Be Your Tee!

September 16, 2013 By Kelle

It’s gray and hazy outside, and I’m running through a list of Monday mantras to reignite this week’s enthusiasm. It helps that there’s a boy lying on the bed next to me, fake coughing to get my attention, and when I give it to him, he kicks and smiles and his eyes squint into happy half moons. We’re enjoying a cozy work day.

I’m working to get ahead and get ready for our trip next week to San Diego (Everybody Plays!), so I’ll share more later. But I’m really excited to help launch the Be Your Tee campaign today, a 2-week fundraising effort for the NDSS.

The mission of this campaign is to offer positive message tees for every kid. Regardless of our special needs, all parents share the desire to see their child soar.

I designed this tee for the Be Your Tee campaign, and at least $5 of every shirt sale goes to the NDSS whose mission is to promote the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome (Teespring pays NDSS directly after campaign is completed).

 photo print9_zps10700137.jpg

The “Teach Me to Soar” shirt is available in onesies, toddler and youth sizes and offered in a variety of colors.

Your child can rock this shirt with jeans, shorts, layered over long sleeve shirts for fall and winter, and it’s only $15.

Our entire clan sported theirs in style the other night.

It’s a twofer–your kid looks cool AND tells the world, “Have confidence in me.”

 photo print22_zps2c0f06c3.jpg

The onesies are off the hook.

 photo print72_zps62c497cd.jpg

And it looks good with stripes…for the WIN.

 photo print8_zpsa5993a1d.jpg

These shirts are available for a limited two weeks. Share any Be Your Tee love (including photos of your kids in the shirts when you receive them!) on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #BeYourTee and tag @ndss @teespring and myself (@KelleHampton on Twitter, @etst on Instagram).

Helping EVERY child Soar…a perfect Monday mantra.

Hope the start of your week is grand!

    @CeCe, you’d probably want a toddler 4T. The youth small is a 6-8 (the red one in the pictures is a youth small)

    Hi Kelle,
    I don’t understand. It looks like we’ll only get the shirt if there are enough sales? And you were able to set the price and the check for the profit will go directly to you (I assume you’ll then forward to NDSS but what is the gaurantee)? I feel like the information given by you and the info given by teespring are very conflicting and would like some sort of explanation before I consider ordering please?

    @Corie,

    I’m only involved in volunteering to design and promote this. Teespring works directly with the NDSS and pays them $5 for every shirt (or more if they sell beyond their goal). I imagine they will receive one check once all the orders are in. NDSS set an attainable goal using a crowd funding platform, but in this case all shirts are guaranteed. You will get your shirt and at least $5 of that shirt will go directly to the NDSS.

    I would love to get these for my “big” kids. My 14 yr old with DS would love this, and I know his sister would rock one with him. She is younger but both the same height, maybe next year. Bummer!

    You and your blog are such bright spots. How do you handle the really miserable people who stop by solely for the purpose of being nasty? I recognize and appreciate the extraordinarily wonderful people who regularly visit but the nasty ones are so toxic.

    @Blossom,

    Actually more than $5 goes to the NDSS, especially now that the goal has been met. The rest of the $15all goes to Teespring, the awesome company who prints these and makes it possible for people to crowd fund for printed t-shirts.

    Hi there. Thanks for being, in your own way, and advocate for special needs kids. I think many of us come to this place of wanting to help by being touched personally. For me, it’s not Down Syndrome I’m passionate about people being compassionate and aware of, but some of the more invisible special needs, like autism or ADD, where the parents often don’t even have that their child looks “atypical” and that, it seems, sometimes is harder, if that makes sense. They are blamed and asked “What’s wrong with your kid?” We all can stand to go first toward compassion, know what I mean?
