Kiss, the Original Care Package Company. How to register: Email name, phone number and email address to bpetty@eswak.com. Value is limited to $200 retail value including shipping. Everyone who registers will receive a coupon code for 10% off shipping. Must register by 11:59PM (PST) July 5th. Winner will be notified on July 10 via email.
Have a wonderful weekend! Hoping to make up for last night…keeping my fingers crossed.

woot, I’m camping and still got to be first to comment 🙂 going back to read!
I’m gonna have to venture over to Ft. Myers beach just to see that ice cream cart!! That’s flippin phenomenal!! The picture of Lainey with the oatmeal scrub and cucumbers is hysterical =)
It was a gorgeous day to be at the beach! The waves were a little crazy for the gulf today!!
I <3 summer in Florida!
~Beth
What a fun day you had! I’m glad you forged ahead despite your lack of sleep!
too funny that we’re at a KOA and I’m reading this post by our campfire and then I read your memory of visiting your grandparents at a KOA. ANd I can totally relate to the patting my babies’ backs slowly and then slower, etc. Hope Nella is feeling better soon!
um… you might be THE coolest mom ever! Wow. The day sounds like a blast, the painted flower nails turned out super cute and your adventurous spirit, once again,is quite infectious 🙂
Happy weekend, Kelle!
my boyfriend and i ventured to ft. meyers beach last spring for a short get away. we too came across heavenly biscuit and LOVED it! seeing your pictures makes my mouth water. what a perfect way to welcome summer!!
Nellas hair has gotten so long. I’m loving the pigtails.
The Beach looks like so much fun! (: …I just blogged about Mungo Jerry two days ago (: …Lainey’s hair is so beautiful! It’s so blond and wispy!…I live out west and am currently packing for our annual summer in Georgia (with family). We leave tomorrow!!! I’m so excited! I love your blog! It is always inspirational! Thank you, Kelle, for sharing your beautiful blessed life with us! xoxo
Oh Nella. Sweet, sweet girl. Please let your Mama sleep tonight….
Funny story I thought about when I was looking at the oatmeal mask pictures…
When I was little, my cousin and I planned a spa day, even made up a name to call it. Our first pampering was a mask. We went and got a mask from my aunt’s bathroom, and put it on. We HAD to have cucumbers for our eyes, so my cousin went downstairs and grabbed some. Little did I know, they were PICKLED cucumber slices!! We both had round circle rashes around our eyes for the rest of the day. Spa time was done. haha Quite comical!
What a great camp box that would be!!!Makes me want to go to camp, maybe camp will come to our home, to hot outside!!!a TENT inside is perfect. I so need a beach trip, hubby lived in Fort Meyers back in the 70’s when condos were the big craze!!!!
happy summer,
mimi–aka –jamie
Your celebration of summer kick’s ass! Sorry to your dad for swearing, but it was needed there 🙂 Way to rock out all summer has to offer & make it look eloquent in photos you 3 beautiful ladies! Here’s to hoping we get some needed summer weather in Michigan!
Lovely beach pictures! And your home spa adventures are fabulous. I recently did this with my six year old when she was home sick from school. The little flower stickers on painted nails would have simply made her swoon!!
Happy weekend!
I love your blog so much. I’ve been reading it for what feels like forever and still get so excited every time there’s a new post. I kept staring at that first pic of Nella with her Babylegs and shiny red shoes. Amazing. And YOU look amazing, by the way. You’re inspiring me to get back in shape! Among other things… 🙂
Joanna
Wonderful heart warming photos!
Looks like a fab day with those sweet girls 🙂
How cute is adorable Nella eating the cucumber??!!!!
Hope you get to sleep, sounds like a tough night.
Have a happy weekend!
Here we’re in the middle of celebrating Midsummer, which is The Holiday in my country. We’re doing it with flare, I can tell you 😉
I think you could sell Mormon girl-virgins to drag queens. I want to live in your beach day. I want to eat that BLT (and, let’s face it, that baby bottom), I want to wear that yellow bathing suit (however, mine should have Spanx sewn in to the lining) and I want to see the world through the lens of your spirit (oh, that was good. Maybe too good. But it’s true).
xo
I absolutely adore these beach pictures! Keep doing what you’re doing because you are such a talented lady. You, as well as your precious girls, are just a delight.
CLeigh
I have fallen asleep three times while reading and responding to your lovely summer post. My little five month old man is reallyloving the party scene at 2 am lately…yawn. Good for you to still stout there and have fun. Coffee is a great motivator.
Thanks for another great post. I look forward to reading such a positive and loveing approach to family and kids. It really delights me.
My favorite picture is of the two girls in the water with the big long pier overhead. So
Ok, I really need to fall asleep in bed now
Your pictures always make me wish I lived closer to the beach. Your girls are so lucky you take advantage of your location.
And what a cool idea those camp boxes are!
Hope you get some good sleep tonight! 🙂
I’m off to bed myself… Hoping the Lil Kicker in my belleh will let me get some sleep too!
What was it with Thursday night of this week?!! You, me & some of my friends with babies all had a rough night … I also went through the slow back pat release!! Let’s hope it was a one night wonder. Your daycation looks such fun, I miss the beach so much but your photos make me feel a little bit closer. Happy weekend.
Ahhh Kelle, I don’t usually comment though I’ve been reading since Nella was born but I’m delurking to say thanks for introducing me to Elliott Smith and to Beirut. Awesome music 🙂
Thanks again!
Wow, what a fun day you had! the sisters are so sweet and both pretty!
Lainey all oatmeal face & cucumbers, and Nella eating the leftovers…made me smile big tonight!! HAPPY DAYS!!! That beach looks heavenly & I am craving your summer as we’re now in the middle of winter here! I am coming to the USA for the 1st time for a holiday in August & CAN.NOT.FRIGGEN.WAIT!!!! Pity I won’t make it to Florida….looks AMAZING! Happy weekend Kelle!
xo
Three things –
1. Nothing makes me smile like naked baby butt – one of the best things in the world!
2. I don’t eat meat & that BLT still looks freaking awesome ….
3. Those toenails are absolutely lovely!
Hope you got a good night’s sleep …. P.
I love the post, as always. I can totally relate to how it feels to drag half your life out every time you go to the beach:) but yes, it is sooo worth it! You look so amazing in your yellow bathingsuit.. now I want my body back too!!
and that back patting was taking place at my house too last night, we got home veeery late from a traditional Swedish midsummer celebration, and Nicholas who I had to wake up for the drive home was wide awake when I put him back to bed. so the patting had to be taken up, and once u start u have to go all the way..
well, thank the gods he slept in today!!
Love your blog!
xx
We spring break at FMB, but no Lanier Kai for us! We always go into Naples….more our speed! We do shell over at Sanibel lighthouse….brunching at the Island Cow. Way cute eatery!
I am from PA, and we are heading to visit family in Fort Myers Beach TODAY! I am so excited!
1. How is Patti always first to comment?
2. I miss leading Young Life right now just because of camp care packages. And if I win, I am SO sending packages to all my friends who are leaders to play with.
3. LOVE the retro photos! Are some of those iphone or all they all from your camera?
4. Helps me to know that you are “those people” when going to the beach with kids. Can we see some behind the scenes of how much stuff you REALLY take? Because your photos are so pretty, and I can only imagine that there’s a LOT of junk not shown with that description!
5. Happy weekend to you and those beautiful little girls! They are looking so grown up!!
You make me love the beach even more. I feel like I am at the there with you thanks to all your beautiful beaches. Does Nella ever try to run off. Sophia runs off making sure to say hi to EVERYONE there. When she hears a “awww she’s too cute” she knows her job is done and moves on.
Love Fort Meyers Beach! Our Abuela lives in Fort Meyers, would love to meet up with you and the girls next time we are there. I was laughing at the crib back tapping routine, been living there A LOT latley. You are not alone in the night ;O) Teething plus a not so good sleeper to start with is just a bad combination! My moto, I can sleep when I am old.
Gotta say…the pic of your dumpling with the cucumbers on her eyes made me SMILE!! Love it!!
That camp care package rocks! And where do you get the girls leg warmers? You need babylegs as a sponsor!!
We honeymooned on FMB! Then went back 5 years later, for good measure. SO retro! And nostalgic.
Siley is on my lap right now and kept saying things like “No, baby!” “Hi, baby!” “It’s ok, baby!” as I scrolled through your post. It’s a little early to know for sure, but I think he’s sweet on Nella.
Now, please have yourself a slammin Saturday. I know I’m gonna.
We lived in Hawaii until my oldest was 3. I know all too well the feeling of trying to lug EVERYTHING from the car to the beach. Have you seen the show Yes Dear? The opening of that always reminds me of that time.
I was also nodding and agreeing with every bit of the back patting and trying to get away praying for sleep. Timmy’s floor squeeks and Ive figured out just how to tip toe out of his room without hitting those spots.
I love every single shot…these are great ones!!!
Which camera and lens you usually use? hope to receive the info;)!
I LOVE the sleep thing, I can’t count how many times I have done that. Except I side-carred a twin mattress (pressed up into the corner of the wall) next to my side of the bed. The little sister at our house starts out the night in her own room and joins us in her twin bed at some point…I can’t count how many times I’ve laid half awake patting her back praying I could roll over soon and go back to sleep. I feel your pain. Is this consolation? She’s 23mos and cutting her last 2 teeth, and the bad nights are getting fewer and farther between, the end is in sight. :0.
You are so lucky to live near such wonderful beaches. Looks like a blast!
Hope you don’t think I’m a freak, but that little Nella is just so darn cute (they both are). This may become a reoccurring quote when I leave comments here but I just can’t help it…”I just want to squeeze her!” Big ‘ol hug!! 🙂
What a wonderful trip. Your pictures are amazing! The girls look like they had a blast.
stop with all the beachy pictures. i so want to go to the beach this summer! but not a minnesota lakeweeds and rocks beach … a sandy seashelly beach.
it would be much better for me if you would just post pictures of scorched grasses or something.
thanks.
😉
I can SMELL the ocean, the slight mildew from the well-used (but poorly maintained) furniture, the seafood dinners wafting over the beach, the exhaust form the low-flying airplanes flying “EAT AT RICK’S!” banners over sunning bodies…ahh, the beach vacations from my childhood…I WANT THAT FOR MY KIDS! I am getting on it. Always putting it off because it is just so much work with the kids so young…TOO BAD! GET THERE!!!
Everything with kids is a lot of work…and SO worth it!
Wow! That last pic… Amazing!
Wow, you’re description of a sleepless night with Nella brought me back to MANY I had with my girls; haven’t had one in a while, it’s easy to forget what it’s like! So glad you had a good day despite the lack of sleep! Oh, and I love Nella’s high pigtails, I’ll have to try that with my own wispy blond haired baby girl!
Love love love Ft. Myers beach. That is where I grew up so this post stirs up lots of childhood memories. Thanks so much for sharing!
Your summer sounds and looks wonderful…. we have yet to have real summer weather but who knows. Today may finally be the day…
I am taking a trip to Florida at the end of July with my little one (who will be almost 3 months by then) and I am so worried about the heat, the plane ride etc. But the promises of places like Ft. Meyers beach, St. Pete’s Beach, Treasure Island make it all worthwhile. I am so excited to start to get her out into the community. As much as I’d like to keep her locked away from the world and the mean people that inhabit it, I’m letting all my insecurities go. Her extra chromosome just makes her extra loveable.
-Amanda
My only little girls birthday is in August – I think we will be getting that spa kit, what a great idea!
Aaahhh! Thank you for taking me to Ft. Myers Beach this morning! I SO need a shot! It will always have a special place in my ever-lengthening memory. Love that Nella ate the cucumbers, and I’m seriously considering if I might be the beach ice cream man’s newest competitor!
Kelle, I´m a still reader from germany since a year and today I really have to say: you made my day! Love the music, your pic´s and Ft. Myers Beach. I was there in february and we also discovered the Heavenly Biscuit. I loved it! And I really love you blog. Your kids are adorable. Go on!
XOXO, Nadine
What an adorable post…looks like the perfect day. I was “that” mom last night too…taking our boys to dinner while my husband was golfing and then trucking everything down to our local concert series to meet another mom and kids. I had those “oh poor her…she looks like she could use some help” looks…even though I felt like I had it under control :). What a wonderful way for you all to spend the day.

Ooooh, a care package kit, what a great idea for my girl going off to a week of church camp by herself this year!!
Sitting, happy- listening to the music playing here with this post- in my NEW space which is feeling very coooooooooooooooooool to me.
I honeymooned in Marco Island and my dining room has just been switched into my craft studio for my anniversary present.
This summer is trying to get meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee back & enjoying my husband. Would love some help doing that.
YOUR PICS ARE FABULOUS. XO
LOVE, love the new header. It’s soooooooooooooooo uber cute.
Lainey is such a little Ham! And Nella, cannot get over her sweetness. I’ve been a follower for a little over a year now and still cannot get enough of your little family outtings!
Ha ha the momma pat. Yup and when it’s done u just hope u don’t trip on some noisy toy or worse yet- stub your toe and try like hell not to curse louder than a whisper

This post brought tears to my eyes. Since I was little my dad has sent us down to Ft. Myers Beach (from Wisconsin) with my mom for vacation, but was always a trooper who stayed at home so he could work to fund the trip. For the first time in 25 years he will take a legit family vacation with us, all because his first little grandbaby girl will be along. Pregnancy hormones causing the crying, maybe. Tears of excitement, you bet! 🙂
When I saw the spa pictures it made me smile and laugh out loud! Just too cute! Got to love the fun moments young children bring into our lives.
My family vacations in the Ft. Myers area almost every year! We LOVE Heavenly biscuit!! You are absolutely my favorite blogger. I love all your pictures and most of all that you simply live life to the fullest. Thanks so much for being such an inspiration!
Haven’t visited your page in awhile. The girls are getting bigger and more beautiful by the day. Your daycation looked like a fun trip and LOVED the camp care package idea. Don’t have young ones of my own, but will pass on the linky to some friends that have little girls who would love the spa package. Many hugz and many more blessings to your lovely family. LOVE the pics
I just love your photos. The green eyed monster always comes out of me when I read your blog.
I want to take photos of my kids that are as beautiful as yours! Sadly, I just can’t figure it out even with a fancy camera and lens 🙁 Still practicing though.
Those beach pictures where they are in the water are fabulous! My parents are stopping by Ft. Meyers this summer on their way to visit my sister. It looks like a very fun stop!
We’ve vacationed at FMB! Fun times, most memorable moment for me on that vacation…relaxing on the beach while a bird flew overhead and poops on my shoulder. Good times.
I can totally relate to the back pattin’ baby back to sleep thing. I SO hope you can catch a nap or two this weekend. Maybe Brett needs some alone time with the girls while the mama sleeps??
And you are just the coolest mama ever! Spa day, how fun!!
XOXO,
Angie from Ohio
This post was so near and dear to my heart! We used to live in between Bonita and Ft Myers. Every now and then life would land us in Ft Myers Beach. Most of the time I would swear I was never going back (mostly due to the traffic:) However, your post made me wish I was there! You described it perfectly and made me feel like I was there!
I love all of your posts, but I have to say that my favorites are the ones about your Florida life. Glad you took the trip up there…made me feel like home.
Thanks for the back patting tip. I can never successfully get away without my LO noticing. Love the pics of Lainey feeding Nella!
Great post! I love that first pic of Nella with the pigtails…so stinkin’ cute!
You’ve just given me the next destination for a family vacay…Fort Myers Beach looks like a paradise!
perfection…the beach. the spa. just perfection!
i LOVE ALL THESE PICTURES !!!! SOOO SWeet
Your summer pictures make me happy! Such beautiful girls!
Love your daily adventures…I thought about dragging my 3 kiddos to a farmers market last night…by myself but I decided to keep my sanity! We did go to Target though and out for a burger and fries so it was a pretty good Friday! Can’t wait to have a spa day with my little girl…having fun with her after 2 boys…so we are knee deep in hair bows…anything pink…leg warmers and tights!! Have a great weekend!
Please tell Lainey that her toes are the coolest I have ever seen:) Good job on your adventure momma, looks like it was a fun fun day!! Happy weekend beautiful friend!Xo
What a fun day! We spend our summer weekends in the backyard or on the mountain here.
I just came across your blog a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it.
Ironic timing…
I just painted my girls nails this morning (although admittedly, your spa treatment was a tad more elaborate than ours! lol) and as I sat here reading this my girls are enjoying some toast in their home made fort (a baby gate in the shape of a U with a blanket thrown over it).
Happy summer! (Also, I’m pretty sure I’ve been convinced that I need to put “visit a beach in Florida” on my bucket list…)
Fun and relaxing day you had!
I enjoyed your beautiful pictures
love the beach pictures! all 3 of you have super cute swim suits. i wish we had a beach close enough to drive to for the day! i love the spa day idea- so precious.
The beach pictures are so sweet. What a fun daycation.
Oh goodness looks like you had so much fun!! I love lainey’s oatmeal mask, adorable.
Starting at 2 last night I was up every 20 minutes or so. I too think she must be teething. At 4 she came in to bed with me and it was almost like being next to her mama instantly calmed her down….so as hard of a night as it was, it was totally worth it.
Happy weekending Kelle, thanks for sharing your blog with so many of us!!!
I grew up going to those beaches! It’s so cool to see them from your kids’ POV. Great post.
i love love love the pic of nella eating the cucumber! hey, she’s getting the spa experience on the inside too!

And top it off with a Spa Day!!
That’s what I’m talkin’ about!

I’m longing for an icecream bike and a beach now! love it!

this post put me in a light hearted mood… perfect timing on a Saturday morning.
THAT ICE CREAM CART COOLEST THING EVER..OO AND THE PICS OF NELLAS’ TEENY TINY BUM MADE ME GIGGLE!
I LOVE THE SPA PICS!! HOW FUN MAKING MEMORIES:)
Nella is hte best little beach baby!! how do you get her to sit still to make the pig tails?? and how do they stay in???
And i have learned to always always accept help from kind strangers. teh other day while juggeling my 3 kids, a kind young guy carried our stack of 10 library books out to my car for me. i gladly accepted his help. made my walk to the car easier and teh kids got a lesson on doing nice things for others.
xoxo,
Bug & Ruby’s Gram!
Love this as always…my first thought when you said lots of houses for sale down by the beach was “hmm I wonder if I could move down there” ahh dreams…
What kind of carrier are you using to hold Miss Nella in that window picture?!!? Thanks!
These are some beautiful pictures! Love the ones of you & Nella at the beach! Too cute!! & i love your header!
i absolutely love this post! amazing photos, as always…you are so inspirational to us wannabe photographers! cheers!
LOVE YOUR PICTURES!! You are so inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing!! Love <3
It doesn’t take much imagination on my part to visualize what you guys looked like heading to the beach. In April, my mom, sister and her 13 month twin girls, my sister’s friend and her 10 month old son, and my 2 year old son and myself all headed to Gulf Shores Beach in Alabama. We stayed across the street, and each day, we lugged 4 babies and all of our gear out to spend whatever length of time we had before the sun got to hot or the babies tired of the sand and sea. I’m sure we were a sight, and had we had any offers of help, I think we may have taken it! I love the photos, and wish I was there, but alas, last April’s visit will probably be my only trek to the beach for awhile.
this looks so fun! hope you get some rest. love the pics!
I love Fort Myers! My favorite Aunt and Uncle live there with there with my four cousins. It was the first destination I visited by myself when I was graduating from high school.
ive worked as a camp counselor before – fun idea! 🙂
can’t.get.over.the.baby.bum.cheeks.
Those packages are awesome!! I love the bubble gum snow cone, I must find one of those myself!! 🙂
Wow. Cool care packages. Never knew there was such a thing. Technology. Opens the world!
So about that schlepping of stuff and children. I have 5 seven and under. I call it herding. That’s what I feel like. BUt what’s up with the “Do you need help? No thanx” thing we do? I wrote a post about it. We moms seriously just need to stop that. 😀 Looks like a fun adventure, and thanks for saying “it’s not easy.”
http://allmymonkeys.blogspot.com/2011/05/thank-you-for-yesterday.html
who is that GORGEOUS Nana Kate???? I want to be her when I grow up!
I had to almost laugh out loud at how you described patting a child back to sleep. I can totally relate with patting lighter and lighter until it’s barely a touch on their backs. And I’ve even resorted to crawling out of their room so they can see me leave! haha! Oh what moms do…
Glad you had a great day out, despite lack of sleep. That was me yesterday… :/
Awesome post, Kelle! I am an avid follower of your blog (obsessively checking daily for a new post:) and have never once wished that I lived in Florida…until this post. I live in Western PA and am a four seasons kinda gal, in fact fall is my favorite season, closely followed by winter. But as you were describing Fort Meyers and I was looking at your AWESOME photos (love all of them, but the ice cream cart takes the cake:) I suddenly found myself wishing that I had the ability to have a beach so darn close to my house! But to be truthful, I lost interest once again when you described the heat burning your feet through your sandals! Ouch!! Oh well, I will just continue to live vicariously through your fabulous blog! As always, thanks so much for giving us a peek into your life! You are truly inspiring!
I’m lovin’ the kid-friendly spa idea…I’m going to have to try that with my Paigey – maybe a special treat before she starts school! As always, thanks for sharing!
this makes me want to plan a trip to florida just for the beaches!! we are getting nothing but rain here in Seattle :0
We’re sending our oldest (almost 9) to camp for the first time this summer (gulp!) She would LOVE a camp care package! Great idea!
I love how you make everything an “event.” You are a professional Memory-maker. I love it. Also, Ft. Myers Beach is where I spent every Spring Break from 7th-11th grade. Right in front of the OutRigger is where I had my first kiss in 8th grade! Your post brought back wonderful memories! Thank you!
Today is definitely a beach day. Wish there was one close by 🙂 Camp care packages are a great idea too! Whenever I see this adorable friend of Lainey’s, I can’t help think she looks like a little Jennifer Aniston (whom I love!) xx
Well what adventures you are having!
Hope Nella is feeling and sleeping better. Ah that hand pat removal, know it well! She certainly looks good in the picture on the stairs with her big friend, looks like she is pining her into the corner by her stare!
Beach day looks perfect, as to the spa day!
Love the ice cream cart. Oh, the beach, what summer adventures you have! Love the Spa package. KC* or KELLE, just wondering – maybe I have just not been looking at the right time, but I have missed seeing your comments, KC. ??? Well, have a great weekend! Love from the Blog Mama~
Aw, yay for the Tarpon Springs shout out 🙂 I’m currently in Boston, but originally from Tarpon (and took a senior trip to Fort Myers)! Seeing all the Gulf Coast pics makes home feel a little closer.
Nella’s leg warmers are too cute!
Yea for summer!! Must…go….to…..a….beach….soon!
-Abby in Kansas
love love love the bare bottomed pictures with your yellow retro suit!
Nakey Nella bottom!! So sweet!!! Babies are the best.
Lainey’s swimsuit is so cute! And love the home spa idea. I SO need a girl next.
aw, heavenly biscuit. pure sinful yumminess in your mouth. going there is a treat for sure…reminds me of a dear friend that passed away last year & it was one of her fave places to go to. glad to hear you enjoyed it.
and love, love, love the kid version of a spa day 🙂 how delightful.
I couldn’t agree more the beach is totally worth anything you have to go through to get there. I lived in LA for a number of year…between the usual one hour plus drive to get there (Highway 1 traffic is always crazy) and the toting of all the kid stuff…..it was completely worth it when you got to sit and enjoy the beauty of the sea!!
Kelle your pictures are always so gorgeous! And I love love love Nella’s little pig tails, they are so darling.
We LOVE the ice cream man. In our neighborhood in Austin, TX, where it’s been over 100 degrees almost daily for more than a month already, one of our favorite rituals is the 3 p.m. visit by the ice cream man. He has his freezer on his bike, too, and he rides dutifully in the scorching heat through his route, which happens to bring him up our street at almost exactly 3 p.m. each day. My girls will spend every dollar they have, and on they days they don’t have any, he’ll let them get an ice cream anyway and collect from me on his next visit. THAT is service:)
I love your retro swimsuit, but Lainey’s black(or navy) and white polka dot, retro vibe swimsuit is so freakin’ adorable. Do you remember where you got it??
Love this post! Your pictures of the beach are everything I long for summer in MN to be. It’s 60 and raining here today 🙁 Love Nella’s pigtails, Lainey’s suit and your spa day! Thanks for sharing!
Those pictures at Fort Myers Beach are incredible. Every time I click over to your blog, I’m encouraged by your pictures & words. 🙂
Ft. Myers beach looks absolutely breath-taking. Would love to take a day trip there! Your really help us to know how to celebrate summer and I would love to win a camp package, I think my son and I would have a blast with one. Thanks so much for brightening my day and giving me ideas of things to do with my kiddo.
Yes! Yes! Yes!! It is so difficult to do fun things with your kids, but SOOOOO worth every toothy smile! :0)
Happy Summer!
undeniably worth it….nuff said. xo
I just LOVE reading your posts! You make a wonderful life for you and your girls. They are beautiful. I so enjoy looking at your photos and reading your writing.
Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
-FringeGirl
ahhh… love the beach photos! I have 5 girls (ages 2-9) w/another on the way so I totally understand the how getting there can be a chore, but we have so much fun once we’re there 🙂
I love my mountains, but when I see your pics, there is something magical about the beach. It looks like a wonderful place to raise a family.
I’m so loving this beach! The shot of the girls running with the pink tubes is awesome and you in the yellow suit holding the nakey nella? Lol Adorable!
Looks like you girls made good use out of that camp pkg. What a creative idea!!
I’m heading your way!:D (I live in Oklahoma) If you could stop by Laguna Beach…we might actually get to see each other! I’m going to a church camp with my youth group. I’m excited/nervous. But it’s my second year going so…:)
Looks like a day full of bliss! Beach and spa day? Awesome!
I can only hope I have a family and a life like yours one day. Until then, I’ll just enjoy reading about yours 🙂
Finally following the link over to Popina. Trying to restrain myself.
PS I don’t mean to cause a crisis of any kind, but I’m pretty sure those aren’t toddlers. Look like preschoolers to me!
Damn, I’m going to have to avoid your blog in the summer. Every time I see one of those careless days at the beach it makes me homesick for Jacksonville. BTW, Love Nella’s little pigtails, and naked baby bottoms are one of my favorite things :>
Toddler and Dad are in Seattle for the weekend, so I dragged my preggo butt for some pampering yesterday, including spa massage and pedicure. No cucumbers though that gives me an idea for the next 2 days before they come back :>
I love the Reflection in the Window picture. I’m always impressed with the way moms seem to effortlessly carry a baby (especially in those awkward infant carseats), a 74 pound diaper bag, and whatever other paraphernalia they may be required to tote. I call in the reinforcements (aka my husband) when I’ve got more than four bags of groceries to lug into the house! I don’t know how I’ll ever be strong enough to be a mama! Lainey’s pedicure is darling, too. Ya gotta love kids’ and babies’ macaroni toe (aka the pinky toe). So my favorite!
We so hope to make it to the beach this summer too! We’ll be going camping soon for sure – heck, I’m pushing for a camping trip to the beach!
Oh those little toes are glorious!
That’s probably the hottest ice cream bike guy I’ve ever seen!!
And I’m lovin’ Nella’s pigtails!!
I LOVE your new header! Your dog cracks me up! He/she is never looking at the camera. Busy, but so still. Adorable!
Love the photos of Lainey feeding Nella! They are awesome!
It is so true that toting all the necessities for babies and toddlers is taxing, but as you said totally worth it.
The Spa Package looks like it was great and brought some wonderful memories. 🙂
That is one amazing daycation! I want to go to the beach right now!!!!
OK, I’m hoping to win not for my campers…but for my oldest girl, who at 19 will be heading off to college after spending a year working in an orphanage in Uganda. I think that a spa in a box would be a great way to make friends in the dorm, don’t you??
Lainey in the mask and cucumber eyes- cutest thing ever! I will have to try that w/my little soon. Love Nella’s piggy tails- adorable! Wishing we were on the beach w/the ice cream bike instead of scorching in the AZ sun- 110 degrees today!!!! But hey we ventured out to the circus today, that was fun! My girl’s first time… when it ended and the lights came on she cried “more, more”. Amazed she liked it so much at 2 years old! Love the blog Kelle.
Oh Kelle, I too have had those long all-nighters. They are rough! Chloe still has them from time to time (cough, cough…like last week). Crossing my fingers with you that you get more rest tonight!
Just seeing the pictures of the Florida beaches brings back so many memories of my childhood days spent there. We’d go to Daytona Beach almost every weekend. I remember going to Fort Meyers as well. My favorite part, besides the obvious coastal fun, was our tradition of getting McDonald’s ice cream cones on the way home. Oh those were the days!
I adore the pictures of Lainey with her oatmeal spa mask! It looks like she had a blast! Too cute!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! 🙂
~ Katie
Loving your entries and admiring your photography. Thank you for storytelling 🙂 Glad you went on a beautifully hectic beach trip.
What a fun day trip! Hope Nella slept for you last night!
Oh how I love me some Fort Myers beach! And the Heavenly Biscuit is indeed heavenly. LOVE that place! You have now convinced me to convince my husband to take the 3 hour drive over to the beach! Hope you guys had a wonderful time! Hope Nella sleeps better tonight!
I am spending the Fourth of July on Ft Myers Beach, in a house about 5 down from the pier. We have done it of several years and it the highlight of our summer!!!
such wonderful photos in this post, kelle! wow. are they straight from your camera? what a beautiful, fun day with your girls!
LOVED the baby bottom pics at the beach. the spa (cucumbers on the eyes) pics CRACKED me up!
I have four boys, no girls….that almost made me want a girl. almost.
i’m so done! 🙂
You make ordinary seem magical, that is why I follow you:)
Hey Queen, I hear ya on that! I have three boys and I’m done too! 🙂
Kelle – thanks so much for sharing the camp care package site – I love it!! Gonna stick that in my back pocket for when my boys are old enough for overnight camp!
And the back pat thing – what deja vu!!! I have done the exact same thing so many times before, it was like rewinding a tape when I read your words. Hope that little Nella lets you slumber tonight!
Ha! Thank you for perfectly narrating how every outing is for me;) I have twin 3 year olds and a 7 month old and sometimes I end up at the mall/park/museum and think, “Wow, that was probably not pretty for anyone who saw me corraling kids/rocking the baby/balancing a bag, cooler and two tricycles!” Last week I must have looked like a circus when the baby was asleep in the stroller, big brother was sitting on the foot rest because his feet hurt and I toted big sister on my shoulders since we had to park 10 blocks from the park. But we do it and we love it!
Wow! Looks like you guys had a blast!!! Those sno-cones are awesome!
Wanted to let everyone know about a new parent guide to down syndrome we are giving away for free on our site if any one would like to check it out! It’s totally free!
Hope all is well!

OK…I am lovin’ that cute little bare bottom!!!
Love the photos…and Lainey’s socks…and Nella’s “socks” too! Sad, I can’t dress two boys this cute!
Oh…I know all about “the decision to finally withdraw my hand from the back of a fussy/sleeping baby!” Will hope tonight is much better!
blessings,
Oh my! I’m sure I’ve been to that shop selling all the starfish. My grandparents lived on Pine Island, my aunt and uncle in Fort Myers, and we’d drive down from Michigan to visit every year. I have great memories of those souvenir shops – just buckets every of all kinds of random stuff – absolutely fascinating for a child!
Hope sleep is going better….good job ‘getting up and getting going’ despite the rough night. As a new mom who’s struggled to adjust to that sleep-deprived feeling, I take my hat off to you!
I love this…. and believe that ANYTHING done outside the house with a toddler and baby is feat of human endurance.
Love your blog so much. I can identify with so much of it, especially the desire to be a ballerina. Complete with the borrowed pointe shoes which I may or may not have jammed on my own feet in my old basement apartment. 🙂
By the way, I love the girl’s wardrobe 🙂 adorable 🙂
I love the photo of Lainey’s painted toes. The way her second toe on her right foot overlaps the third just makes me smile!
Your photos make me want to live near a beach and somewhere sunny.. I guess I’ll just have to make do with good old grey England!
Loving Nella’s pigtales! x
Girl! I can smell the Coppertone and the ocean all the way from Washington State! Yall are rockin’ Summer!
I just love your outfits and eye for the everyday beauty! I’m trying to be the Kelle Hampton of Kansa (yah right…) so if you ever get a chance to pop over and give me any photog tips on my blog, I would love it!
Celebrating summer here…a little hard, seeing as it’s been unusually cool lately! That care package? To die for!
You rock, Kelle! 😀
I read this post yesterday morning while my daughter was playing in the living room. As soon as she heard music start it was on! Since then I just singing “in the summertime” while humming the rest and my girl busts out her moves! I may have temporarily replaced istsy bitsy spider…and for that I owe you!
***UNBELIEVABLE timing. I JUST (as in minutes before turning on my computer) tied up a care package for my sweet boy to open at camp!!! I will definitely remember this company for next year! I am curious to see what they would package up for a boy….girls seem so much easier 🙂
***Can’t get enough of Nella’s pig tails! I had to take a double take at the first pic of them….thought it was Lainey!
***Your vintage looking photos are so cool! And you are soooo darn cute in that yellow suit and flower adorned hair 🙂
***And does your diaper bag slash purse that weighs 50 lbs. ever fall off your shoulder as you bend over to pick that random something up that inevitably falls out EVERY time you’re trying to get somewhere, only to whack your kid in the head? Yep, you described our outings perfectly.
Much Summer love to you,
Kelly
For the past year or so my Sunday morning routine has been to read your blog from the past week. My kids, Cohen (3) and Abe (20 months) snuggle next to me as I read and they look at the pictures or get up and dance to the music. This morning we got to share the love with our newest addition, baby sister Miss Violet. This week my faves are being able to relate to mom-as-luggage-rack at the beach and looking forward to the mom/daughter dates I’ll get to have soon enough with my own munchkin. That bond that your girls share, the indescribable one, my boys have that too and it’s probably one of the best things in the world to witness.
Till next week,
Hayley
Where the sand isn’t nearly as beautiful, CA
I wanted to say thanks for the prior code for the swimsuit — I totally scored one in red and LOVE it! I have never found a suit that I loved and that in return, loved my curves!!
Thanks again!
what a fun day..wish I was there..my nieces would love this giveaway thanks..have a great weekend.
Kelle-
I love the picture with Nana Kate. The white everywhere, the laughter, the point of view- it’s beautiful. I’m sure Nana Kate would love a framed copy. It’s moments like those you don’t forget.
Funny your paragraph about being up all night with a teether…my post 2 days prior to this one has almost the exact same paragraph- rocking and praying included 😉
Thanks for inspiring me with my photography and showing us your beautiful moments.
-W.
Loved all the pics! You can even make a souvenir shop look like a slice of heaven with your cool camera angles and unique shots! Love that about you! Sure hope you get some rest!
Your photos in direct, full sunlight always look great – exposed well, no harsh shadows on faces, no blown-out backgrounds….how do you do it?? Please share a tutorial for shooting in all that beautiful direct Florida sunshine!!
Thanks! 😉
Random here, and I don’t expect an answer, though if you have the time that’d be amazing!
We vacation in Ft Myers Beach yearly and have yet to find that “OMG I can’t wait to eat there again!” restaurant. There was one, maybe on Sanibel? But it has since changed owners and it’s just not the same.
I would be forever grateful for any local-ish (oh, 30 minutes or so) restaurant recommendations for the area. My family would be thankful too!
I was looking forward to weekending, too, until I let my boys get burned today. Wah, wah, wah, evil ending to an otherwise good weekend. Love your blog. Thank you for writing and sharing.
My older brother, sister in law,and nieces live in Ft Myers!! I remember vacationing there as a kid, and it still looks the same!! Ahhh nostalgia…….
Ha ha could nella’s pigtails get any cuter!
Kelle, I JUST sent Ciarra off to camp for the first time ever (sleepover camp) I am so sa, I miss her terribly and its only been 2 hours. I was reading blogs to take my mind off this lol. THANKS A LOT!! She goes back for 2 more weeks in July. Hope we can win. nella is sure growing fast. Michelle
PS Tomorrow is Ciarra’s 13th Birthday!!
We, too, celebrated summer this weekend. Only in a very midwestern – no ocean nearby kind of way :). Most of us kids (4 out of 6) and our kids met up with our parents in the middle of Western Kansas and stayed in two little cabins for two days, exploring rocks carved by early settlers, water parks, all the good stuff. Happy Summer!
I LOOOVVVEEEE Ft Myers beach!!!! My recently moved back up north after living in Ft Myers for 15 years…Though I love having him in the same state, it stinks not have a go to place in Fla…We have tons of beaches but the ones in Fla are so beautiful…I always get so jealous of you beach pics…
Sorry about Nella’s rough night. I totally know what you mean about the back rubbing and trying to figure out when you can leave. I usually lean on the side of the crib and about fall asleep.. Oops. We’re teething here too. Pre-molars I think. Fun times and LOTS of slobber.
You’re daycation looks awesome! In one day I could get to St. Louis or Branson. Just not the same as Ft. Myers. We’re counting down to our Hilton Head Island, SC vacation!
Have a great week!! I love those packages – definitely need to check that site out:0)
I love that every mom is different but we each have similar techniques…def.instinctual 🙂 Enjoy summer!
love from Michigan!
Florida looks HEAVENLY! Wish I was there:)
You make going out in the summer heat so inviting. But, I live in the same climate just opposite the Gulf Of Mexico in Texas…. And dahlin’ I am just fine in my AC living vicariously through you! LOL But, we will venture out down south of us to Corpus Christi and Padre Island. That should be fun!
I’ll pull my big girl panties up and suck the marrow out of it all and have a great time, sweat and all!
AH, you should have a photo contest for your readers like show your best vacation spots shots! That would be fun to see from many of your readers.
Love the pics as always and the stories that drift along.
:o)
Looks like a fab day trip. I ache to be at a beach like that- I can almost feel the warmth of the sun and the smell of the sea. Will have to console myself with cold winter days spent inside snuggled up waiting for the Australian summer to arrive.
I was maybe a bit too excited when I saw the photos of Lainey feeding Nella – Kelle Hampton uses store-bought baby food too! Now I’m not feeling as guilty as I have been. We had to move out for 5 days over a week ago and I’m still not back on top of making enough baby food so it’s been quite a bit of the store bought stuff lately.
Oh, Wow. We’re in Oregon and I’m absolutely envious of your beach-side bliss!!! Thanks for the post!
I love the picture of Lainey feeding Nella! Such a good big sister. As for trecking tons of items to the beach, looking completely crazy, and it being 100% worth it…that summarizes my childhood and will soon summarize my adulthood! It puts a smile on my face!
That spa kit is perfect for my little sister!!! Birthday present – check!
Just love everything about this summery post, Kelle! From Nella’s bare bum to her super cute pink shoes (in the 4th picture) to Lainey’s oatmeal and cucumber face. And that beach ice cream contraption… SO STINKING FABULOUS! 🙂 I’m a little late commenting, but since today’s Monday… I’m thinking my favorite author might release another favorite post today/tonight and I’ll comment a little sooner next time! Hope you had a great weekend! 🙂 <3 Mrs. Buckingham
New to your blog! looks like you had an awesome vacation! Would love for you to stop by mine! http://www.pktaswegrow.com
Those camp care package are such a good idea! And I love Nella’s bathing suit in this post. And her ponytails 🙂
Love the post. Love the summer feel to it. We always spend at least one weekend of the summer in Destin/Fort Walton Beach area. Can’t wait for our trip this year.
I am so loving Nella’s hair! PRECIOUS!!! I have boys and I can’t really do that to their hair! (although, my youngest has the pretty blond, curly long hair that I swear he would make a pretty girl!)
what a lovely trip- it sure looks like your daughters had a blast, and you really did capture the moments beautifully.

Love the big oatmeal mask grin! Looks like an awesome day.
Inspired me to come up with a really cool 4th of July pedicure for my little one.
Have a happy week!
Yay Summer!!! Quick question whenever you get around to reading this…in the reflection store front photo, you are carrying Nella in a sling. Do you mind sharing what kind/brand/type? I have the Bjorn, which is nice, but my sweet girl is not a fan. She’s 6months and only 15 lbs, so think a sling would be great! I tried the Moby wrap and well, let’s just say, it didn’t work out for us. 🙂 Thank you! E
Canon ??? with a 50mm 1.4 or 1.2 ??? Please do share!
I’m loving the eSWAK site! I’m going to create something for my daughter as she starts college. Maybe the journal package!
Why oh why don’t we live in Florida… This MN weather is a major bummer.
Love it! We did spa night we my little one and her friends this weekend and it was so fun.. I walked away with orange fingernails and blue toenails.. 😛 So much fun!
We vacation to Ft. Myers every year. Frozen lemonade from that cart is as good as it gets!! It is our favorite getaway!! The little shops at times square are the best!!
I love the way you can make the simplest things seem so beautiful!
Can you tell me what type of sling you have Nella in? In the reflected picture?
Love, love, love Nella’s piggy’s!!
Smiling reading the description of sleeping over the railing of the crib patting her back less and less… I have so been there!
I just adore Ft. Myers Beach. Spent a week there a few years back and have been anxiously waiting until I can go back.
Oh, please tell me where I can get those adorable leg warmers!!
Awesome Awesome times, looks like you all have had a ball..
Just a quick question Kelle, when doing a photo wall, what kind of rules should I follow eg, should the frames be the same colour?
Look forward to hearing a reply Thanks
Kim from far away in Perth, Western Australia
I usually hate heat and humidity but you make me want to live in Florida SO BAD!!
Love the pics as always. 🙂
Where did you get your girls cute leggins?
Looks like a super fun summer celebration!!! I hope that I win the SWAK contest, how fun!!!
beautiful pics of your girls! love the fun toenail polish!! will try to watch the show on BYU channel…(I went to BYU!)
Love the ice cream truck! And my oldest is going to camp this year for the first time. I’m off to check out eSWAK now!
I hope I win! I am a camp counselor at a camp in massachusetts that serves underprivileged at risk youth from Boston (www.crossroads4kids.org) These kids don’t come from families that are able to send them care packages at camp, so I know I could put that $200 dollars to good use for my campers!
Always heard lots about Fort Myyers Beach from my Gran and Grandad who spent six months of every year thhere, never actually saw too many photo’s, looks lovely though and now I can place their memories.
As always, you create such lovely memories for your beautiful girls, always bring a smile to my face. X
Such a great idea! Love that you were at a beach so near me. Maybe I will run into ya’ll some day. 🙂
Those care packages look like fun. I need to go to camp so someone can send me one.
ok now I am officially homesick.. I lived in the Ft Myers area for several years when I was little.. I still miss the beaches!!
Kelle, I really love your blog but the naked pictures of Nella worry me. You know that there are people who get off on pictures like that, right? I was sexually abused as a child and the thought of men like that looking at pictures of your beautiful girls make me feel sick. Even if you don’t publish this post, please think about this. Keep pictures like that for your family album alone. I’m sure people would love your blog just as much without the bare bum shots.
